  1. With brute force lol... but that hasn't worked. So on the underside of the winder there the 2 slits cut out where the circlip slides into. I position the circlip so that it's not quite in, but ready to move. Usually by pushing it on it will snap into place and hold the handle in. That's how I've always done it anyway. I don't have any speciality tools for it. Don't worry to try putting a screw driver down there either in case I tear the OEM door card material.
  2. Hi Guys, I have a bit of a problem with the passenger side window winder on my Z. I recently installed some 'new' but old OEM door cards to replace the shag pile style ones that were fitted to my Z. The old shag pile door cards had more give in them and the newer ones are a lot more solid with less flex. As a result I can't for the life of me get the window winder to pop on and the circlip to lock into position. I've never had this problem before on a Z and the drivers side was fine. I did have a bit of trouble fitting the passenger side door trim because it seemed as if the alignment between the door and the card was a little out in terms of getting the little rivet type fasteners on the door card to line up with the holes in the door shell. It's all snug on the door now, just the winder on passenger side won't play nice. This got me wondering, did Nissan change the winders over the years slightly? Are any thicker or narrower? It seems like the passenger side winder I have is a bit thicker and I was gonna carefully grind it down, but would rather determine the cause of the mis-fit than resort to that. Can post pictures also.
  3. Just a personal opinion but you won't save much money buying these over the OEM ones. The OEM ones will be much better quality. So I would go with those. These seem to be made of plastic I'm pretty sure the factory ones were steel? There are lots of other areas you can save money on your build. For me this wouldn't be 1 of them.
  4. If you upload to Youtube it should be able to compress for you and make it more streamable. There is usually a HD option on Youtube so you can get a better quality version also.
  5. Yeah here's to hoping for pleasant surprises . I started a project thread here: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,13624.0.html
  6. So as some of you may have noticed in the eBay thread. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,2630.msg143013.html#msg143013 I bought Lurch's sister car #150 on eBay. First plan is to transport her from S.A to NSW. So my question to the group is does anyone know a good freight company and approx what it should cost? The next plan will be to find out why she's not running, I suspect the old L28 will still have good compression and probably just needs a tune, new plugs, new fuel and fluid changes etc.. I am anxious to see how rusty she is also. It's going to be a good chance to learn how to weld and repair rust. I'll start with more conspicuous places first if possible and work my way up to the harder stuff. I've been inspired watching other members here build their cars over the years and I'll definitely need some advice, guidance and probably a good shot of motivation to dig in. I don't care about the paint at this stage, in fact I'm thinking it might work to my advantage. I might try and go for that rat rod / old race car look. Throw some racing numbers on it and maybe a few other quirky bits and pieces to make it look like it's had a hard life at the track in other words being properly used and abused. The other reason I bought it is that I wanted to get more involved with the Sydney / NSW Z fraternity. So I am hoping to get her on the road at some point in the not too distant future. I was always a bit nervous about letting my partner drive the current 240z I have, so now that I've got another hopefully I can relax and let her drive 1 of them. She still needs to learn manual though. A few months ago I saw this 240z for sale in NZ. http://www.moorhousemusclecars.co.nz/vehicle.aspx?stockno=2098 You'll note it went to Malaysia probably a collector. I can't recall what it was exactly listed for, but I think 27,000 NZD? I've always wanted an early build 240z with the vents in the rear hatch, the 240z C pillar emblems the hand throttle and all those other quirky bits that make the early cars just a bit more special. Eventually I'd love to build a proper looking Safari Gold 240z. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1685722-Non-BMW-content-Datsun-240z-S30-resto-Pic-heavy http://www.schmitt.com/viewimage.asp?ID=4925 It's not a #'s matching car - any ideas on how to track down where the L24 might have went? I guess probably next to impossible to find now, but who knows it could be running around in a 240c or something? I am thinking of building a replica of a 432 - but without the S20 of course (don't think I'll be able to ever get 1 of those I'm afraid). So yes the plan is to stay Safari Gold (aka Baby Sh%& Yellow as my friends mum used to call it). They had a Toyota Crown in a similar hue. It just oozes 70s cool in this shade. I think a pair of U0175 Datsun bucket race seats in it would top it off too! I took a bit of a punt on this car, I didn't see it in person, but from the photos it looks remarkably complete. In my opinion a complete car is the best to start any form of restoration work from. Will keep you guys updated when it arrives in NSW. In the interim if anyone can lend a hand, recommend a company or has ideas on the best way to get it freighted over to my place in NSW let me know? The current seller is willing to drop it at a freight company free of charge, which is super nice of him/her.
