  1. Hi guys, Came across this website http://www.zccjdm.com/catalog.php/azcarbum/pg9887 that has some luxury parts for your Zcar (not sure how else to put it). For the serious Zcar performance guru.
  2. Hi guys, I can't make it down, mainly cause I'm in Melbourne, however can someone take plenty of photo's so we can report on the weekend on the site? It would also be good to upload the images to the gallery . Cheers
  3. I understand what you are saying Mike but since when is owning a Zcar about how much money it's worth? Zcars seems to lag behind many other Aussie muscle cars of the same era. Yeah I agree it's difficult to find the right balance when it comes to the interior in a Z. Mainly because of the centre console, the globe box, the heater facia and the fact that original ones are so damn expensive now as NOS. I think white is definately a loud colour and not everyone's taste as Koopa said it's difficult to keep clean also. It also depends on the exterior colour of the car. I'd personally like a Biscuit look like many Ferrari's have with the red paint and a burgundy (dark) red with a silver car. The darker red would look more balanced with the black heater panel and console.
  4. That is an awesome dash, it would look perfect in a burgundy red with white stiching mmmmmmmm very sexy indeed. Definately has a supercarish feel, just add white gauges.
  5. Believe it or not the actual guards on a 2+2 and 2 seater are exactly the same. I found this out because a friend of mine was repairing his 2 seater 240z's guards and cut out some 2+2 ones. So having said that Flares should work just the same, although to me the flares look kinda odd on a 2+2. I guess because they were never officially released on a 2+2. There was a prototype of a 2+2 that was to have a Gnose and Flares but it never made it to production.
  6. The L28 is a better motor overall for a few reasons. First and foremost engine head and combustion chamber design. The L28 heads tends to have larger ports which breathe better than the E88. However there were two versions of E88 the earlier 240z one and the later 260z one. The 260z one had an open chamber where as the earlier 240z one had a peanut high quench design giving higher compression. It's far easier to switch to an L28 for the added benefit of the larger displacement and the better cylinder head design. Generally speaking other benefits on an L28 motor are electronic distributor and fuel injection although most opt to go for 240z carbs with good reason. At the end of the day it all depends on what you would like to do. You could always stick an earlier 240z head on the L26 block and see how that goes, but you would need to check clearances with the stroked block of the L26. It all comes down to how much work your doing to the motor and where you want to go. It is far cheaper to start with an L28. I'd recommend the N42 head and block combo for a naturally aspired set up myself.
  7. Hi Mick, When it's ready we can do a feature on it if you like?
  8. Hi guys, Much like my model differences posting I'd also like to do an article on getting more out of the L-series engine for your Z. An article along the lines of "I'm on a budget, what can I do to extract more power from my engine?" kind of thing. With all the different combinations of L-series there are some really good combinations and anyone who can share best bang for buck info will help. I myself have read a few books on the L-series engine so have a good idea but would really appreciate community input.
  9. Hi guys, I'd like to put together an informative article on the different years of Zcars but I'd really like to include reference pictures. So far I know of differences in the following Zcars. First 500 240z's from 1970 - 71 (mid). (also known as series I) 71-72 240z (also known as series II) 73 240z (minor changes from 72) 74 260z (very similar to 73 240z - changes to tail lights & dashboard). 74-75 260z (2 Seater) 74-75 260z 2+2 (obvious change and other minor) 76-77 260z (2 Seater) Series II 260z (similar to US 280z) 76-77 260z 2+2 Series II 260z (similar to US 280z) I really need reference photo's from stock cars or at least close to stock vehicles. This will help clear up some confusion and differences between different models.
  10. Hi Steve early 240z seats did have a dial shape object on the side and were not very reclinable. I believe they had minor lumbar adjustment but it's been so long since I've seen one I forget. Early 240z seats also had horizontal striping in the vinyl, while later 260z had vertical stripes. I also believe the earlier seats graining was slightly different if you were to be 100% picky.
  11. Mikuni carbs are worth a fair amount of money provided they are in good working order. I'm not sure what they are worth in Canadian dollars but I paid about $1,500 AU for mine all up (that included shipping from the US to AUS and import tax). Mine are a set of Mikuni 44's. The early Solex carbs are worth even more because they were listed as an part of the performance catalogue. I'm not sure what the engine is worth but from the description above it sounds like a bit of coin has been put into it. If it has aftermarket pistons and rods I'd say some good money has been spent on it. Do you know what kind of power it's producing? If it's had alot of port work done and other internal mods it may be worth what they are saying. http://wolfcreekracing.com/ lists lots of performance bits and pieces might be worth checking out, although the website is rubbish.
