  1. I can't confirm yet but maybe Friday morning in my dented Z .
  2. Nice pictures the Simmons look fantastic. I guess these pics reinforce the fact that you don't need flares to be tough! . Sulio stop photoshopping cars it makes young car enthusiasts feel insecure about their car bodies .
  3. You can get a compression tester relatively cheap. Basically you just take the distributor cap off and turn the motor. I can't recall if it's better to remove the spark plugs in all cylinders or not. If you get different readings across the cylinders you have a compression issue. It's also good to check what colour your spark plugs are, if they are oily then you have either bad compression caused by bad oil rings or your valve stem seals are hardened and leaking.
  4. Yeah could be, L-series engines are generally pretty sturdy. What carbs are you running? The Flat Top SU's generally don't help much mainly because of all the anti pollution gear attached to them and the fact they are 30 years old and probably not recently reconditioned. Your distributor might also be playing a part. There are many mods to give the Z a bit more kick. It just depends on what you have to start with. Have you done a compression test? I'd start there.
  5. Here are two images. Didn't think you would need anymore than this.
  6. Funny you should ask I have a set that I'm considering selling. I got them made up by Zr240 (Ash) who makes fibreglass parts for Zeds at times and on request. They are a little rough around the edges and would need some work to make them perfect, basically trimming and sanding for prep. I can't recall how much I paid for them now but would be asking about $250 for all 4. I'll get a picture of them if you like. I was going to list them here or on Ebay but if you want this set I'm happy to sell them to you. Cheers, Gavin.
  7. I know of a couple of competent engine builders it depends on what you need done really. $2k won't get you too far in terms of huge performance gains. Although the right person will be able to get you as much bang for buck as possible. My stroker is engine is probably already around the $3,000 mark maybe a bit more and I haven't even done porting and bought gaskets or alot of other things including buying pistons etc. I have heard of a fellow by the name of Daniel Moore unfortuantely don't have his contact details handy. There is also Errol who used to run datrats.com but his website is down as he closed down his business to my knowledge. I'm sure one of our members has their contact details though. I know one other fellow but not sure if he's in a position to do rebuilds at the moment.
  8. Hi Rosco, I'd say the heater was disconnected because the heater tap or heater core was leaking. Any how I'm sure someone will have an image that may help, if not I'll go into the garage and get what you need or you can check out our gallery. If you look under the drivers footwell you will see where the hoses need to go.
  9. I can't say I like it, I'll wait to see the final product but for me it's a no no as it is. It just doesn't look like a performance car, it looks like a Mazda 3.
  10. Hey guys, got my 240z model car today. I was so excited I blogged about it . Check out the pics. http://datsun-240z-blog.viczcar.com/datsun-240z-model-car-with-sr20dett-engine-swap.html
  11. Nuts? Nah I don't think so. Especially when I've seen him get that price for them. Supply and demand, supply and demand my friend. I've seen second hand ones go for up to $250 US. Not sure how easy it is to get a set. Mind you I have seen cheaper, usually about $250 US is what they are listed for.
  12. Hi everyone, need some advice. I'm broke (arn't we all?) and rego is overdue. I'm considering going overseas soon and don't want to fork out $400+ (goes up every year) for registration. I only drive the car on weekends if that and to places of repair anyway. So here I am thinking of getting CH plates. However after talking with Sulio (toecutter) there are some requirements such as a RW check. Now I know there are a few items which it would get picked up on. Mainly rear brakes don't adjust correctly. I'm also aware that you need to belong to a club. So what does anyone in the know recommend? CHS30Z? that would be cool.
  13. I'm with GIO I have vintage insurance and agreed value with option to salvage. I've got mine insured for $12,000 possibly more can't recall now. I think I should bump it up though. I told them about the exhaust system, recaro's and superlites. They didn't mind about any of that. As long as your car is in good condition and doesn't have massive rust or damage.
