  1. Ahh so this is how you got the car done so quickly, ya cheated with fiberglass! LOL. Shame about the hatch, did they say anything when you raised this issue? I guess each car could be different and depends where they took the original mould from? If you have a moment can you photograph the inside of the bonnet? I'm curious how it looks from the inside. I've contemplated a fiberglass hood in flat black to emulate the Z432-R look...
  2. Just an FYI re: hoods/bonnets. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1974-1978-Datsun-240Z-260Z-280Z-S30-Front-Hood-w-Louver-Holes-/252847767853 I asked this seller if they are able to get a non-fluted version. They are going to get back to me in a couple of months. I also asked re: fitment since these are reproduction items (not original). I haven't had anyone manage to confirm fitment of these yet. I was contemplating buying 1 and just patching the holes in them, but I know the older Taiwan made bonnets had fitment issues. Not sure how good these are yet. Attached is feedback on hood/bonnet from 1 customer. Hard to really determine if it was customer car that was an issue or product itself.
  3. I believe the outer sills are Tabco items, I know folks have had issues with getting Tabco to play ball re: international shipping. So it may be an option to send via sea freight in bulk pending interest. Having said that I think sills are pretty straight forward to fabricate so it may work out cheaper to have a set made locally. Hence why I'm sort of focusing on stuff that is less straight forward to fabricate.
  4. I've considered offering parts for S30z's here as a business venture but realistically I think it will only ever work as a part time venture. Anyway will see how we go.
  5. Inner sill/rockers, and that looks bad... no wonder you need another. I was sure someone was re-making these... edit found this. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/55999-replacement-inner-rocker-panels/
  6. $600 USD seemed cheap compared to cost of fixing what I have (sadly cost me another $300 to transport it to the warehouse) and will be another couple hundred to get it here plus tax, but also it was cheaper than the last set I was bidding on on Yahoo! Auctions. Actually the biggest hassle is importing and figuring that out, but I'm using a company now that I am trialling out. We will see how it goes. Only problem is lag time, 3 months. I have a set of 5 Topy wheels with them also (on their way) and plan to start doing more panels. It was definitely part of the justification. Too many times I'd see what I need in the US but not sure about how to get it here that I'd have to leave it. Now with the scarcity of stuff over here I think someone needs to start doing it. It's always better to source panels locally but I must have looked at 10 bonnets lately, all in bad shape... To really make this economical though it would help to have points of contact with several panels in the US that can send in bulk. I've managed to find a couple of folks but haven't really gone further with it yet until I know what demand is like.
  7. I didn't think much of the America's Cup until seeing that.
  8. As it says, custom on it.
  9. Hi guys, I just found this link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240z-Body-Electrical-Harness-Rebuild-Kit-OE-style-connectors/302329193191 Website: http://datsun240z-restoration.info/ eBay store: http://stores.ebay.com/datsun240z-restoration-info?_trksid=p2047675.l2563
  10. Hmmm I didn't update this thread, found a driver side NOS 1/4 panel for it (it appeared on eBay US with a buy it now and I just grabbed it). Now to find a passenger side 1/4 panel. I may have a lead on 1 too!
  11. So trying to figure out how to repair this section has probably taken more thought on my behalf than really needed. I've been umming and arhhing over how to best do it and I finally decided to just give it a go and see what happens. I've spent enough time over thinking it. Since this area has a lot of folds and angles, it's hard to make a replacement piece (that is 1 piece). Also I should probably have attempted this while it was still attached to the car (rear valance area) and that was the plan originally but I got carried away thinking I'd tackle the lower half first. I've just tack welded these pieces into place for now. They are joined with an overlap for now, but I'll cut the excess and probably oxy weld them together. I'll use oxy because I can still reshape with a hammer and dolly after welding where as a mig weld is hard and not as pliable after welding. Since I'll probably need to make some minor adjustments as I go, and I might try and re-shape some areas with a hammer and dolly etc.. Thing is you won't see the area anyway once it's covered with the slam panel, and the rear tail lamp interior plastic cover panel. But I don't want it to be messy at the same time. I was hoping I'd only have to do 1 weld line, but I think I'll have to patch a few smaller spots etc.. but with a bit of filing down and grinding hopefully it will be hard to detect once done. Worst case scenario I may be able to import a slightly weathered NOS panel, but working on this just in case that doesn't materialise.
  12. I was the under the impression that the valve covers from late 70 onward were pretty much the same. Nissan OHC covers. I am not aware of any other differences. Have you got a photo of the specific difference you're talking about? Got a photo of the early alternator? I may have 1 in the garage that came off HS30 00150 but haven't paid too much attention to differences. Although I'm sure I recall some discussion about this on classiczcars.com I actually think an item like this would be better sent via Air Post than shipping container though. It's small (yes heavy) but small items like this would be difficult to keep track of. The valve covers Nissan 2400 OHC are not cheap I'm afraid. They have doubled in price in the past year...
