Interested to know what problems you had since I was thinking about this conversion. Although I very much want to build an L28. I am a complete novice in terms of engineering rules so would like to know the issues involved?
-
From memory the later 2+2's and possibly 2 seater 260z's had a seatbelt detector. What I mean is that if you are sitting in the seat and you don't have your belt connected a warning light would flash at you in the centre console. Have you checked to see if its on the passenger side also? Picture might help.

Hi Ben the link is in the post previous listed but here is a direct link to the questionaire. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1456.0;attach=1422 Let me know if you have any problems with it. Its good to hear we will be featuring the car. Oh and I can imagine spending 10k easy on such a motor. Especially since I am building an L31 for my Z myself. As you say its all the little unaccounted for expenses. It must be a blast to drive though? Cheers,

Lurch it would be great to put all these pics in the gallery section of the site. How big are they compressed like they are now? Feel free to email or PM me anyway.

Hi Ben, I have to ask, can we feature the car on this site? We would love to have another Aussie car featured on the site. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,1456.0.html Cheers, Gavin.

Just wondering should this list really be sticky?
-
Welcome to the forum. That's a nice Z you have. Do you know if there are many in the Philippines?
-
Hi mate looks awesome. Wish I was there, oh well when I get back from OS I'll definitely have come along. The bus is looking good Lurch!
-
Admitting there is a problem is the first step . Don't worry we have formed a support group here at Viczcar.com - Now Auszcar.com to help those with the addicition. We don't guarantee results - that's entirely up to you . Welcome!

Guys I'm sorry to say but I'll lock the topic as it is. If you wish to offer your car for sale please get in contact with Andrew, his contact details are listed in the thread above. He has indicated that he would not like to get involved with further discussions other than via phone and therefore locking the thread should not be a problem. For the record Andrew did make a donation. Donations cover hosting costs at this stage and by no means make me rich . Well not yet anyway. Finally Andrew the quality of car you are after is few and far between. Most would change hands privately (as it looks you are trying to arrange). George is also correct in that top cars and highly collectable cars go under the hammer in Japan. If you wish to have some help finding an ultra rare 432, 432r (PS30 or PS30B) or even a 240zg (HS30-H) I can put you in contact with a fellow who may be able to help you acquire such a car. A 432 or 432r in Australia would definately be a first to my knowledge. I'm sorry to lock the thread, but I really see that there's not much else to add. If anyone wants to take up anything privately with me please feel free to contact me. You have my contact details .

Haha George, Welcome to the club tbscobraZ do you own a Z yet? Or looking to buy?

240Z & 260Z Wheel/Tyre Options, Offset, Backspace
gav240z replied to Toecutter's topic in Wheels and Tyres
I love the Black wheels with the orange paint. So early 70's and so suitable to the 240z. Funny thing is I used to dislike black rims, now I absolutely love them. -

You sound like a woman who has to have that new set of shoes. I do agree with you though, they look wicked and I was eye balling that picture above. Best part is the amount of dish you get with no flares. Since I'm not yet ready to commit to cutting my Z's guards this would be perfect. Especially perfect because they have the Watanabe style without the price tag. Funny thing is I read they are $750 in the US that's only €500 Euro . You know where this is going don't you? -
They do command big money in Japan and the UK. Even in the US they are gaining traction as the early cars are very sought after. I think the early Z is over shadowed in Australia by the early Rotories (Have you seen the value of these now?) and the early Aussie Muscle cars. In particular the 432r (PS30-B) and 432 (PS30) with the S20 engine would probably get at least 60K AU+ or more. Also the HS30-H Fairlady 240zg also commands high prices. Its just here in Aus where they are undervalued. However in recent years there has been an increase and they won't go down in value anything soon.

Shouldn't be too much, the main thing is the physical move of the data on the server. I might ask my hosting company for their ideas on the best way to tackle this. They are really helpful in this regard. Logo change is easy, its all the internal link references to addresses with www.viczcar.com. I will need to write a server file that redirects all requests to the same address but with www.auszcar.com as the prefix instead. Also there is the issue of Google, once we move we will loose our identity in the eyes of Google so I will ask around some experts in the industry as to what I should do. Also the latest version of Joomla is out now Joomla 1.5 and is worth upgrading to, I've had a look at the process and there is a bit of work involved. I figure I may as well do everything in one go but its a good weekend or more worth of work. Perhaps 2 full weekends and now that I go shopping on the weekend and do my own laundry and all that other stuff (Gee mum was great) time is difficult to find. So it will be a long process but I think the main thing for now is to change the logo and most references to Auszcar.com and the physical relocation of the site will come over the next year or so.

