    Tunning SU's

My L28 with twin round top Hitachi's gets about 260km's to a tank with city driving on regular rubbish fuel. I'm driving to Ballarat tomorrow so I'll see what highway driving returns.
  2. Everything mentioned matches what i've read: higher air flow at higher RPM's, better airflow as well. Also better tunability for each cylinder. I've heard tripples are incredibly thirsty as well (not surprising).
  3. Hey Evan, i've got an input shaft I used on mine last year for the same thing. Let me know if you need it (or a hand, i'm eastern suburbs as well)
  4. Congrats on a great night. Fantastic facilities at the Jag car club, the videos of Ash's race Z was a great touch. I've included some photos I got, a lot of them were too blurry to use  i'll bring the tripod next time. I've got accomodation for the Datnats in Easter, will have a look at the show on Sunday and try and make it to the track for a squiz. I'd definately be up for a cruise now my wheels are balanced - properly.
  5. Regarding the heat from the tranny tunnel, maybe some heat shielding above the exhaust might help? I've noticed later model cars use heat sheilding extensively.
  6. Mmmm, $190 is a bit much for me, adding in fuel for the day. Meant to be saving for a holiday in May  Might see if I can make it down for the display though.
  7. Hey Gav, I'm interested in the diamond vinyl, door trims and carpets. When you say door trims, do you mean just the trim itself, or the moulded board as well? When I was living in Sydney I got a quote to re-pad my seats (not re-upholster) the guy quoted me $360 for each seat, which I thought was rediculous
  8. Motorkhanas are great. I did a number of them back 2002-2003 in my series 1 Bluebird. Probably the cheapest form of motorsport left (both in fees and running costs) plus you don't need a super duper car to have fun. Make sure your handbrake works though, for dirt courses you'll need it.
  9. I need the first three items on that list. My interior is crap. How about non specific Z/Datsun items? Everyone needs items like oil, spark plugs, filters, etc. A simple discount from a particular spare parts shop would be handy. Out of interest, how many members do we have? Maybe team up with Ozdat to help boost numbers would help getting a good deal?
  10. More info to bombard you with Gav! If you didn't already know, make sure you get a moisture trap for spraying, it's surprising how much moisture comes out of the air. Also, if you were thinking of getting a rattle gun for undoing wheel nuts, a larger diameter hose really helps.
  11. I'm not sure now. I put a different set of wheels on the back and the vibration is gone. I can't run these other wheels and i'm not sure what to do! The 'bad' wheels have new tyres and were balanced only a few months ago. Might have to go to another tyre place for another balance.
  12. Must suck having your car stolen, at least it was easy to find though!
  13. Hey Heath, yours vibrates as well? Mines about the same: around 115-120km/h How much to get the tailshaft balanced?
  14. Is your alternator charging? Get a multimeter and check the voltage of the battery the the motor off, then with it running. If the alternator is working the meter should read 13-14.5volts with the engine running.
  15. Mmmm, doesn't sound very good. The fried earth wire that you mentioned, was that the one going from the battery to the car body, or somewhere else? As far as the battery draining, what period of time was this over? If you have some more info that'd be great.
  16. I'm considering entering, need a decent set of brake pads though, my stockies didn't handle Sandown very well
  17. If you do take your Z back to get them done (and this applies to any mechanic) i'd want to be leaving the car with him overnight, so he can check cold start operation the following morning. It took me a while to get right myself, but I found (as with most carbied vehicles) that engine and ambient air temperature play a big part. A quick tune isn't likely to address this.
  18. Hi spunkee, I've been told that genuine SU carbs are better than the OEM Hitachi copies that Z's came with, but i've never had a genuine one so can't comment. Do you have the 'flat-top' or 'roundtop' style Hitachis, as the flat-tops are apparently crap (there's plenty of discussion on these elsewhere). My 240 has the round-tops and although i've spent some time adjusting and testing them, I find they are adequate for my needs. Getting spare bits for genuine SU's might be easier, so I guess one thing to look at is the condition both sets of carbs are in.
  19. Mmmm, have you tried getting the fuel pump to draw from a small container at the front of the car? If that doesn't work, check there is fuel getting to the float bowls in case the needle and seats are stuck (an inverted screwdriver tapped on the hose fittings usually works)
  20. Have you tried contacting Nissan? Not sure if they have synchros but they seem to have certain parts still around.
  21. My Z came with a non-standard tap, sounds the same as Huws, works fine.
  22. I saw it, not sure on the styling myself, but I found it funny it has manual window winders "in the interest of keeping it simple" yet has ABS and traction control.
  23. Sounds good might bring my SLR and other bits for some pics.
  24. Sunday only. Full fields you say? I hope I got my forms in on-time.
