Did R31 rear disc conversion several years ago. Was never really happy with handbrake operation, long lever travel and lack of adjustment. Have always had my calipers mounted at the 12 o'clock position, which is different to the way I see most people mount them. Have taken a few photos this time to give anyone who is considering this conversion another option. With the caliper mounted at 12 o'clock no problems bleeding the system, no need to extend brake hoses. Handbrake cable is re-routed and secured by bolting a fabricated bracket, which is bolted into two existing holes on top of rear axle housing. These holes are already threaded and the bracket bolts straight on. Handbrake lever on the caliper has to be modified, I simply used a small piece of angle iron welded onto the bottom of the existing arm. This has a hole drilled in it so the cable can be attached with a pin. First time around didn't have cable mounting bracket mounted far enough forward for sufficient handbrake travel. Have now re-drilled these and moved the bracket slightly forward and at the same time I modified the handbrake cable bracket which is mounted in the transmission tunnel (this modification has been covered elsewhere here). Now handbrake has short throw and excellent holding power.

if you plan to keep your car long term then follow your dream. dimitris car is what inspired me to go itb injection took me five years to gather the parts and do the planning eg. injector size; fuelpumps; reg; ecu; air filters; fuel rail; lines;ignition;tacho;thermo fan; etc etc it is a job not to be taken lightly and must be done right the first time. took me and my brother six weeks in our spare time to fit it and get it running we made our own fuel and ignition maps and tune it on the road, car is running great and we are able to improve the tune after driving by cheching the data log. do it right dont cut corners and you wont be disapointed

z is clean car have got bits and pieces in the shead for it that havent been fitted yet zedman it was your car that inspired me to go with the tbi would also like to have gone rb twin cam which you were running at one stage sorry still havent got start up clip sorted out

L28ET CAS/Distributor fitted with RB30 trigger disc delivers the Home and Trigger inputs to the ECU and distributes spark to the plugs. Went this way 'cause I prefer the old school look. Has not been dyno tuned, all tuning has been done on road using the wideband O2 sensor and Haltech autotune as well as refinements offline via datalog. Very happy with progress so far, car is very drivable and performing well. WOT not fine tuned as yet and closed loop yet to be initiated. Rev limiter successfully tested. Have a couple of video clips of first startup and tuned idle. will post a link when I work out the rest of this high tech stuff. Cheers, DatoZed

AEM Wideband O2 controller/guage was fitted into the original clock housing, output fed to the Haltech ECU Thermofan fitted to front of radiator, I went this way to keep a clean engine bay. Controlled by ECU. Throttle linkage had to be fabricated as the Throttlebodies operated on the other direction Throttlebodies are fitted with Bosch bluetop high impedance injectors, triggered semi sequentially Fuel rail was custom made in the shed and was a real challenge on my little Ryobi drill press. Very happy with the outcome, no leaks. Installed MSD 6AL2, MSD Blaster 2 coil.

QuickSilver aftermarket EFI Conversion... This is how it went together: Researched and purchase all the parts over a number of years before starting the conversion. Fabrication of mounts and brackets and small parts mostly completed prior to starting the conversion. Pics below show: All the gear ready to go in Fitting of the wideband O2 sensor bungs into the extractors Two VL Turbo fuel pumps and surge tank installed Due to ignition upgrade, OEM current triggered tacho replaced by 5" Autometer Monster Tacho custom fitted with three LEDs.. One each for Blinkers, Shift Light and High Beam indicator in readiness for upcoming Autometer speedometer upgrade.