  12. Sam I think you are misreading the manual. The tail light lenses themselves are glued into the plastic housing and removing them is difficult and requires patience and care. Removing the tail lights themselves is actually rather straight forward as maddos above has mentioned. You just remove the rear interior panel and you should be able to see bolts to remove the "housing". 2+2 housings and tail lights are the same, it is the rear exterior panel on the 2+2 that is slightly wider and therefore different. I hope this makes sense.
  13. This topic has been moved to SU Carbuerettors. [iurl]http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=1564.0[/iurl]
  14. Funny about that, I don't blame you either. I have heard that Steve Newing at Speed Technology is good. http://www.efihardware.com/ I have also heard that Daniel Moore is another good Z mechanic but I don't have his contact details handy. Tuning SU's shouldn't be too difficult provided they are in good condition. That really is the key.
  15. Also just to let you know there is a club in Canada you might want to check out. http://www.atlanticz.ca/ However there site appears to be down currently.
  16. Your electrical gremlin sounds familiar I think there is a relay of somesort or a fusible link that causes this problem. It could also be the battery but if you are getting a solid 12V it should be ok. It would be interesting to see pictures of your car, feel free to post them.
  17. How do you mean George? The youtube videos are embedded into the page? Do you have the flash plugin installed?
  18. From an economical point of view yes it's expensive to do anything with the L-series, but just listen to when he gives the Green machine a rev . I am considering an engine swap into my Z over the stroker but I am hoping some time travelling with give me a clearer mind set. As Warren and others have said, since when has building a Z been about following budgets lol. There are some other FI kits on the market. I know that http://www.efihardware.com/ has a cool looking kit too.
  19. Hi everyone, I found this article a while ago and thought it was worth sharing. http://www.geocities.com/bry593/coilover/coilover.htm Not sure how up to date it is, but he certainly makes it look easy.
  20. Hey everyone, I just came across this and it looks pretty cool. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240z-510-260z-Performance-EFI-SU-Throttle-Bodies_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33558QQihZ019QQitemZ290149325010QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW http://www.extrudabody.com/ Definately a cool looking product, I'd be interested in how it performs. There's some videos too on the product pages. http://www.extrudabody.com/TechInfo/Installations.html
  21. I never evaluate a car based on a description. I'd need to see photo's myself and possibly receipts for work done and by whom. At the moment I have disabled attachments since we are moving servers and I don't want to have to keep track of all the new images that get uploaded. Until then just upload to photobucket or similar and place a link. Sorry for the inconvenience but I'm trying to reduce our recent downtimes.
  22. I know that some local interior reupholsterer's can sometimes get a very close match in pattern. It's worth taking a sample of the old ones in and seeing what they can come up with. There is a guy in Richmond (Melbourne) not sure exactly where I think near Richmond train station, he looks after some exotic equipment and I think might be able to help.
  23. Perhaps try Eiji at www.datsunspirit.com mention you found him through Viczcar.com he might give you a discount. I know he can get those Vinyl's and he usually charges a reasonable price given the quality of parts he can get.
  24. C'mon guys where's your sense of adventure. I've considered going with a white skinned dash. I reakon it would look good. I'm not sure about the blue vinyls though and I think it will be hard to keep clean. It also depends on the exterior colour of your car if you have a blue, red zed I think a white interior is nice but if it's a darker colour maybe not. If in your head it looks good, go for it I have had ideas before in my head and I have visualised the concept using photoshop. If everyone did the same thing we'd all be boring. Me myself I am considering going with a nice Silver exterior colour on my Z since it was Silver from the factory and skinning my dash in a deep red or burgundy colour with some nice white face gauges. I'll probably reskin my Recaro's to match also in a nice leather. Of course at this stage I don't have the cash put aside for it but I think it would be a really nice look and not too playboy. Simon Degroot went with a lighter coloured interior, not a white skinned dash but lighter seats and carpets. http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/A_2995/article.html Perhaps consider something along those lines?
  25. 240z or 260z console? Or is this one of those lid things like what Sulio installed in his Z?
