  1. Good to hear some history from someone who was there at the beginning. Thanks for that.

    rust convertors

There's one called www.rustbullet.com.au which I haven't had any experience with . This stuff http://www.kbs-coatings.com.au/ I have tried. The company I work for does maintenance work on underwater vehicles which we've tried it on. Is great stuff. I blasted my engine cross member and coated with it. It sets hard as rock. I'll have to check how it is to sand or remove. It goes on very nicely though and can be sprayed as normal undercoat.

    Gearbox mount

Just ordered new gearbox mount from Nissan. They want $140 for it!!!!!. Has anyone else ordered one from Nissan at this price? The same place also charged me about $120 for a clutch master cyl. I'm sure they can't be making prices up???
  5. Rip out the radiator to make sure you have plenty of room. When you lift it on the angle you need to clear engine bay, be ready for the oil to piss out of your gearbox where the drive shaft used to be.
  6. Shouldn't have to remove torque converter to separate motor and box, but the inspection plate you blokes are talking about on the lower half of the bell housing will allow you to get as far as you have and then stop. Split mine about a month ago and got the same result. For some reason thought I'd be able to split it with that plate on.
  7. Looks great. Ialso like the idea of taking the whole family. You'd want aircon atm though down there. Looks like your bumper rubs on your headlight bucket too. I stuck a bit of rubber in there after my respray.
  8. Considering some pretty nice examples going for under 3 lately, I'd say 2 is pushing it, but hey if it has rego it's always a plus. Guess the others are right about price varying depending on where they seem to be advertised.
  9. The XR700 are a pretty good setup for less than $200. Had mine in for 18 mths without a drama. Took about an hour or two install not too stressful.
  10. What model is your car? Earlier ones are cable controlled and the later models think 76 and later had the air operated switching.
  11. Bugger, well that's PITA
  12. http://newcastlezeds.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1184661166/15#15 Here's a link which shows some pics of my sill removal. As you can see at the bottom edge I drilled out all the spot welds. How are your sills where the gaurds bolt on (can't view your pics for some reason)
  13. I find Mull's videos on hybrid z forum motivating. Might want to check it out cause he does a great video diary as he pulls it apart. Think you could learn a lot from it. Good luck mate. BTW there is no break in the sill which runs under your door if that's what you were hoping. I'd rip those gaurds off the front. Just a tip you need to remove the panel in front of your windscreen first to get at a couple of bolts.
  14. That's a very clean looking car. Had it long? Do the work yourself? edit - my bad, just did a search got the story
  15. some people don't deserve zeds
  16. I think you'll find most repco type places carry these in sets. Remember having to buy some when I had a louvre.
  17. well when you've owned a car for that long, it doesn't seem like so much to spend to keep her going and looking nice. Considering the amount of money you could lose in that time buying new cars and watching their value plummit
  18. Sounds like a good project. Think I remember seeing this on ebay? It's not a fun trip down to the bottom there. Me and a mate headed out from Newcastle at 1730 Friday arvo (turned around 30 min down road after car trailer jumped off ball and sanpped wiring) then headed off about 1830. Crashed in truck stop on side of road at about 3am. Then up again at 6 to head down Narre Warren to Mayhem's to pick up 240. Got home about 11pm Sat night. Takes it out of ya.
  19. "Newer R180s are availabe from the 84-88 200SX and have a[glow=red,2,300] large K [/glow] cast into the top of the housing. They can be used in the Z with some modifications. The newer diffs use a stub shaft that plugs into the diff and is retained by a circlip, and the older diffs used a bolt in stub shaft." About 7th paragraph down, then goes on to explain "Modification procedures to convert new K R180 to bolt in stub shafts" Posted the link for other peoples sake as well, it's a good read.
  20. Ah ha. This is where I read about the K. Maybe I'm not losing my mind after all. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=114798
  21. I think shannons are very flexible in this respect. Good premiums too.
  22. Damn, I thought 2 inches of nice clean rainwater in the floor of my zed yesterday was bad. Guess it's nothing compared to that clean up.
  23. Not trying to take business away from this site (even though the Sydney Zed site is way quieter than this one) but the Sydney Zed club do some good runs etc. I'm more active with Newcastle Zeds but have been on a run with the Sydney Zed guys and are a great bunch. Every now and then they get motivated to organise really good events. Maybe I could just forward them on to this site for info??? http://www.zcarclub.com.au
  24. There you go I'm arse about as usual.
  25. That is an R180. I've read that R180's marked with a K are from later model 200sx or something. My 73 240 had a K on it's R180 as well.Out of my 3 R180's, I think only one doesn't have the K