Been here long time but I usually keep my thoughts and comments to myself as there are people here with much more knowledge and experience than me. Have recently completed some work on my Z which has inspired me to introduce myself and my Z to you. I have no mechanical or fabrication qualifications but all work is done by me, at home in the shed applying the principals of trial and error is a proven technique. Have owned my Z for about nine years. It was purchased unregistered and required only a minimum of parts and work to be made roadworthy. Work I have completed since owning the Z: L28 ported head, cam, springs, lash pads, new timing gear Rebuilt gearbox, diff needs doing Lightened flywheel Brake upgrade: Toyota front, R31 rear discs, larger master cylinder, rebuilt booster Sectioned struts fitted with coil-overs and adjustable Konis Front and rear strut braces 80 amp alternator, upgraded headlight system Some interior mods But what has inspired this article is the completion of aftermarket EFI conversion which I have been planning to do for about five years. Will start a build thread to show you how it all went together. Cheers, DatoZed

if you walk away the only one who gets screwed is you you work hard to earn your money and you paid to have the job done not half a job let them know what the problem was and let them know your not happy your not the bad guy never just walk away from shit like this if he fixed your car and you didnt pay the bill you would be hearing from him yes or no

Job done, all too easy. VL RB30 dizzy from wreckers $5, removed disc. L28ET dizzy with drive shaft from Ebay $99, removed disc. RB30 disk bolted straight in, no mods, everything lined up. IMPORTANT: Just make sure up is up. Both rotate counter clockwise. All you need is a screwdriver. Total cost $104, dont need to spend $600. Can now do Semi or full sequential inj, dizzy, Wasted spark or COP. Thanks for replys, hope this helps someone else

i have a l28 turbo cas dissy and can get vl dissy cheap was hopeing i could just swap the disc, anyone done this thanks for the replys
-
Can anyone tell me if a RB30 CAS disc fits a L28ET dizzy as I am wanting to run semi sequential or sequential fuel injection on L28 and need the home slot so ECU knows where No. 1 is? Thanks
-
good deal. i still havent worked out what i need, if i tune with semi seq mode firing 3x2 injectors each injector fireing 2 shots of fuel per cycle my 180cc injectors should do the job does that sense
-
all ready have the throttle bodies, are vl injectors low or high impedance ?. im wanting high impedance so i can pair the injectors up 2 per driver and not use any resistors using after market ecu . thanks for the info first time doing efi
-
thanks nizmozed ill check out my injectors numbers .
-
Thanks for the replies throttle bodies are already fitted with bosch 188 cc low impedance injectors which I believe are out of 280zx. Think these are only capable of supporting about 180 hp. So looking for an alternative high impedance injector to support 220+ hp. I think injectors out of four litre ford six might be a compatible match. I think they are high impedance bosch 21 pound but may have to change fuel rail as they are not hose-tail connection. Any thoughts on this?
-
Hi people, can anyone advise me on what size injectors I should run in 40mm I.T.B (EFI hardware) Will be fitting them on my L28, has cam, ported-head extractors. When this motor is fully developed hoping for 200 to 220 h.p. Car is driven on the road and revved to 7000. Wanting high impedance injectors about 14 ohms or higher. Any help appreciated, thanks.

Think it may be ignition timing , take out number one plug, poke something down the hole, roll the crank backwards and forwards to locate top dead centre . When your sure it is on top dead centre check to see where the mark is on your harmonic balancer, I think it may be possible that your harmonic balancer has slipped . So if you are timing it with a light your timing will still be wrong have seen this twice before .

Post a few pics of a short-shift kit that I made for my blue-bird. This was used with a full-length stick and worked well. Would be super-quick and close if used with a short stick. Have been going to make one for my Z which has a short-stick but haven't got round to it. The spacer was made of 40mmx40mmx3mm box. Stick height for the pin was extended 30mm.

FuFu'Z 240Z Project! 56K warning... too slow.
datozed replied to fufu's topic in Members Project(s) Journal
Just checked the date on my receipt bought the bumper in 2009 oopppss ( bought the front spoiler that's sitting in the shed 2 years ago ) . At the time of purchase front bar was available with or without mounting brackets . Was asked to put up pics back then but I'm not that clever lol...Will put up pics of quick shift kit when I can work out how to do it hopefully soon ..
