  1. You know, this probably should have been in Engine Swaps. Apologies!
  2. Hey guys, I'm thinking that when the time is financially right (which hasn't been right for a while and won't be for a while longer. yay.), I might get a 180SX. Now, I know this has been one of the main victims of the rice style, but I think any RPS13 looking like the one below is a damn good looking car. In my opinion—4cylinder engine and popup headlights aside—the 180SX is a much truer successor to the Z legend than any of the overweight whales that officially followed the S30. I agree the interior is a bit bland, but I think it has its own charm. So with all that in mind, I'd love to drop an L28 in to it. Can anyone tell me what the pros and cons of a switch like that would be? I've seen one example on the net, in the US, of a 240SX (basically the same car but with some American-market engine in it) with an L28, and it sounded amazing. Is the engine too old to bother using in anything other than a classic car? I know it's a good option for those who want to keep an old engine in their old car, but is it a stupid idea to want to put one in a 180SX? I don't like 4cylinders much, and I don't want an RB engine purely because it's been done to death. I love the sound of the L28, and I think we can all agree that L28-powered cars have their fair share of get up and go. How difficult a swap would it be? Would there be much work in mating it up to the standard transmission, or failing that, would I be able to shoehorn in a transmission from the S130 or Z31? Would I be better off with the L28ET? For what it's worth, I'm not looking for ultimate power, or even handling for that matter. I just want something that's unique without being lame (a recipe I think a lot of people find difficult), and that sounds awesome on the throttle.
  3. Hahah, that reminds me of when we used to tape footy games for my uncle in the US and mail them to him once a month. Well, a friend received his copy of JNC today. As soon as he called me while I was on my way home from work, I took the next right and headed directly to his house. After all, I haven't got my own copy yet! So I've now got his copy sitting in front of me, haha. Good guy that he is, he let me borrow it overnight. I have to say, I'm pretty damn happy with it. All the little errors and cockups that I'd been worrying about for the last few weeks are a lot less noticeable in print. Very stoked, whatever the case may be. I was hoping the cover stock was going to be heavier/thicker, but that's okay. Can't win 'em all! Expenses are expenses, after all. I think those of you who've ordered a copy are going to be very pleased!
  4. One of our readers took a photo of the front and back cover of the magazine (and the stickers that came with it). This is the first time I've seen the magazine in any form other than PDF, haha. Freakin' excited now.
  5. Hey guys, Just wanted to share this bit of feedback from one of our readers. The magazine shipped in the past week or so, so everyone's mags should arrive in the next few weeks we hope!
  6. Sold already! The bastard
  7. I'd say Aus/NZ have a higher price because we're a lot further from the US than any part of Europe is, haha.
  8. Hey guys, thanks for the great feedback! I think you're all going to be really pleased with what you get. Ben, Dan, Mike, and Kev are all great writers and I'm eager to get my copy. I've been trying not to read the articles as I work (well, I read as much as I need to) because I want to try to get the same experience from it that our readers will get. So I'm looking forward to it as much as anyone! Gav: Mate, that would be awesome. All I can suggest is that you shoot an email to the guys - jump on their website to get the address - and let them know that I told you to email them. The fact that you're in Europe is pretty handy I would think, so that might be a boon too. I'd love to see a feature on Mull's Z, even though it's not finished haha. Call it "The Story So Far..." haha.
  9. Yeah, depends on perspective I guess. The big magazines owned by the big companies can be sold for less, because they've got a lot more leverage in the industry, and their magazines are loaded to the top with advertising. Ours has advertising, but about a 10th as much as most other magazines. You know how you open a mag, and the first 8 pages are ads? Not here man!
  10. Hey all. As anyone on my facebook knows, I've been working hard for the past few months on the design for the first issue of the upcoming US publication, Japanese Nostalgic Car. It's the first US (or possibly anywhere in the west?) magazine to focus 100% on classic Japanese cars. Here's a bit of a preview of what's to come. It's an 83 page magazine, professionally printed, perfect bound, and on good solid stock with card covers front and back (not unlike Freestyle magazine's covers). I'd tell you exactly what weight the card and paper is, but it's measured in some stupid US scale rather than in gsm, haha. Sorry! Suffice to say, it's all damn nice. I hope those of you interested in classic JDM will consider buying a copy from http://japanesenostalgiccar.com! Unfortunately it's not being distributed through stores here in Aus - that kind of thing is damn hard and expensive to line up. You may also recognise a certain red Z in a couple of shots
  11. Torrents for eps 5 and 6 have been available for over a month. http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/1044.html Waiting patiently (damn it) for subs of 7 and 8. I think 9 and 10 have already aired in Japan.
  12. This is one I'll be waiting to see at the cinema. I download TV shows, I admit, but I do definitely prefer to see movies at the cinema or the proper DVD version on a good TV.
  13. Wow, this thread sorta came back from the dead, huh! Haha.
  14. Hehe, I would hope everyone here knows about Austin's car! http://grandjdm.com/2007/11/05/vq-why-thatd-be-very-quick/ http://grandjdm.com/2007/09/21/the-devil-zs-in-the-details/
  15. Exactly twice the length of the middle to the end
  16. Woo! BRE 240Z FTW!
  17. Why do they even need to be approved? Is the danger of someone posting porn in the gallery really that high? Crazy stuff, I had no idea! Anyway, looks like you blokes had a top time. Very jealous, wish I could have made it!
  18. Aaaah yes, Austin Hoke. This guy's fantastic. I'd pay him to build an S30 for me, haha. Edit: Holy crap, he's putting a VQ in his S30? I wonder if that's a first!
  19. Haha yeah, I'm addicted to high contrast/saturation/shadows in automotive photos! I'm aware it's not kosher as far as "professionalism" goes, but for my own tastes, I dig it big time
  20. Yeah, the high saturation and contrast is just me playing around in Photoshop. The original RAW files are much more traditional, hehe. And yep, very big files, and wallpapers will be available along with the feature!
  21. Well! We finally managed to organise a time that was suitable for all of us (Sulio, myself, and my budding amateur photographer girlfriend) to snap some shots of Sulio's Z for the December feature car at grandJDM, and lo and behold; it rained. You just can't write that kind of ironic tragedy! Nevertheless, the rain eventually buggered off, and while the sky remained more or less overcast, we did manage to get some good shots in. So, here's three of them. The rest will be available at grandJDM.com in December, so stay tuned! And of course, November's feature car is a sexy C10 GT-R replica, so be sure to check that out in the next few days too </shameless plug> Enjoy!
  22. Nah, the correct English term for them is Michael Boltons
  23. Far out Sulio, that was unreal. You've got the L28 in now right? Gotta get you out for a photoshoot very soon. grandJDM hasn't had an S30 featured yet, because I've been hanging out to do yours!
