I’m after these too! Happy to join in a group buy.

The current issue of Practical Performance Car has an article on fitting an EFI setup to a 240. http://www.ppcmag.co.uk/ Theyre using an Omex kit, which looks similar to the EFI hardware gear

Cool! But even cooler is the datsun dc3 for sale on that site... Can anyone translate?

Hi folks, i'm looking for a 240/260 wiper motor. The current one has seized, and the smoke got out before the fuse blew... Happy to pay reasonable cost. I'm located north of Melbourne. Thanks! Gary

I've got a spare set if you want them. These were made up from washers by an exhaust shop when I had some headers fitted. Strangely 1 is flat. The other 5 have a step on them. I'm in Gisborne if you want to pick them up (or Docklands during the week). Or I could mail them free if you donate to the site... Cheers Gary

Hotwires are gone!

Hi folks, I've got some rims taking up space in my shed - will swap for a slab (not light beer - maybe Fat yak) or a decent 240 wiper motor. Four 260Z rims - Surface is pitted, but look like they should polish up ok. No centre caps or nuts. Four 14" hotwires, with 215/65 Bridgestone Turanza's on them. One tyre worn on the inside edge, otherwise OK tread. Pickup is from Gisborne. Cheers, Gary

Hmm, mine is a 72 auto, 2450 pounds (1111 kg)! Which places it in the next bracket (original weight x 5) So I "could" go for a 5.55 litre engine... Interesting stuff - it would seem to make Tim's 6 litre conversion a rare breed. Anyway, sorry for hijacking your build thread. Awesome work, and it has inspired me to get back into working on my car. G

Just reading the ncop specs for engine upgrades, it says the maximum displacement will be Original mass (kg) x 4 for cars between 800kg and 1100kg. I recall a 240z was just under 1100kg (dry weight?) So this means the maximum size engine swap for a 240z is now only around 4.3 litres? Theres more info herehttp://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/pdf/NCOP3_Section_LA_Engine_01jan2011_v3.pdf G

Fuel Cap/Cover - There's a spectrum and I'm on it

Hmm, might be on to something here. Although it might be better to start with transplanting the engine from a 280 into a 240. And then have a quiet cup of tea and reconsider things... -
What side of town are you on? I'd be happy to take a look if you want. $1000 sounds expensive just to change over to 240 carbs! (Then again, it can be fiddly, and time is money) G

Hi mate, nice car! Have you tried winding the jets back up a touch? Also check that the "choke" mechanisms aren't stuck while your there. Could also be a stuck float in one of the carbies - but better to try the easy stuff first. Also, how do you know it's running rich? What colour are the spark plugs after a run? G

Hey guys, it was great to see a nice row of Z's out in the sunshine! I was very impressed with the two-tone brown 1600 too. Cheers, G

I think the 280zx looks best in silver - it keeps with the 1980's "techno" ethos, like old casio watches and VCR's. Otherwise I reckon the metallic magenta from the Torana concept car would be stunning: Link But steer clear of the dodgy matching white leather interior... G

Hey, nice car - nothing wrong with the frankenstein look, it reminds me a little of this car on Speedhunters (at least in spirit, not model) Never mind not taking the kid in the car, I don't even let mine in the garage anymore! What's with pulling the knobs off the dash all the time? These old datsuns fall to bits quick enough on their own... G

Ho folks, just bringing an old thread back to life... I've been hunting around the parts shops for replacement rack ends, and it seems these aren't available anywhere. (neither 240Z or early 280ZX). I'm afraid to drive my car again until they're fixed. Does anyone know of a current supplier? Or have something under the bench (handsome reward on offer...) I found these on ebay, but not sure if they're correct: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replacement-Tie-Rod-End-/290788197934?fits=Make:Nissan|Model:240Z&hash=item43b453c62e&item=290788197934&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr G

Took the car in to the local tyre shop for a look and it seems the steering rack is shot. Was difficult to see when sitting on the ground, but up on the hoist we could see a fair amount of play. Any recommendations for where I can get the rack overhauled? (Melbourne north west). Or is there a modern replacement that's easy to install? Also the left rear has excessive toe-in (+12). Are there adjustable bushes available to fix this? I'm not looking for a fully adjustable suspension, just enough to set things good enough for normal road driving. G

Ok, I've reinstalled the washers with the dish side out (ie opposite to the attached pic). The steering vibration has gone, but the vagueness remains - as if not enough positive castor angle. I'm booking in to Trutrack in North Melbourne for a wheel alignment next week, as they're quite close to where I work. I gather they're well respected, but suspect they could be pricey - any opionions? Cheers, G

I've been experiencing poor handling and steering response on my car for some time now, but haven't had any spare time to investigate properly. Tonight I noticed the washers on the caster rods are installed differently. The right side has them cupped inwards, whereas the left has them cupped out wards. I'm guessing this is affecting both the caster and toe-in on one wheel. Probably my fault - don't know when... Any ideas which way is correct? Also the right hand rod seems to be adjustable, with a threaded section, where the left side doesn't have this. Is this a standard feature? Why not both? Thanks in advance! Gary

Also helps if you still have the warm water supply connected to the manifolds. This helps ensure you don't get fuel pooling up after the carbies and causing sluggish response when you floor the accelerator. Sadly my setup is disconnected due to being clogged up with gunge and the pipe corroded. It gets really cold where i live, and the Z's poor cold starting abilities is one of it's real downsides...no amount of swearing can wake it up some days! G

I agree, round taillights somehow don't belong. There's also 240 with a 610 station wagon rear section welded on - extremely wrong... I guess these were cheap cars once, and ripe candidates for abuse. Just like FJ holdens in the 80's, with all sorts of ill-advised mods done to them (square headlights anyone?...)

I went for old Hella 4004 mirrors on my car. They're similar to bullets but blend in more smoothly. And they're also period correct 1970's era...but can be hard to find. I also like the Talbot 333 mirrors, often seen on Porsche 356's and Karmann ghia's. Vitaloni Californian's could look good, just a pity they don't come in chrome. G
