Hey Sulio yeah I remember seeing it, I did like the way it looked and I also liked Costa's grille on his silver Z. I still really like the mesh grille it would really work with the ZG flares for obvious reasons. I'll have to speak to you about getting a few items chromed up. I'd like to slap my rear bumper on and chrome it up. Anyway I'll speak to you about that soon.

In all honesty I agree with Lambs here, having high compression is ok but really to get any benefit from a motor you need to make it breathe more. I like the N42 heads myself the P90 really needs work to get a higher CR.

I have always wanted a mesh style Fairlady S30 grille for my 240z. However I also like the standard grille chromed. So what does everyone like for the front end treatment?

I just found this last night and I think it's great. http://www.betamotorsports.com/products/EMIPlates.html Not cutting things up... He's also got these http://www.betamotorsports.com/products/240StrutKit.html Costly maybe he can do discount for a kit and a group buy . Gavin pokes Sulio in the ribs probably different struts than the Tokico's to suit a standard 240z though.

I have spoken to Sandor he's pretty keen to see some Zeds so I think he'll be happy to make a trip down this way. There apparently very rare on his side of the world. I think your right though Sulio it is a long dullish drive and no aircon doesn't help. So if anyone has any ideas feel free to add them. Any suggestions at all....

Hi Alex, I think I've current set the board not to allow you to change your username however if you really want to change it I can see what I can do for you.

Hi Evan, a cheaper option is to ask Len Brennan to modify the stock ones for you. He rebuilds them and turns them into rally suitable shocks and just uses firmer springs. He showed me his time sheets from Targa the only cars quicker were a 7ltr Race prepared mustang and he was quicker than some of the 911's and some 911s were just a tad faster than him. If I was in the same position again I'd probably give him a try http://www.len-brennan.com.au/ Definately worth a try..

So nobody else is interested in a cruise and drive? Is it too far? I'll speak to Sandor and see what else we can come up with. Cheers Gavin.

I was looking at buying a Fairlady S30 style front grille and the guy has a gallery of stuff he supplies here: http://community.webshots.com/album/69798402ZmDxqe/4 I thought this might help out others in the future, rear tail lights are out of stock. Same with heater consoles.

Looks like a good job there doing there Warren I'll be very interested in how well everything lines up once on the car. Evan I know it can be depressing to look at rust on your car, but perhaps do as I am and attend to the rest of the car first. It's way to easy to scratch paint work especially when your working in and around a car. Fix up the interior and mechanical things first then attend to the body work last. Rust adds character .

Hi everyone I just got an email from Sandor of the Hungary Z car club. He is in Australia and keen to meet up to see some nice early zeds. Here is the email he sent me.

The blanks are a good idea, I'd like to chrome mine and paint the outers black. The originals were chrome weren't they?

The RB30 is a good motor but IMHO not a good choice for a Z unless your planning on turbo charging. As Ben said they are a heavier motor and all the extra fabrication work and engineering to be done is not really worthwhile. The money would definately be better spent on an L28 in port work and a different camshaft profile. The stock SU's are good for engines up to about 280HP. I don't like the standard ZX EFI mainly because I think it's messy and you need to spend $$$ on it to improve it. It's also a little dated these days compared with modern systems and OEM parts for it can be expensive. The main advantage of an RB30E over and L28E is the extra 200cc and the crossflow head which in general allows for better port work to be done but not always. I'm sure others would like to chime in.

What minimal size wheels would fill out ZG flares?
gav240z replied to Azon's topic in General Discussions
This is what www.sr240z.com is running: WHEELS/TIRES: `Watanabe R-Type 16x9 w/ -13 offset (Front) `Watanabe R-Type 16x9.5 w/ -19 offset (Rear) `Yokohama AVS ES100 225/45/16 all around I believe Sulio used this as a guide for his combination the only difference being that he went to 17" Rim for better tyre selection. -
The flares look like a reproduction of the ZG style. I've seen various replica's before and I am of the opinion that a good quality set comes from Japan or from originals from Japan. I know that Ash one of our members is going to be making moulds for them shortly not sure on price yet. $275 is not bad but I think don't know how good a fitament they will be.

