  1. Hi there, To me it sounds as though your convinced it's not a great car just based on the description you have given. The best way to evaluate a vehicle over the net is by pictures they often say a thousand words. I'd be wary of a car with a recent respray as it sounds from the description like it was a quick fix up and sell job. Hence the rust spots that are evident and coming back. Auto's can be a pain in the butt to convert simply because it can be hard to source all the manual gear if you don't know where to look. Given the fact that 2+2's in Auto can be found quite often. I would narrow my search for an original vehicle with original paint and minimal rust. I would be looking at one with only a couple of owners and a known history. Rust and bodywork is the biggest expense on these cars and all other parts are relatively easy to aquire. 260z's are easier to source items such as consoles and dashboards in good condition and often not that expensive. There was a nice looking 2+2 in sky blue on ebay a little while ago. Went for $3k with minimal rust in the spare wheel well. There are cars out there you just have to be patient. Personally from my experience I would avoid this car and keep looking. The right car will eventually show up and you will be very glad you waited. places to check often. www.tradingpost.com.au www.ebay.com.au www.ozdat.com www.ndsoc.com.au Good luck!

Interior looks nice what seats are those?
  3. Hi Jimbo, are you able to PM or email me Daniel Moore's contact details? I would like to speak to him at some stage.
  4. Very difficult decision to make however things I like about the L28 are as follows. Period authentic. Naturally Aspired. Sound of the straight 6. Mechanical simplicity and reliability. Parts are easily available and interchangable with junkyard parts. No engineering involved. Looks great in the engine bay especially with triples. No messy wiring or EFI gear hanging around. In general retains more resale value. However all those things are nice, but it's not the cheapest way to go. To build such an engine like those videos cost the guy like $10,000 US it's probably going to cost me around the same for my Z and my stroker. I guess that's why I'm still trying to decide if I should go turbo or stroked L28 N/A.
  5. Do your headlights just switch off for a second between going to high and low beam? That's what mine does too.
  6. Thought this might help. http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/cam/index.htm Contains info on standard cam specs as well as Schneider cams.
  7. If it works out cheaper then sure, I'm all for it. Probably in another month's time though.
  8. That's a great idea, I have always personally hated car bras I thought they look tacky at the best of times especially on a Z. Seems like a neccessary evil though when it comes to a classic car that has been repainted. This is the perfect solution. I might move this topic to the body work thread though.

    g-nose

Yes it is pricey, I'm still considering doing it. Almost seems a shame to have the Flares and fender mirrors but no Gnose. There is currently one on ebay for sale in Australia, Victoria even (Gnose) I'm talking about. Take a look it's $200 at the moment, looks to be alright quality depends what look you want though. Bonnet hinges are at least $300 US for OEM ones. I was going to buy some but they never reached reserve. I only know of a couple of people in Australia who might have some you could get copies of.
  10. Mr C can we get contact details for this Watanabe importer in Australia? I'm looking at the set on Ebay but if I can get them for $2200 shipped that would be awesome.

    g-nose

I have never bought a Gnose through Zshop/Zspares I've seen them though. My opinion is that if your going to use it on a track car it's fine but if your looking for the authentic ZG HS30-H look the only place to get a good one is from Japan. The most accurate kit with Flares, Headlight Covers, Upper and Lower section and bonnet hinges will probably set you back $6000. So it really just depends on how authentic a look you want. Personally I've never liked any of the fibreglass copies as much and it gives most people a bad perspective on what was a great addition to the styling of the Z  .
  12. Lambs is correct, I believe the 260z (E88) head and possibly late 73 240z E88 was open instead of closed chamber design and therefore less desireable.
  13. Try GIO I get my car covered for $300 full comp with GIO. I have told them about wheels, exhaust. However I have to inform them about the seats installed recently. I have an agreed value of $10,000. Give them a call, I have my optioned for regular driving to Uni however I only use the car on weekends now anyway.
  14. It depends on the quality of the seals I guess. You can get genuine nissan ones which will cost a packet but will no doubt have the best fit or you can try some generic ones. I tend to use Ebay alot and notice some regular sellers who can usually get alot of NOS parts. For me it just isn't worth trying to hunt parts through a Nissan Dealer. http://www.datsunrestore.com/ http://www.motorsportauto.com/ try those.
  15. I'm up for anything, any excuse to get the Z out for a blast and a squirt
  16. No problems with the early 280zx's after all we share alot of the mechanicals. I guess there are a few reasons we are a S30 Club and one of the most important is that we don't want to encroach on the NDSOC territory. Sulio and I also felt that more support was needed for early Z owners in Australia. So far I am happy with the results we have members from all over Australia and we seem to be the Z site for Australian Z owners which is great. I don't want to turn away anyone who has an interest in early Z's. The more the merrier.
  17. Hi mate, thanks for coming down Sulio and I are sorry for being late arn't we Sulio? LOL. I should have replied earlier to say I would be interested in a cruise just got caught up with other things. I'm sure others would be interested but may not have seen the post yet. If we get something cemented I'll post a group email. Would be good to see you Dave if you can make it, I'd really like to check out your Turbo L28.
  18. The Work Meister SSR Professors I think they are. They are only made in single or 2 piece I think. Not the 3 piece like I would like. I also would like to use a rim nobody has used yet if I go for anything other than Watanabe's. ROH have some nice ones and they are 3 piece wheels. Decisions Decisions but at the end of the day you know you can't go wrong with Wats and especially if you are going with Fender Mirrors .
  19. or this one aswell http://www.lateral-g.org/distad/
  20. C'mon Sulio that's a pretty average photoshop job LMAO  . I can see the lines where you cut it, you need to learn the clone stamp more It doesn't look too bad but I think the Z is a bad base for a spider conversion. I'd rather buy a Fairlady Roadster or an old corvette like this one http://www.lateral-g.net/mcdonald/69b.jpg
  21. Hmmm it's a strange thing, you would think after owning a Z for several years you would know the look you want but I'm still not sure . I found these on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-RS-WATANABE-TYPE-R-16-RIMS-WHEELS-240Z-260Z-NEW_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43956QQitemZ8040364532QQrdZ1 I have been thinking of bidding since I saw them 5 days ago. I can't force myself to do it yet, I asked the seller if he can get more it appears he can and can get them in any size and offset. They will work out to about $2700 AUD landed to your door in 10 days. I thought that was a good deal but Mr C has a very good deal going. I might be able to get a good deal through Simmons and part of me wants 3 piece wheels. I'm thinking of FR17's with the same spec as Sulio's wheels and NZEDER (Mike) 16x8.5 -6 and 16x9.5 -19 I'm not sure what deal I can get, they may be becoming a MelbourneIT customer and we might end up doing some work for them so I am going to get a quote. When it all comes down to it, the decision is do I want the classic JDM style with Wat's or a modern looking ZG with modern wheels. If I get the Wat's I might just have to do the Gnose too. We will see. Evan wat's for $2200 AUD is a bargain grab em'
  22. http://www.doublegutshot.net/z.wmv This video was good fun enjoy. It's about 30mb and features a 260z with an SR20DET engine installed .
