My LS1 + 6speed implant is nearing completion, roll cage..guard flaring [a big job ]..even weight distribution i.e. balancing 240z corners ..and cosmetic stuff. Things are/were going slow but steady slight hiccups[ read problems] like rear hump sump mods, large fuel delivery pump and surge tank ,increasing chassis rail strength [ to help counter power twisting ], cut rail [slightly ]so steering can function with clearance and setting up computer etc The final tune before testing resulted in a mishap, the car jumped of the dyno causing slight damage to the bonnet ,bumper and spoiler when it hit the fan.Shit happens . On the positive side the engine produces 412hp and somewhere in the region of 330 rwhp I'm told. 160 kph in 4th, 220 kph in 5th and the mechanic reckons I shouldn't need 6th. Being an old man I mightn't need 5th good luck with your conversion

Not really concerned with the joke article but did have a chuckle at the nice little pun that Sirpent had in his written thoughts...."Jews believe Christ was a profit [ prophet ]..." Jews have always believed in monetary profits , hence the old saying when being tight with ones cash ' ya jewish tight wad'. But then most religions are more concerned about profit than principle Time to stop , but I did enjoy the pun and Sirpents writings "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" ...[ I hope thats sort of correct Rev ]... seems to be a good way to live your life and it also takes out religon , racism, politics.. etc Laughter is the best medicine , thats whats why I smile at the 'slinky' joke

I have a set that are new and painted silver for my 240 z that I no longer need. Looking at past ZG flare prices $220 seems about the right price. I live in N.E. Vic. but plan to visit Nth Coburg in the coming weeks if this helps with pickup ...yours steve

Adjustable Castor rods- apparent bolt on mod for S30 cars
chev z replied to luvemfast's topic in Suspension
I adapted ford xb castor rods. I made them adjustable on my race 260 2+2. Extended thread and drilled one new hole, that way I could use existing bracket and bushes -
Didn't mean to open 'a can of worms' with a throw away line, but I am serious about the race / drive and bbq idea To clarify, when I posted there were five selling posts[ in current forum ] and only one related to Z's hence the tongue in cheek post

Actually Sirpent , our farm is less than 20km from Winton raceway and I have suggested to Lurch that if a group of race or cruising Z fanatics want to stay and/ or have a bbq then they would be welcomed. Then my wife and I would definately supply the lamb, bring your own beer but...lol
-
Smartass , good one, I didn't think you were that sensitive to abit of fun .By the way I do breed lambs so this could be a legitimate ad. Wasn't referring to any specific ad. by the way.

some days you just have to laugh at yourself , I can't believe I took "fan" to mean " admire" not A bladed piece of equipment that revolves and creates wind to cool ...what a dufus ...hope everyone has a laugh at my expense , I'm just here to put asmile on peoples faces...LOL

If the imported vehicle is over 30 years old you do not have to convert to right hand drive. Upgrading of some lighting [headlights to point in the correct direction ] ,seatbelts perhaps and on some cars indicators otherwise it can be kept as is.

What width of flaring ? I have some but will need extra width than standard flares. Which raises the question , are there different sizes . Perhaps the Torana slr 5000 flares could be an option for my 240z. Is Combining Gmh and Datsun sacreligous[lol]

EOI. 280ZX Original restored. Told by son to sell.
chev z replied to electronics's topic in Cars For Sale
clarification needed, 5 speed manual or [ as in pics ] auto -
Hi, my daughter has a 1979 280zx that has just run out of rego.,it has only done 120,000 [approx.] km's There is some rust below windsreen and a spot appearing on a door, otherwise the car is great. It is a light lemon colour with pin stripes. Tyres have done very few km's . The only problem [electrical] is the fan switch is faulty, which stops the aircon from going. Overall the car is very sound, starts immediately as all good Z's do. contact me on 0427641273 if you are interested, yours Steve