Oh and from a mechanical point of few, drive the car first for a bit maybe 2 or 3 weeks (if its running). See what its like to drive and enjoy it even if it is falling to bits to begin with. I'd also recommend doing all the mechanical work first and only repairing structural rust. Once you had all the mechanicals sorted then you can do the body work. If you do it the other way around you'll scratch up your nice paint job.

Set up an online journal of your adventure. Its a great way to document everything. Much like what Matt Drago has done. http://240z.drago.com.au/ if you need any help getting one set up and running I'd be glad to help. Basically what you need to do is this though: Buy a domain name, I recommend www.godaddy.com Buy some web hosting I recommend www.rochen.com.au but if you are on a budget www.ipower.com were our first host. Albeit we had to shift due to traffic demands and account limitations. Download wordpress www.wordpress.org and install it on your hosting account. Done! You have a nice shiny web log and journal. See http://datsun-240z-blog.viczcar.com/ Alternatively you can just go to www.blogger.com and get a free one that's hosted and all. But I prefer having my own domain name and site.

Hi guys, Finally got around to redirecting www.auszcar.com to this site. Its the first basic step toward giving us an all Australian club. Obviously there is still some confusion as to if this is just a Victorian based site so hopefully this will help clear the air. It will be a while before the entire site moves over but you can start linking to the site using www.auszcar.com if you like. On a site note I've replaced the search function of the site with a Google customised search box. This searches the whole site instead of just the articles section. You can also still search just the forum if you like. Anyway feedback on the search forum would be great.

I personally love the fact that I can work on it myself. Although I hate the greasy fingers and cut up knuckles you get. I love the feeling of accomplishment you get from fixing something that wasn't working right before. It feels even better when you thrash someone at the lights . Just fixing the advance mechanism on the distributor transformed my car from slug to rocket. Funny thing is since being away I keep thinking about slapping the triple 44's on her and slapping a bit cam in it just to see how quick she can go with a warm L28.
-
I've always agreed with this myself. The Z used to eat Porsche's for breakfast on the track and its well documented in its racing history. The 930 Turbo is an awesome car but I love the balance of the early Z.

Hi everyone, Not sure if this has been posted before but you can order engine conversion kits from http://www.jagsthatrun.com/ they have a book dedicated to the topic that I skimmed over years ago. Don't have the book anymore, but im sure others would find it useful. Let me know if you have had any experience with these guys, positive or negative. Cheers,

This is a fairly old topic and applied before I updated the site. On the previous forum software I made a modification that required users enter their location before sign up. I will probably make this change to new forum software too. I just haven't got around to it yet. It seems everyone and their dog signs up and asks a question without entering their location. If members choose to enter suburb I guess that's their choice. Otherwise they can just enter VIC or NSW or Melbourne or Sydney etc...
-
What Lurch is trying to say is, your location will help us to know what costs are involved as this can have an impact on cost. We have some overseas members so its not safe to assume you are in Australia. Both engines can achieve big power but will give the car quite different characteristics in terms of power delivery. An Sr20 will have an impact on the way the car handles as it's quite light and will tuck behind the front crossmember.

I think this is a very responsible look at the way the thread "could go". To be honest I'm not sure I want to say how much I've spent yet, mainly because its not finished and mainly because I know how much still needs to be spent. I love my Z, so its never been about the money for me its about the satisfaction it brings. This is why I'm torn between a newer engine and the old L-series. I love the old "donk" but you can achieve so much more from a newer say RB engine. I'll be the first to admit right now i'm way to broke to blow anything on my car. I guess when you travel you forgo the luxury of a Zcar sitting back home in a garage. I realised that it wasn't going to be finished yet and why rush. I'd rather see a bit of the world and when I'm a bit older more experience and know what I want to do with it I'll blow big money on it . One of the best things I think I've done for my Z though was start this website with Sulio . Its probably the best resource and biggest help, plus I've met so many good contacts that will hopefully be able to assist when the time comes. Back on topic for now I guess
