  1. Thanks mate! PM'd!
  2. Don't suppose you grabbed any pics of the rust? Guessing it was through all the standard spots? (Sills, hatch, wheel well etc?) This is nice example, pretty much what I've been looking for, and local to me. Just shoddy timing for me personally >.< (Just moved house an funds are a little low)
  3. Thanks for the replies guys! He doesn't have any steelies that will fit over the calipers. Apparently they're 4x114.5 stud pattern.
  4. I'd love to, but I face a few problems with the trialing. Rota's shop is in Melbourne, so I can't pop in and ask to try one out since I'm on the Gold Coast I've also not found any cheap wheels in this size and wouldn't trust myself with making a mock up Also he lives a good 9-10 hour round trip away. I met with him half way (so 5 hour round trip each) to test drive the car - I'd really only like to make the 10 hour trip once, to pick up the car and spares. Ahh the things we do for nice cars. (P.s. does everyone else's friends/family/colleagues think they're insane for lusting after a 40+ year old car?) Edit: Forgot to mention, when we took it for a drive there was some occasional rubbing on the rear on rough dips. The guards have not been rolled, but sounds like this is an easy enough job to do once the cars home?
  5. Hi Guys, After several years of dreaming, hoping, and gawking, I'm now trying to line up the purchase of my first Z - a 240z at that. I've searched and couldn't find anything that answered my question - but I could just suck at searching. The guy upgraded the brakes, to 6 pot wilwoods on the front and 280z discs on the back. The only wheels he had that fit required spacers to change the stud pattern to a 5 stud - due to the spacers these won't pass RWC. I've arranged with him to lower the price and I'll supply wheels, he gets to keep his which he likes, and I essentially get the wheels I want. He's advised they need to be at least 16" to clear the calipers, so with that in mind I've got my eye on some Rota Grid Classics. He said to go a +0 offset. So I picked out some Gunmetal (w/ polished lip) 16x8 +0. He says that should fit really nicely, however I just wanted to confirm with the masses. There's no rolled guards or flares. I also need to line up tires. I was guesstimating (and I'm a complete novice on tire measurements) that I should go something like a 225/50r16? Will this work under the stock arches? He has upgraded springs/shocks but they're not coilovers. TL;DR Version Rims - 16x8+0 Tires - 225/50r16 Will this fit under stock arches?
  6. Thanks for all the replies everyone. Either way the power to weight will certainly make it feel faster than a Camry with 90KW - Maybe not the straight line that the Supra has, but the main reason for me looking at this Z in particular is the fact it has 6 pot Wilwood fronts, 280z rear discs, eibach springs, KYB struts and polyurethane bushes throughout and looks as rust free as you can expect a Z. I do the occasional track day here and there, but other than commuting most of my driving time is spent around the mountains - so good handling was at the top of the list. I had heard that the 1JZs are an easier swap as long as you get the rear sump. Something about stock/2JZ engine mounts and a new crossmember?
  7. Yeah, FI is always a relatively cheap way of making power. I think eventually I'd look at a 1JZ conversion - a base I'm familiar with. The power to weight is definitely a lot different when compared to a Mk4 supra weighing in at close to 1500KG. The reason I'm most interested in this car is because it has brake and suspension upgrades galore, so it's the perfect base for a future engine conversion. But I'd be planning to run with the L28 for a while yet.
  8. Thanks for the guestimate. That's the kind of answer I was looking for. So the opinion is that those carbies are the restriction/bottleneck here (and maybe the cams?) I come from the 2J world where once you go forged, the sky is the limit. He's selling it with an L28 fuel injected and 'aggressive' cam spare engine, so I may have some stuff to work with here before looking at an engine swap.
  9. Hah Ok. Yeah, that was an extremely optimistic guess as that's about the top for an N/A l28 right? I'll admit I'm a young bloke, I know a bit more about Fuel injected forced induction engines than the N/A Carbies, but I'm learning!
  10. Hi guys, I'm looking at purchasing a 240z which has an L28 swap. The owner has done quite a bit of work to the block but due to his area never had chance to have it on a Dyno for some real tuning. He doesn't know what it's putting out currently but I'd like to get an idea of it's potential that I could expect if I had it put on a dyno with a decent tuner. Also to this point, can anyone suggest a good L series tuner on the Gold Coast / Brisbane area? It is N/A so I was guessing I'd be optimistic for 200-250hp at the wheels? Below are the specs he has provided me on the engine; F54 block - Bored 40 thou tanked and surfaced. New welsh plugs, new crank bearings, new flat top forged pistons N42 head - Ported beadblasted & polished New intake and exhaust valves, springs and valve caps (no specs on these at the moment) Mild cams (no specs currently) and reconditioned distributor graphted to match the cam. Pair of 32/36 Downdraft Webber carbies Extractors into 2 1/4" exhaust R180 3.9 Dif 280ZX 5 Speed Gearbox Other items that are more general maintenance and reliability; Adjustable timing kit New water pump I know that there's some variables here, as N/A will greatly differ off how aggressive the cams are and I don't have specs, but if anyone could give me a ballpark / confirm my thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
  11. I've been talking to the bloke with the 17.9k Red 240z in QLD. I'm thinking about driving up there soon to take a look. Any tips for me? I've only been to see rust buckets before.
  12. What are the effort levels to get her back to street legal? None of the pics on the build thread will come up
  13. Any pics of the extent of the rust?
  14. Right, OK. Didn't realize that was a dealbreaker for a lot of people. Struggle with parts for LHD cars or people just don't like driving LHD?
  15. Anyone know the story behind this car? It seems like it's been around for a long while, and everyother 240z seems to fly out at this price. Had a lurk and couldn't find any threads on it, but I'm guessing there's a big underlying reason? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/datsun-240z-nissan-2-door-240z-v8-chev-t350-/141030623910?pt=AU_Cars&hash=item20d6148aa6&_uhb=1