Well we were back onto the Winton long track, as I mentioned ,and dropped my PB to 1min. 46.44sec. which is close to 1sec. better. Considering the brake upgrade was placed on hold , I had a small problem with brake line connections not matching, I think the better tyres and perhaps being a cooler day helped achieve this time. It was a pleasure to get reaquainted with the Devenish family and also see how a Z can be driven, 1min 38's,Pretty impressive steering Rob. I love the passion that the whole family has for the Dattos and the time they have for newbies like myself. One thing I learnt on the day ,was by setting the front konis softer by 1/2 a turn leads to slower times , 1.5sec. to 3sec. a lap.And a couple of dirt driving experiences. My fastest time of the day was after firming the front 1/2 a turn [ from the original setting] Next time out I will soften the rear by half a turn[ the rear is set on fully firm] Then will begin the lessons on adjusting the bottom settings for the konis, Hell I don't even know what that's called let alone what it does to the suspension . I have another dilema to ponder over the crop sowing period, and that is whether to transplant the V8 Lexus into the 260z or be more patient and buildup the 240z with v8 etc.......mmmmmmmmm?
-
When trying to upgrade front brakes I ran into some small problems , which got me thinking about [perhaps]a easier less costly alterative. Instead of using ventilated calipers would it be possible to split the ordinary 4 pot hilux calipers and widen the caliper with a spacer

I hope I'm not boring you with my meanderings. It is time to try my first real event. Winton motor raceway has the sprint series starting this weekend...round 1 I have decided to do the Lurch tutorial front brake upgrade and only a few other minor alterations to the setup . The only concern I have is that I can't upgrade the m/c to a 15/16 or 1 inch Thanks Lurch for tracking one down for me, a pity it won't be hear before raceday. He assures me all I need to do is PUMP the brakes alot before each corner[ lol ].I reckon I might go steady for a trial period ...say one lap Definately replace the "slip sliding" rear rubber, back to the 225 / 60 / 15 , the front will also be changed from the 205/50/15 to 205/60/15 I won't lighten , change front end castor /camber or the konis as yet , so as I can compare the cornering to last time. I think we have completed the major alterations, now it is time to fine tune these improvements. Another variable that I really haven't tinkered with is tyre pressures.Perhaps we should keep these as a constant . Any further ideas readily considered. Been to a funeral today , " LIFES SHORT so everyone HAVE A GREAT ONE "

VIRUS ALERT chev z comes down with contagious disease
chev z replied to chev z's topic in General Discussions
Pauly, I bought the car after it didn't bring a bid on ebay, approx. 10 days later. 20% less Spoke to the engine importer / loom/computer guru about the car etc before purchasing, he was very obliging and checked his records for me .The eng. has only done 44,000 kms ,he also stated the owner was concientious in care and preparation. The shell is A1, no rust The ebay number was 290294908414, punch that in and it should come up. The only draw back was driving the 3350 kms round trip towing a trailer. Our commode sure didn't like towing in 37 degree heat, yep we travelled most of NSW without the aircon. going. Definately getting to old for that many km's in 3.5 days I think it's a decent buy, leave your honest opinions good or bad....Steve -
Well , I definately have done it this time . Due to the want for more i.e. more power ,more acceleration and more speed I bought the 240z that was advertised south of Brisbane. Yes I first checked my life insurance policy and it eliminates a payout to my LOVING wife if she murders me. Then as with all gutsy decisions ,I waited till she wasn't home and did the deal over the phone. "WE" are now the proud owners of a Lexus motored silver 240z. The car still needs a fair bit to get her up and running, but I am excited by the project, I would love to do some sort of targa rally eventually. Start at a basic level and slowly move up. As of all great ideas there is an equal and opposite idea [i bet your getting my drift] So I have been informed by my wise and previously understan... um ..oblivio....um....patient wife that two cars are to make themselves available for sale.See no pressure from her, it's the cars decision which will go. At this stage it is between a yellow 1979 280 zx[ 120k orig. kms] , a yellow 1977 mustang celica and the cars reckon a very yella CHEV Z.
