I think we just need a laptop and we should all work from home! Turn the office buildings into apartments for the the skilled migrant engineers and IT staff coming in from overseas. That would make the roads less congested so we can keep on driving and enjoying our Zeds. Let's get our priories right!! Lynton

Welcome! I reckon one of those 280ZX's would look good with some fat old school wannabes wheels ..........go on try them! Lynton

I believe in the US they even use Chevy orange to replicate color of airbox for restoration Lynton

There were a couple of interesting colors in the last of the Zeds but I don't remember pink maybe champagne silver color? Lynton

FS: (SYD) L24+5 SPEED STILL IN CAR (LATE 1972 240z)
Lynton replied to selaga's topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
A 72' 240Z eh! I would hold your motor and g/box and not sell them, your future buyer for a car like yours will want the originality, the car will be worth more if all original, not many early 240Z's left, just my 2 cents worth. Lynton -
There is a very simple answer to your dilemma of a daily driver. Go out and buy a really good 280ZX, space, good ride, power steering, windows, detachable targa roof for queensland sun, electric mirrors, electronic ignition, fuel injected L28 makes driving in Brissy simple, disc brakes front and rear, back seat for the laptop and the dog, airconditioning, a truly understated sibling of the Zed family, look out for rust though but absolutely unbeatable value for money, then later when your ready, pull it all down and transplant into your 260Z or because the car will grow on you from day one you will wonder why they are so cheap.........fantastic bang for your buck and I reckon you will be converted to a 280zx driver!! I purchased my first 260Z new in 1975 and they were selling like hot cakes for the full retail price and you took what arrived off the ship or you went to the bottom of the list and waited for another 6 months for the next shipment to arrive at an increased retail price although usually included some dealer aftermarket accessories like vinyl roofs, mags (they had hub caps then), front and rear spoilers, side protector strips or stripes, mudflaps, headlight covers & rear window louvres, lambswool seat covers, protector carpets, chrome front nudge bar, depending on your own negotiation and the dealer allocation of cars. As the car became more expensive during those inflationary years and an oil crisis, even back then, the cars popularity dropped off especially the 260Z 2 seater Coupe young enthusiast could no longer afford it but the 260Z 2+2 was in high demand more like owning a BMW coupe in todays prestige world and were driven mainly by business executives and/or wifes on company leases and were then turned over into the used car market after a couple of years, very few 2+2's were used around the track most were image cars garaged or used for shopping.

Hi Zgirl, welcome to the world of Zeds, a 2+2 is a very useful form of Zed travel and the really good thing about them is that if you can get your hands on a nice unmolested car they are usually in better nick and have been better looked after than the 2 seaters, most will come with air-cond and rear quarter windows that open for fresh air which will suit the dogs you have, the bad things are large opening doors that hit other vehicles if you are careless, heavy steering and the 74/75 models are the pre full pollution models that breath a bit better than the later 260Z's but any mods on these cars if you are looking for some are 240Z carbies, electronic dizzy & coil and extractors then you will have a really great 2+2!! I actually saw the green car in Tasmania at Symmons Plains Race Track (not racing it the car was there to try and sell it) when I was down there doing a rendition of the Targa Tasmania with the NDSOC before he took it upto Canberra, apart from the the mag wheels not being original it was a really clean car as I remember and I would say a good purchase. As far as price in concerned don't be surprised if S30 Zeds are all around $20k soon they are currently the cheapest and best classic you can buy bang for buck! Lynton

Well I am originally from Melbourne now living in Queensland, I rate that little state down south as the Zed Capital of Australia!!!!! I almost salivate when I see just one other Zed on the road up here. You can keep some of the people happy some of the time but not all of the people all of the time. Go VicZcar!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lynton

It should have the badge (BW Automatic) Borg Warner Automatic, my opinion of value is that it is still cheap if you compare it to a Sprite/MG/Triumph but expensive if you compare it to a 280ZX or a Z31/Z32 for the price though you have to expect a good driveable car all in tack and only cosmetic upgrading required. I am in the process of having now removed my flat tops and std exhaust manifold. I am about to replace the 260z fuel rail with a 240z fuel rail, do I still retain the carbon cannister? (260Z fuel rail has three pipes the 240z fuel rail has two pipes) What happens with all the vacuum lines? What do I do with the water pipes at the back of the motor just plug them? This was a stock standard 260Z with all the pollution stuff on it and water and air pipes running everywhere? Lynton
-
Yeah I run flat tops, but I have decided to pull them off, just done that, I have pulled off the standard dizzy, now I am going to put 240Z carbies on, extractors and electronic dizzy off a 280ZX, replace the coil, and replace exhaust pipe, so far I have lots of vacuum lines running to nowhere, a water system that's a bit cruddy, water pipes leading to nowhere, two broken studs (I am going to have to drill out got any good ideas,) I think I shall replace thermostat and housing while I am at it, Then I will be I hope, a happy boy??? I recently drove my stock 77' 260z only when cruizing breaks down like someone has attached a caravan on the back of it, it will struggle to hold 100kmh flat out running like there is an electrical or mechanical or fuel problem the car goes from smooth running to almost like not on six cylinders lacking clean power it is choked up and bogged down. I have checked plugs and cleaned, no water in the oil in case of blown head gasket, idles ok, drives through the gears ok, checked distributor points, checked coil and cleaned contacts, no water loss in radiator. I can hear the fuel pump running on start up, I have not changed the fuel filter? Petrol does not have water in it. Questions, does anyone know what the symptoms are if the distributor is no good? Does anyone know what the symptoms are if the flat top Hitachi carburettors are finally breaking down. The car does not blow smoke except on choke on start up for a moment or two. Anyone got any ideas where to investigate or re investigate from here, Lynton

My 77' 260Z 2+2 blue came with original white interior and black carpets. 1976 I think was when carpet was introduced on the transmission tunnel and the bonnet vents and mag wheels came in. I cannot remember the interior color combination you have with the blue outside and cream inside with that color carpet? (Is that original blue on the outside?) Even my original 75' 2 seater had white inside and black carpets and vinyl on the transmission tunnel. Most butterscotch color carpets came with Bronze and Green outside. Lynton

Well this is a good color chart for ID http://zhome.com/History/ZColorGallary/index.html Lynton

My 2+2 has air but it is a 77' and as I recall in the early 260z 74/75' without aircond the off position on the heater control is the aircond position. I recall early coupes never had aircond it was only in the 2+2 until about late 76/77/78 and only in some coupes. I don't think you could run heat and air together it was either one or the other?? My 2+2 sits on A/c as the first port of call then vent/heat/bi-level/recirc/defrost and when the fan is on it needs to be on about 3rd speed to feel the effects. I had mine retro gassed and that has worked well. The vacuum system is weak and has a vacuum control under the bonnet I think Zworks (Rob) knows how to bypass when they play up but then the settings aren't always what they say!! Since I moved to Qld I don't use the heater much and now it doesn't work at all but the air is beautiful and a must up here. Lynton
