Alan, did the E31 casting code blocks precede the P30 blocks? The reason I ask is that on the Cedric group on Facebook a few said they had P30 blocks with E30 heads. It would seem odd to me that sequential L24 blocks would have different casting codes. For example: Just taking 2 random block numbers (not sure what they are in reality). L24 - 014XXX1 (E31) L24 - 014XXX2 (P30) Would it be possible to see something like this? Or would they have all been E31 before switching to P30. I would think that the casting code would change only when the cast was updated (due to maybe improvement sin casting process). Therefore all early L24 blocks should be E31 cast. Someone mentioned that E31 blocks were for L24s fitted to 240z's only. But I think this is a furphy.

The Nissan Super 6 Cedric's (130's) had an L24 and E30 head. I think the E30 head had smaller ports than the E31. E30 was also fitted to L20A's I believe. Later L24s would be fitted to Datsun 240K's with their L24's. http://www.earlydatsun.com/nissan130mk5.html

LOL, how many years has it been since you saw this? -
For those who missed out on this car, you can get a replica here for a bit of a discount. http://bringatrailer.com/2017/02/03/400-hp-colombo-v12-250-gto-bodied-1965-ferrari-330gt-22/

Thanks Peter that would make sense. I will have to call Anthony "Tony". To talk to him about the car again. I looked up his address and looks like his phone number and name are still at the same location. He showed me photos during its restoration in the 90s when I looked at it in 2001. I'd love to scan them for my own records. I'm curious what mag wheels it had on it before the superlites. My guess is the same wheels as on #150 the Aunger Hotwires you see on so many Aussie S30z's. I would also like to ask him about the dealer fitted aircon. I'll tell you I had the car out on a 35 degree day in Melbourne and I think I need to put aircon back in it. It's a hot box without it.

That's also possible. -
Can you spot the bent torsion bar? I've got them removed for now while I play with the alignment. Too hard to adjust things with them fitted in place.
-
Well 5-6 hours of working in a hot sweaty garage wrestling with torsion bars, hinges, fenders, spanners etc.. It's not fun! But I think it's getting closer to looking right on the car.

So more detective work. Before HS30 00150 was ENR 466 registration. She lived a previous life as LMK-133. My old 240z was LCU 540 (her original registration since first registered in 1972). http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/11823-evie-1972-datsun-240z/?p=187711 So LMK-133 must have been issued a couple of years after #150 was first registered back in 1971 since LMK comes after LCU. Perhaps because she was a dealer demo car to begin with? I've often speculated that may have been the case for the very first ones to arrive here. Perhaps it had temporary dealer plates until it was sold in 1972 at some point to it's first "official" owner. Anyway just like my 72 I found a couple of old paper advertisements for my 1970 Datsun 240z in the paper. Saturday May 2nd 1981 is when it first appeared and the same add ran on: Wednesday May 6th 1981 Saturday May 9th 1981 Wednesday May 13th 1981 Unlike my 72 this ad is light on details. It just says: 09 May 1981, Page 123 - The Age at Newspapers.pdf -
So, I don't know if anything else will think this is cool. But it's pretty exciting if you ask me. I managed to find a classified listing for my 72 240z back in 1980. To be precise it was Saturday 7th of June 1980, found in The Age - Melbourne. So anyone know what the S4295 means? I'm guessing L.1011 is lot no. for the dealer it was traded in at? The Air-Con was a surprise. I never saw anything to indicate that was fitted to the car. 07 Jun 1980, Page 113 - The Age at Newspapers.pdf

So I found this receipt this afternoon going through a box full of paper work that came in HS30 00150. There is a receipt for the purchase of a 260z from a P. Dennis. Registration No. IHR 497 The signature looks like Phillip J. Douglas but I can't tell for sure. I believe they were a member of the Nissan Datsun Sports Owners Club circa 1991. There was also a receipt for an address 35 Eton St Preston. Which appears to be Fetter Motors now. http://www.fettermotors.com.au/ Also a business card for Oakleigh Panels. Run by Robert Pinzana and Laurie Pinzana. They appear to still be around. https://www.shannons.com.au/club/directory/oakleigh-panels-autobody-oakleigh-3166/ If anyone knows either of the 2 names on the receipt let me know? I'd love to find or track down a previous owner. -
Another interesting observation and why I need to get this information into a CSV. HS30-00117 = L24-015308 HS30-00121 = L24-015267 HS30-00131 = L24-015467 HS30-00145 = L24-015251 HS30-00149 = L24-015356 HS30-00150 = L24-015253 HS30-00151 = L24-015084 HS30-00155 = L24-014692 HS30-00160 = L24-015329 Attached is a photo of the engine block L24-015356 from #149. Which indicates a September 1970 casting date. It kind of goes without saying, but these cars must have been assembled very close together. Other cars have larger gaps. But you can see that the engine numbers are all over the place. Example: The engine in #150 was made or at least assigned a block no. before the blocks in #121 and #117. @Craig if you're watching. I see here: http://www.wazregister.com/index.php?title=View_ANZIS30_Register It mentions Eng. no for HS30 0004 is unknown. However Carl Becky recorded this here: http://www.zhome.com/IZCC/ZRegisters/classicHS.htm L24 003605 (which says made January 1970). Since blocks can be out of whack with chassis numbers etc.. It's possible the shell of HS30 0004 was made in 1969, but didn't receive a block and block no. until January 1970. Of course don't take it as the gospel but it's a possibility.

Yeah I can get all kinds of date stamped ones. The earlier ones are hardest though! But as you say they look pretty much the same throughout the years.

Curious what you did for the clock.

Don't tell me that, my OCD is going to go crazy! I will see how I go this weekend, it's going to be a lot of hours of messing about and swearing I think .

I bought a set of 5 of these. Here is a photo of 1 of them. Which happens to show a tape measure also. I can't visually see any major difference with the S30Z style wheels, apart from the tabs on the front. FYI: These just arrived at the Warehouse. I'm looking to add more to the shipment.

Agree, it's worth about $30k to the right person, but that right person may have lost interest now. -

A buy it now sets a fixed price on what something is worth, where as in an auction it could exceed said "buy it now" if 2 or more interested parties bid up the price. Of course the best way to achieve the highest price is a sealed bid sort of auction where potential buyers put in their best offer. An auction will only ever get you the second highest price someone is willing to pay. When I bought HS30 00150, the under bidder was only willing to go up to around $5,500. But I was prepared to go to $10k from memory. I was delighted when I won the auction. -
Yes I was afraid that would be the case. The problem working with a damaged bonnet to start with is I don't know how out of shape things are or where to start working from. I have a feeling the bonnet frame is slightly out of whack so I will try twisting it as suggested to get it more "aligned". This is why I was looking at starting with another known straight bonnet. I think bonnet alignment on an S30Z is probably 1 of the hardest panels to get right to be honest. The alignment of the bonnet on my 72 is out of whack too at the front and I've been wanting to change it. At least I'll get some practice here first where scratching paint is ok.
-
Does anyone have tips on hood/bonnet alignment techniques on an S30Z? Last night I trial fitted the bonnet onto the the car. I am thinking I need to remove the front grille to make it easier to access the hinge bolts on each side. The passenger side sticks up above the guard as you can see in the photos. We haven't fixed the skin to the frame or welded in the new piece completely yet. Since we want to see how it fits on the car first. If I recall correctly the bonnet sat on the car ok before I removed it. However going to fit it again later and it sits a bit funny.
