Not specific enough... Last 240z sold ever? In which market? For HS30's Alan started a thread here re: highest number HS30. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13437-chassis-number-bingo/

HS30 00920 1971 Model First registered as FV4253 in NZ and still on these plates today! Engine No: L24 042672 Original Colour: 920 Safari Gold (happy coincidence perhaps?) Owner: Ken Brough (previous owners 24 of them!) There is a lot of detail in this article about it. http://www.themotorhood.com/themotorhood/2015/10/23/datsun-240z-back-to-the-future Check out the photos though! She originally wore Kobe Seiko Magnesium alloys 4.5j wide! Repainted red now and wearing the 'peanut' or 'kidney' style alloys. The article quotes some interesting numbers. The last part in bold is interesting, I wonder if they mean only 420 were produced as Fairlady 240Z's (HS30) or Fairlady 240ZG's (HS30-H) or if that number is for both models? These numbers do seem about right...which means 240z's are even rarer than I thought in Australia...(if the 2358 no. is to be taken as the gospel).

Great work! I tried to buy a set of NOS center badges / emblems a while back but got beaten to the punch! Who re-chromed them and what did it cost per cap? I'd imagine about $250 each? Did you re-chrome the rusty one with holes in it or source better ones? I am interested in the air cleaner paint code / formula if you can share it? Did you get the gear knob billet piece from Jake?

Thoughts On Left Hand Vs. Right Hand Drive Z
gav240z replied to Webby's topic in General Discussions
Yes of course, but there is a reason not many have done it... RHD dashboards are rare and hard to find now (especially 240z or early S30Z ones). Different wiper configuration and cowl panel. Firewall would need to be cut out and patched. Pedal boxes are different. Steering column cowl and combination switches (you know they are a fortune now). Tail lamp wiring + you may need to convert to amber turn signals. (expensive if looking for originals not reproductions) Headlamps will point wrong way. I suspect steering racks are different. Once you factor in the following: 1. Cost of vehicle (USD to AUD conversion rates) 2. Shipping and import duties. 3. Cost of conversion 4. Risks involved with bringing in a 40 year old 240z with unknown restoration / repair work. You don't really save any money on buying a good HS30. If I was to do it, I personally would not bother with the LHD to RHD conversion... it's not worth the cost. Considering it's not likely to be your daily driver. -
Thoughts On Left Hand Vs. Right Hand Drive Z

How about HLS30's are a bit watered down? 3.5 ratio diff, 4 speed box. Different springs and suspension (softer). More emissions gear, air pump and messier manifolds due to smog equipment. 73 240z's had bigger bumpers (not that great to look at), flat top SU carbs that everyone loves. Of course easy enough to change those things mind you, but it adds up. -

I drove a LHD car when I was in SFO. Personally don't see it as a huge deal. If I wanted a 240z and couldn't pay today's prices in Oz I'd import 1 myself. -
So a blue 240z originally? I am yet to find a Blue/Blue combo 240z that was delivered to Australia. If we can confirm there was such a car (or cars) it would make me quite happy. As truthfully I think that colour combination is my absolute favorite on an early 240z.

I would talk to a local auto upholsterer. I walked past this guy's place recently in Five Dock Sydney. https://www.google.com.au/search?q=J+and+A+auto+upholstery+five+dock&oq=J+and+A+auto+upholstery+five+dock&aqs=chrome..69i57.6204j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 He doesn't really have a website (so he must be good? ), but I plan to speak to him about repairing my seats (a couple of tears) and may ask him about the foam. Looks like he's been around for years which is always a good sign.

Ask them to ship to Australia...if they don't then not a lot you can do unless using a broker / export agent of some description or you have a point of contact in North America you can have items shipped to.

Cheapest I saw in a while. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240Z-Triple-Mukuni-44pph-260Z-280Z-L24-L26-L28-S20-/152211157601 I would have paid the Buy it now, but the photo was 40's and not 44's. Seller later said he used photos of 40's but was selling 44's. Always makes me nervous. The cheapest ones are often in the US.

Just an update, got a few of these back and have messaged 2 members already. I expect more to come in over the coming weeks. $419 per Quartz movement clock. Subtract core refund (-$50) = $369 + postage ($12 Australia wide). The cost break down is like so: $35 quartz clock (dattocam) $50 240z clock (core) $20 postage $314 Ron's (labour cost) ($249 USD) It all adds up and finding core clocks is getting harder, especially ones with good bezel and lens. Side note: The Quartz units are not always salvageable! I also recently discovered there is more than 1 version (see attached image). The later version appears to be a cost saving measure on behalf of Kanto Seiki and is made from plastic components and mounts differently to the face. Therefore it's not a suitable Jeco clock donor.

That vinyl roof lining looks OEM I'd be very happy with that! Where did you buy it from? Do they have an online store? Sadly mine has a big hole cut in it, someone thought a sunroof was a good idea.

I'll send you some photos of what I have if I remember this weekend. It's a shame the driver side was damaged by some hamfisted numpty because they would have otherwise been in good shape for their age.
-
What do you need them for? My RH side (driver side) is stuffed at the bottom corner, but passenger side is good. I got another good pair of second hand ones off Gareth a while back. I was going to keep the good passenger side, but guess it depends what you want to swap for?

And that for me is a pretty big difference!

The other reason I haven't re-done my tail light trims (which 240z/260z are different) is that no matter how hard I try not to, I break the pins on the rear removing them from the housing on 240z tail lights. They are just frail and old and the push nuts are really difficult to remove. If I could use some kind of plastic adhesive to fix the posts I'd retain the originals (and in fact I have the originals still just in case!).

Barry I'd love to see photos, you may need to use the "More Reply Options" button at the bottom, instead of just using the quick reply post. Also if you're using Chrome web browser, they recently started to disable Flash ahhhhhh!. So you need to right click on the area where the choose files... button usually is and enable it. I've attached some screenshots of how to do it. Side Note: I will need to update the forum software shortly to the latest version. I hope they have resolved it and rely on HTML5 instead of flash for the new uploader. I didn't upgrade sooner because the new version was in beta and I wanted them to iron out all the teething issues before attempting the migration.

70, and it's not finding them that's hard (well 70 date stamped is), it's the shipping / freight that is the killer... Also doesn't make a lot of sense to ship 1 at a time. Better to buy in bulk. I'm actually thinking I'll get the 4.5j Roadster wheels which are date stamped 68 or similar and re-stamp them - shock horror I know! But I'd also like to get some later ones 5j to widen..love the look...
