  1. Yeah that cam profile is interesting to say the least.
  2. RE: 260z 2+2 and yet a few years later in the early 80s Alan Moffat was able to run a series 1 RX-7 which can't have had much more leg room surely? I would in particular love to know if you have many photos of the works rally 240z which was the original car that Ross Dunkerton drove? The photo above looks like the later iteration as a "260z" shell when parts were moved over.
  3. I think an E-book is a great way to do it at a low cost. Perhaps a coffee table book would be a hard copy that had photos and images from the period and less so the text? So they would supplement each other? I know I'd be very interested in racing photos from the period.
  4. The thought had occurred to me, but just a house with a large workshop or a warehouse conversion would also suit me. I asked about this 1 recently. http://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-vic-hillside-123321426 I thought being further out of Melbourne in the West it would be cheaper. They only want close to 1.6M though! Personally the only reason I was really interested was the workshop. Can't be bothered mowing that lawn regularly. Or looking after a pool.
  5. Clean 280zx for sale. $9,999.00 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/surry-hills/cars-vans-utes/datsun-nissan-280zx-2-2/1135842899
  6. What kind of L24 head? E31 or E88? I'm not really looking to import motors at this stage. Mostly panels and steel wheels. Things that are getting impossible to find here.
  7. Yeah mine is garaged safely but it was already stolen once when I lived in Ireland, but I recovered her and restored her after the damage the pricks did to it. Funny thing is it was parked around the back of where I used to live so nobody could see it from the street. Then it was left in the neighbours driveway for 3 days whilst the driveway was being re-done and that was all it took to get it stolen. Now I never let it out of my sight. I recall a couple of years ago there was lots of FD RX-7's being stolen in Victoria and NSW and I recall a few never got found. Probably sent out of the country in a container . So I somewhat understand Shannon's position. Even the guy on the phone had a laugh when I told him it has already been stolen once. He said "well there ya go!".
  8. I like GP Maroon, I also think Safari Gold is a good colour that contrasts well with the "Grande Nose" set up.
  9. Now on eBay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-260Z-barn-find-2-seater-auto-7-1974-Same-body-as-240Z-Burwood-Victoria-/282322125696 Starting bid:AU $7,999.00 [ 0 bids ] Only 43 mins left?
  10. I'm with Enthusiast Underwritings. http://enthusiast.com.au/ I've had nightmares getting the FD RX-7 insured in the Inner West of Sydney. Shannon's won't do it for under $2k p/year. I recently updated my policy on all my cars and increased their values. I overstated their values also because it's easy to underestimate total cost to replace something. My 72 240z is now up to $45k, even though the car isn't perfect, if I found a rough 240z for $30k I could easily sink $15k into it and not be at the level of my 72. Hence I try to insure for total replacement value.
  11. I wonder what it was running from?

  13. For some reason I recall a video of someone being a spiderman and this car? Am I right? If not ignore me. I'll try find said video and it will all be self explanatory. I approve of the 240ZG replica look. It's a sorely underrated look. I saw an early Series 1 E-Type Convertible this morning I noticed the front of the car's nose is quite a small opening (which lead to some over-heating issues) probably for aerodynamics compared with the wider open front of the standard S30Z. I know the Gnose (or blunt nose) was designed to improve the aerodynamics of the front of the car. I couldn't help but feel it closed off the front end of the car in a similar manner to the E-type. The other thing that ran through my mind is how much more beautiful the shape of the S30Z is, I pictured briefly an S30Z with Gnose sitting next to the E-type and couldn't help but feel it would be the nicer looking machine (but I am of course biased). Welcome to the nut house!
  14. I was more impressed that he used Microsoft Word for it, didn't think it would be the most suitable platform for it. Necessity is the mother of invention I guess. I have Photoshop and Illustrator, which i'll use to trace these out.. There is also a good tutorial here for a Mazda MX-5 cluster. https://mazda626.net/topic/39309-making-custom-gauge-faces/ A couple of other resources: http://www.screenprintingforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1810 http://www.scionlife.com/forums/scion-tc-1g-ice-interior-1647/%2A-ledmod-coms-newest-addition-custom-gauge-face-samples-151336/
  15. http://www.rhdjapan.com/kameari-intake-manifold-kit-l-type-42mm-l6-rod-type.html The Harada manifold is sold on RHDJapan under the Kameari Engine Works brand name.
  16. Go for the Harada manifold new. http://www.gl2007.com/usa_52.html Only thing I don't like is the anodized linkages. See also. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/51514-switch-from-cannon-to-harada-triple-manifold/
  17. Triple 40mm Type R's. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/361880099272?ul_noapp=true US $1,500.00 buy it now.
  18. The article claims the car is PS30 00017, for some reason the article ends abruptly and I can't figure out if there is a missing page or if it was an editorial issue? It's quite odd to see a Fairlady Z432 with the peanut alloys. Do you know where the car is now?

    N47 Head

N47 has round exhaust ports. Which makes finding a manifold for them harder in Australia.
  20. I'm pretty sure compliance plates in Australia stated if a car was auto (A for auto), but if this car didn't have 1 that would not help.
  21. I used Iron Lady Imports to export my FD RX-7 from Ireland(Dublin) to Sydney. I'm sure they can help going the other way. http://www.ironladyimports.com/ Not that I want to see our cars leave the country...

    N47 Head

I don't think we got any in Australia. Why that head?
  23. How on earth did you use Microsoft word to design gauges? Professional silk screening would make them look OEM.
  24. Quite a few 2+2S in the UK. I am also pretty sure they were sold new there.
  25. Ok so reading a magazine tonight I have had in storage for many years. Magazine is Australian and called "Modern Motor" Published January 1974. It features a tea coloured 260z 2+2 with Grande Nose on it and fender flares that never made it to production. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Vintage-Modern-Motor-Magazine-Jan-1974-/142023593709 This is what it says verbatim in 1 of the paragraphs. "In 1970, the year of introduction the car sold 110 units. The next year the total read 751! Stock shortages in 1972 due to a variety of factors cut sales to 534, although demand was calculated at several hundred in excess of that. This year, figures to date reveal 607 units have been sold with more than two months of figures yet to be tallied in. In any case, it seems that despite severe shortages again, more than 700 vehicles will be sold." I have noticed so far that 1972 models seem to be a lot less common than 71 or 73 models. Obviously 70 models are the rarest of all 240z's sold here but there might be some truth to these numbers. In which case early 240z's sold here are possibly lower than we expected. Closer to around 2000 units than the closer to 2,500 - 3,000 units sold. I'd be surprised if we only had 100 units sold in 1970, but given that this article was written in 1974 it's possible the figures were obtained from Nissan (before a lot of their records were thrown out before they moved out of their CBD offices (was it Swanston St?). Same magazine also features a short article on a PS30 or PS30-SB (it does say Z432-R but I doubt it).