Parts interchangable between the 240z and 260z 2+2?
gav240z replied to Azon's topic in General Discussions
We should build a list of parts that can be interchanged between models so next time any of us visit a wrecking yard we know what we can take with us. If we come up with a good list I'll make the post a sticky item so that it always appears at the top. I know that the door handles are the same on a 1600. I believe the 2+2 rear lights are the same just the surrounding panels are slightly longer. -
Good question in all honesty I'm not sure if the ZG flares or any overfenders for the Zed are legal. I'm fairly certain it shouldn't be a problem unless you were using spacers which technically arn't legal from my understanding. I believe it is said that a wheel must bolt directly to the hub. I guess any modification to the wheel arch area should technically be approved by an engineer. I was also curious about the S30 style fender mirrors, however it seems that a few early zeds came into the country with the fender mirrors and I believe it could pass as legal. The Vicroads website is pretty good when it comes to finding this information have a dig around and see what you can come up with.

That's a good idea Warren infact I have saved some Ebay sellers who are often selling bits and pieces like this and I should probably post a list of them so people can buy bits off them. For example one user often sells ZX Turbo parts and LD28 crankshafts, another is very good for interior bits and pieces etc.. Your right though after freight and conversion of the dollar the price does jump up and saving on shipping would be very helpful.
-
Hi Jimbo tried to fix your link but couldn't get it to work. It might be easier to tell us what page it's on?
-
Hey Warren thanks, yeah I think I got a good deal and the seller seems reasonable he's looking into prices for shipping trying to get me a good deal on that. I've been up in the air for ages I wanted to have F.I Throttle Boddies but I think this will be fine for now. I was also considering turbo recently but I just love the sound of triples and the L-series. Your the opposite of me, here I am thinking I should be fixing the body work but I think I'll leave it until last, build the motor and fix the interior up then finally touch up the body. Ebay is really good for finding those little bits I need like bits of rubber for stopping the bonnet on close and things like that so I'm going to slowly collect all that stuff so by the time the body work comes around I'll be able to put those bits on and not have to worry about those bits of paint that come off after you've painted it. Ahh the joys!

Hi Lurch, I don't think there really bashing the 2+2's more just discussing the reason why so many 2+2's are here as oppose to the 260z 2 seaters. A 260z 2+2 is still a Zed more so than a S130 or Z31 in my opinion, I used to own a 2+2 260z aswell and so did Sulio .

Hi Sulio, I think I got them at a bit of a bargain since I will be getting the intake manifold, all 3 carbs linkages etc.. They will no doubt probably need custom jetting, venturi's, chokes the works to run on my Z unless the current owner has a very similar engine set up. I still haven't heard from him since I won the auction I think he is on holiday though and I'm not in a hurry to part with my money just yet  . I was considering these carbs but they are weber: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-Datsun-240z-260z-280z-Triple-Weber-DCOE-Carb-Set_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ10076QQitemZ4598675655QQrdZ1 I personally prefer Mikuni over weber just from what I've read and I think Mikuni are just a bit better made sort of like the Hitachi SU's vs the British SU's. The Mikuni's don't have the velocity stacks instead it has those airfilters however if they air filters don't have some form of velocity stack underneath it will be one of the first things to go. I do want that 6 trumpets lined up look anyway  This place in the US sell Mikuni gear http://www.wolfcreekracing.com/classified.htm however they seem to be selling a pair for $1000+ and that doesn't include the manifold to suit the L6. So all in all I think I got a good price but have to wait for shipping costs which I don't think should be toooo expensive. I also settled on 44PHH's because 50's are so rare and you can bore out the 44's for the stroker .
