  1. Hey guys, Thought you might find this interesting: Price to import these HPC coated from states is $475. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Datsun-280Z-240Z-N42-P90-E88-Ceramic-Coated-Header-NEW-/400212390005?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d2e847075 Price to buy similar headers and have them coated here is $300 for headers and $280 (cheapest quote) for HPC coating so $580. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Nissan-Datsun-240Z-260Z-6cyl-Petrol-Extractors-Header-/260773295282?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cb74cb4b2 I know the two piece american one's are gonna need some kind of clamp, which won't look as good as a seamless design, but I can reduce shipping on the American ones by about $75 if I buy a lot of items, meaning it's $180 cheaper to buy from US than AUS at the cost of a couple little clamps on the exhaust! Thoughts? Steve
  2. Hey Shaun and Greg thanks for the tips. I've bought the one off ebay. Is there a place that sells the conversion plugs to use the internally regulated item on an L26? Or do I simply make them?
  3. Thanks peter. So you took it to them and they reco'd it for $100?
  4. This is what I have on my 260 2 seater. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/SE03/31-1032
  5. Thanks scoota. How much for the reco'd one? Also how much do you want for postage? Has it been used much since the reco?
  6. Hey guys Sorry for my absence lately. I am checking in now and again but like many others before me have let the zed fall by the wayside after getting a new job. I'm chasing a good alternator that i can bolt onto my L26, and then onto my L28 when i get around to putting it in. Anyone got one? Cheers, Steve
  7. I could probably put it more diplomatically, but Id say the same as Craig in the end. Us mods have to spend a fair bit of time removing advertising of all sorts from the site (mostly spam) If we don't have strict criteria then anyone could advertise and the value of the recommended businesses section would be nil. The last thing we want are businesses who make accounts here to advertise their products without supporting the site in some way. Also this won't rally many people here to your cause:
  8. I can also vouch for Shaun. Now I wonder what other project you've got on your mind if you want to sell these two.
  9. Haha, glad you found it helpful. Congrats on owning one REV ZED!
  10. So welcome back after 3 years... You left off a price and a link to your ebay ad. These are $1800 and http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Datsun-240Z-Fairlady-European-Tail-lights-NEW-OLD-STOCK-/170581577834?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27b774506a
  11. 280zx dizzy is what we are talking about (they were the first Z here in aus to have electronic not points) and is reasonably cheap and simple to install. I am one of the people who had their tacho stop working though, so there is a possible downside. Here is the sticky thread on the topic. Very easy to to, even someone with zero experience like me could figure it out. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,5211.0.html
  12. Definitely replace all fried wires. Do you know what caused it? Here is where the fusible links are located on my car
  13. Actually yeah, try these things before buying new plugs and leads, it might save you some cash! Good tips there
  14. I had my front carby float stick open once. It was a simple matter of taking the float chamber lid off (four screws) and bending the small metal tab so that it will engage the fuel valve sooner. I suspect this is not the case for you however as you did not complain about fuel leaking from the throat of your carby, which is what I experienced. If I were you I would replace all the plugs with NGK BP"5"ES (5 means hotter, and many people on this forum have agreed that the hotter plug is better for a road car). At the same time I would also replace your leads, just to be sure it's not them. It is also possible that your dizzy needs a new cap, so I'd replace this at the same time. If you have ever considered putting an electric dizzy on the car, this would be the perfect time. Everyone here agrees they make a big improvement to the engine. I'd also suggest checking the valve clearances on your engine. If you haven't done it before it is probably better to get someone to show you rather than trying to learn from a book. If your front three cylinders are still running rich after this then I'd be taking it to a specialist again.
  15. Sounds like perhaps something shorted. Check your fusible links - they are two thick wires usually covered by a small plastic cap on the drivers side of the engine bay. I'd say you are going to need to get a wire tester out and start trying to find which wire has grounded. If you don't feel up to the task it's time to call the auto electrician i'm afraid
  16. Pretty sure Brad's rates make it worth his time to employ them as he is an engineer To relate all of this to the original question: You could make money on the car and it would be worth it if you take into account enjoying the restoration of a classic. I'm pretty sure that if you worked out how many hours it takes to restore a car vs the actual increase in value of the car it isn't looking too good in a $/hr form. However as Benny and Rev pointed out, if it's your hobby then you won't mind that it doesn't make as much money per hour as your other job Also no one has pointed out that the hassle involved shipping a car to AUS will make the car less appealing to an aussie buyer. Also it will be LHD?
  17. Not for a z car. Never heard of anyone here in aus getting all their money back upon sale :/
  18. Nah mate, didn't end up getting that privilege.
  19. Damn, wish id seen this sooner
  20. I'm available the 11th too. Who else can do that date?
  21. So what does a girdle do? Google says something about preventing cracking by having same thermal expansion as block, not quite sure how it works though.
  22. From what I remember they may not come with brackets? Which means you will have to weld them on - not sure how this might affect the chrome finish of the bumper. This was awhile ago though they might have added brackets since.
  23. Can't help with what to check. My trick is to always have the car moving very slowly when I'm turning, which takes a little getting used to. Basically in a car park I start turning slightly short of where I normally would. I keep turning the wheel while the car is slowly rolling. Makes it 10x easier
  24. Did you ever get the shipping quote? I'm currently deciding on headers for my own L28 with 45s.
  25. They were by far the cheapest for an engine from Perth-Brisbane for me +2
