It's been interesting to see people's thoughts and opinions. 2 sets that needed work to finish off, with custom machining on expensive engineering equipment. Soooo, using your logic Alex. 240Z's could be bought new for what, $3,500? Does that mean they are worth that now? No! Jakes example is the closest I guess. Because you need to add all the rest of the gear and labour. How many people have bought "rebuilt" carbs from places like Wolf Creek Racing, only to get them and find they need a REAL rebuild? At a price of $1,000+ Anywho. I'm keeping them anyway. I dooooo love them! If you can get them for $2k. Grab them!

I've had a look at the possibility of machining the Mikuni's while they were apart and agree that it could be done. I also knoticed that 40 and 44 pump jets are different lengths, so assume that 50's are dfferent again.

Not even close! You also say the heads been ported. Any flow figures? Because there's porting...... And there's PORTING! To give you an idea. My L28 is bored 3mm over, PORTED!, forged domed pistons, long rods, pretty big cam, good headers, 2.5" exhaust, modified dizzy, triple 44PHH Mikuni's and so on. I've got 146 rear wheel kW's. There's more with exhaust and cam upgrades. But estimate the set up you're talking about to be 80-100kW's. (Being generous) You're a young bloke? If you get 110kW's in a Z, you'll have a blast. Do brakes and suspension first.

Riiiggghhhhhhttttttt. Sure you're the one not missing it? Either way. The GT2 car looks like it needs a fair bit of work to bring up to an acceptable standard. It's also struggling for a class to race/sprint it. Then there's the fact. That it won't necessarily improve your lap times anyway! However. It does seem to be good buying.

On the head side? I'd think it'd need to be better than that. I've always been told to stay clear of those soft Weber mounts with Mikuni's. I did use them with those carbs many years ago and didn't have any real problems. But all the experts will steer you away from them.

What would you know about oil..... Good point that people overlook.

Did you check the manifold for warpage with a straight edge?