  14. Hi there, the L24E was also found in a Nissan Skyline R30 and I would imagine the same fuel pump would work with your car. I'm fairly certain the wiring connectors would be the same also, if I know Nissan. However don't take it as gospel. I think you should find the output requirement for the pump and possibly look at an aftermarket item. I'm sure there are plenty of vendors in the US to get such an item from. Is there any reason why you can't get another maxima fuel pump from a wrecking yard? Perhaps you can rebuild you existing pump? I'd even look to see if a 280zx non-turbo pump would be suitable. I'm sure there isn't much difference. Hope that helps.
  15. Hey guys, just got sent this link and thought the rest of you might enjoy it. Definately well rendered and who can argue with Watanabe wheels, flares and a Triple Mikuni Turbo L28 with HKS Surge Tank . http://www.gametrailers.com/e3_2k5_ps3.php?p=&letter=&start=150 Enjoy!
  16. I had an issue with a centre console I bought on Ebay. Guy told me he sent via ship it took good part of 3-4 months to arrive. Came out of the blue one day was really suprised cause I thought he had ripped me off, but it arrived perfectly. It was too late to leave any feedback on Ebay for him that's how long it had been.
  17. It gets better you can collect the whole set . Someone hide my CC before I blow my engine budget on these things w00t!!! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1972-DATSUN-240Z-1-24-JADA-OPTION-D-RED-BLACK-HOOD_W0QQitemZ280094487216QQcategoryZ47194QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1972-DATSUN-240Z-1-24-JADA-OPTION-D-WHITE-CUSTOM-WHEEL_W0QQitemZ280094485132QQcategoryZ47194QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1972-DATSUN-240Z-1-24-JADA-OPTION-D-BLACK-CUSTOM-WHEEL_W0QQitemZ280094485656QQcategoryZ47194QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1972-DATSUN-240Z-1-24-JADA-OPTION-D-RED-CUSTOM-WHEEL_W0QQitemZ280094486514QQcategoryZ47194QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1972-DATSUN-240Z-1-24-JADA-OPTION-D-ORANGE-BLACK-HOOD_W0QQitemZ280094487570QQcategoryZ47194QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  18. Hey guys, saw this on Ebay and had to buy it. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160096494224 It looks like it's modelled on Sato San's White Z from Japan. Definately full of Datsun Goodness  .
  19. I don't know of anyone that provides off the shelf stuff for S30's. There are some people who offer kits which usually involve the ability to upgrade brakes & provide you with coilovers. What is usually involved is that you need to cut the spring perch off the existing strut and replace it with a tack welded perch for the coil overs. If your after a kit then I'm sure some people on the forums will have various contacts who can look after you. It's generally a custom job though so not really an off the shelf product. You may find this sort of thing in Japan however and I've seen various catalogue's that offer this sort of thing. If you really want something like this which would involve $$$ speak to Eiji at www.datsunspirit.com Cheers
  20. Love those gauges George. Are they Autometer? Do you know how difficult they are to set up?
  21. Zcar parts arn't getting any cheaper and I don't imagine our Zcars themselves are either. I guess someone really wanted an NOS centre console for their restoration. I'm happy with a good second hand one I can restore myself. I'd hate to crack an NOS console for the price they go for.
  22. There are some common swaps available however the general consensus seems to be that Mazda MX5 seats are very close in terms of rail dimmensions and are almost a bolt in swap. I put some recaro's in mine with a bit of mucking about. The trick is to find seats that arn't too wide at the top as you may have slight clearance issues with the doors.

    N42 fit my....

That question is kinda like "how long is a piece of string". There is no hard and fast simple rule. Do you have an L26 block? There were two types of E88 head that I'm aware of. The earlier 240z's had a closed chamber design more like the earlier E31 head. The later 260z E88 was an open chamber design (less compression for emission control reasons). To fit an N42 head to an L26 block you may need to notch the cylinder bores to accommodate for the larger valves. To do this would be more effort than sourcing an L28 block with an L28 head already. The performance gains from such a swap are quite minimal really except for perhaps the extra displacement and more compression. I think while you have it running ok, leave engine heads where they are. If you want acquire an L28 block and head. Do some work to it while it's out of the car and then slot it in for more fun!