  7. I just want to say thanks for Gordon and family for the use of their place. Thanks for everyone who put in the effort to come down with or without a Z and I really enjoyed talking to everyone about their cars and tried to take photos of all of them. Although a couple I missed, sorry about that. I was probably caught up in conversation. My only regret was I didn't have time to get mine down there for the day. Dimitri took me for a spin in his 240z which was awesome, the old L24 really pulls well and makes all kinds of crazy noises. I'll try and post that footage soon, but it really doesn't capture the experience in the same way. To be honest I was so caught up in the energy of the day I decided to bid on another 240z in SA and won - thread to come shortly. So I blame you lot for this! Also great to see so many familiar faces in the Z-scene, so of you I've known for 10+ years now. If anyone from interstate is thinking of coming next year, please do. It's a cheap enough flight (provided it's not cancelled) and a fantastic way of networking with all the guys in the real world. Lots of family was there and the kids seemed to keep themselves amused.
  8. Holy rusted metal batman look at all these photos
  9. More than welcome to. I am really hoping we get numbers together for TAFE course so I can use this car as part of the course. Practical application. I'll start another thread in a minute. Gotta get this thing transported . @Chris I have actually been thinking we need to integrate the WA Zcars registry closer into this site so we can get a true gauge of how many of what are in each state, but yes part of me wants to help the NSW crew get as large as Victoria . Then I'll need to just move between states to build each Z fraternity up lol..
  10. OK I'll let the cat out the bag I bought Lurch's sister car 150. Didn't think I would win at that price. I'm expecting a bucket of rust but hoping to be surprised. Will post details of build direction and plan soon. Let's hope it will fit in the garage next to the rx7 I don't think there will be enough room but maybe I can Jimmy up a form of shelter for it if not. It looks complete from photos so I'm hoping she hasn't been to messed about with.
  11. I heard its heading to NSW.
  12. Did you see who bought it?
  13. I need address also. How much does a trailer cost thinking of towing mine down if its not too much.
  14. It might be an interesting exercise to compile photos of cars that represent different era's of cars and car modifications. For example starting with 70s era 240z/260z's and the customisations owners would have done back then, then moving in the 80s and 90s and then 00s. What are the trademark features or attributes that define a specific era of car culture?
  15. Might be a good start? http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/thornleigh/auto-body-parts/datsun-240z-260z-front-bumper-bar/1032865280
  16. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nissan-2400-OHC-Valve-cover-RARE-Datsun-240z-260z-280z-280zx-Fairlady-S30-/301034584653 $25 USD a steal perhaps?
  17. Very interesting, t seems that the 69 US models got them, but by the time they started on the AU market cars they discontinued it after HS30 0050. There are quite a few around on eBay US if anyone is desperate for 1.
  18. Does anyone know if Australian delivered 240z's had the 2400 CC valve cover? I don't think I've ever seen 1 in Australia so I'm thinking it's a US thing only.
  19. Alright, so it looks like I will still make it. Thanks to the help of a very generous member who pulled a few strings. Further updates soon.
  20. Yeah due to some business with a storm. If there was a storm nobody told me. I rode my bike home after getting a taxi back to the office and it was windy, but I sure did ride home in far worse in Dublin. http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/sydney-weather-commuters-face-windy-trip-home-20131205-2yta7.html Only way I think I can get there is: Train or Road Trip. So any fellow Sydney members wanna go on a road trip to Melbourne? I'm still keen to go, but I couldn't get another flight until midday Saturday everything is booked out.
  21. I'll be in Melbourne around Christmas returning around the 6th of December. I'm driving my sisters car (4x4) back to Sydney. I could get it that far?
  22. All flight to Melbourne from Sydney have been cancelled due to a storm. Sorry guys unless I drive down looks like I won't be there.
  23. Bit rich for me considering what it needed.
  24. Was that the car on Gumtree? Red 1 in Port Melbourne? Any idea what it sold for?