  13. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/292138621520?ul_noapp=true Henrob oxy kit, if I was in Melbourne I'd be buying this!
  14. At this price point they all have rust, which rust are you afraid of in particular? What's interesting is that the other 240z for sale on eBay right now. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-240z/172708880783 Is HS30 101165 so only 5 cars away from what you just bought HS30 101170. What are the chances of that? I dunno... I actually expected your car to reach at least $12k.. so thought it went a bit cheaper than expected.
  15. Re: spoilers and the like I will consider items like this but my experience with trying to organise group buys tells me 3-4 will be definite and the rest maybe. This is still a trial run. If demand exceeds supply I'll keep doing it ?. I think the only way to get around the vehicle import process would be to cut cars in half. But I don't have someone who can do it on that end. I feel guilty chopping them up too. ? Right now I'm focused on stuff I am finding difficult to locate here. For example I do have a spare roof turret but it's in need of repair work and someone has had a go at repair work already. So I decided to import a whole other roof cut. Finding a 2 seater roof now is very hard. Same with a decent bonnet. Judging by the 240z's for sale and rust repair work they are gonna need. I suspect demand is there. ?
  16. Muteki did you buy it? I don't even know it's chassis no. I'm afraid.
  17. Almost anything is available, but of course at the right prices.
  18. Previous thread was more about Topy's than anything else. But yes was put on hold due to other expenses. In terms of valve cover I assume you want a Nissan 2400 OHC cover to go with the E31 casting? Condition of head it likely to be poor, as in you'll need to invest in fixing it. (refer to Lurch's engine build thread). E31's have had a hard life to this point. Should be able to find the metal fan or at least I know of someone with 1 (adds a whole -15hp ). Keep the requests coming folks.
  19. You move quick!
  20. Ok good to know. RE: Front guards, I hope you can find some locally because I think they will be too expensive once imported. That's why I'm focusing on the hard stuff like roof's, 1/4 panels and doors. However if I can find good guards I'l consider bringing a pair in (if price is right). Having said that, the point of starting this thread was to assess demand, so if there is high demand for stuff I'll certainly look to import it, even if it wasn't on my initial list. For the front spoiler and console I'd say you'd be better off sending via Air, since they are not heavy, just relatively large in shape. The stuff I'm importing will be heavy and large items that would be far too expensive to do via Air. There is a lag time of 3 months because it's being sent via sea.
  21. Hi Folks, So I've started to dabble with panel importing from the US, I'm trying to import 2 seater roof's. doors (240z), radiator support sections, bonnets, early rear hatches, 1/4 panels, topy wheels etc.. I had a bit of a set back with vet bills a month or 2 ago which put a dent in these plans, but I'm trying to do this again. Right now I still don't have a clear indication on price mostly because I don't know all the taxes I'll have to pay and what will happen when they arrive (pick up location etc..) how much time I'll need to invest. So I'm just importing a few items at the moment as a sort of trial. If you're after certain panels please just let me know what you're after. I'm not going to hold anyone's feet the fire but just trying to see what kind of interest there is. I'll be heading to the US around the 11th - 23rd of June and may have a chance to organise a bunch of stuff to be imported etc.. If this goes well and there is enough demand I may look at importing whole cars to part out also. But that's a little more complex as you have to get approval to import cars before you put them in a container.
  22. Thanks I don't have that 1 accounted for. It appears to have an L28, was apparently last documented as being in WA. (now in NSW). I see 1. 260z gear knob 2. Speaker holes in rear floor deck (but probably in storage boxes - this car likely doesn't have the cheese slats in the rear). 3. Horrid choice of wheels. 4. Torn seats 5. Radio is not original for an AU market car. 6. Dash cap 7. Missing airbox 8. Smashed in nose. 9. Probably had a vinyl roof at some point There the con's. On the positive side. 1. Looks pretty dry and hardly any rust. 2. It looks relatively straight apart from bonnet being pushed in a bit (probably fixed relatively easily). 3. No sunroof 4. Mostly original (shame L24 is gone). 5,. Might have been 905 red originally? Hard to find them in this colour originally. Since they moved to 110 red later. As a side note I reckon if Nissan sold all 240z's in red they would have sold twice the amount here . You see a lot of red S30Z's but most were not that colour originally. Probably a good restoration candidate.
  23. HS30 00675 in the UK is for sale. http://www.classicandsportscar.com/classifieds/classic-cars/datsun/240z/datsun-240z-1971/7296647 Price: POA (Contact Neil Dickson at Hairpin on +441249760686) This was the car that was at the Throttle Shop in Sydney and was previously from Lithgow.
