Worth bumping this up again. This time some Blue Mountains photos. https://www.flickr.com/photos/blue_mountains_library_-_local_studies/with/36634177234/ I think many of the photos in this slideshow I posted here come from these. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14535-off-topic-youtube-thread/?p=204495

Trip down memory lane?

This had serious man cave potential. https://www.realcommercial.com.au/property-industrial+warehouse-vic-footscray-502780318 Unfortunately for me, out of my price range. Just replace the motorcycle on the wall with some old S30Z panels like this old Porka.

Lovely example, wonder if it's 110 red? Must be I'd say. Kobe Seiko wheels look sweet in that charcoal grey colour.

Thanks Alan, have done that. I assume that mounting location is above the rally clock oscillator? As seen here, photos taken from PS30 00166 https://photos.app.goo.gl/QwjXY649pdEvg8vA3 -

No, to try and pre-empt an answer from Alan here, lots of automotive manufacturers use components from various third party companies when making cars. For example my FD RX-7 cluster is made by Kanto Seiki who also did instruments on the S30Z series (and our washer bottles). I suspect Mitsubishi was into making components like this for a long while when Nissan decided to contract them for specialist parts and a lot of this stuff is very early 70s components. The later Mitsubishi distributors (like these) I believe were found on later L28's in Japan such as Laurel's and S130Z's and other sedan's with L28's fitted and were much later cars (late 70s). I'm sure there is design similarities between them, but they are not directly related. As a side note I like the later Mitsubishi Distributors because their engineering quality seems to be above the earlier style E12 model Hitachi ones you commonly find on L28's here (280zx) with their plastic ball bearing cages (as part of the vacuum advance assembly) that often break and then you fail to have vacuum advance work. Remember early S30Z's used points based ignition systems and electronic was pretty exotic for the early 70s and since these were Sports Options parts carried a high premium in terms of price. Alan has informed me that there is quite a few variations of these electronic sports option components, for example works rally cars had the white box with a military canon style plug, I've never seen these mind you... I've saved some images here of various "special" gauges I've seen - and some of these are Alan's photos. https://goo.gl/photos/xyGbDP1QvpVA87bK7 NB: Some tach's stopped at 8k rpm and others at 10k rpm. -
I am not worried about the tint for my own car(s) and less concerned about marks (again for my own cars). But I will put you down re: a very clean will no marks glass.

RE: L24 vs L26, much of a muchness really.. in stock form. The extra displacement of the L26 would help slightly, but they are generally of a lower compression ratio. So it's all a bit moot. I can't comment on how good the webers are, as I've only really driven my own car with Triple Mikuni 44s and another L28 280z with 40mm Webers, the 44's are definitely more lively, not sure about 45 webers though! I can recommend Triples though, 1 of the best things I did on my 240z.

Ok my assumption was that someone had silk screened the face to reproduce the look. The little light globe condoms also made me think it wasn't an OEM production, but I've seen a couple of versions like you say. So I guess it's a gamble. -
I might be interested in the old bonnet. Let me know what price you're after via PM perhaps?

But Alan, is that the real deal? I thought they had the red/yellow sweeper needle? https://photos.app.goo.gl/GcCuluqgHcOd8UeD3 -
Pretty sure he would have sold you a left handed screw driver if you asked for that. Colour is an assumption looking at the interior colour, but also I know that only early 240z's had 903 Blue, but later ones had 307 or 114. But as I say it's rare to find on HS30's these days and certainly seems like an uncommon colour from the data I've put together so far. Yes the original L24 number (if the 1 in the car is not the original matching engine no.) I use the L24 sequence to help me know what year cars an L24 motor belongs to, it also helps with production / compliance dates etc..(since early cars didn't always have a compliance plate fitted).

Giving this another bump as deadline is approaching . I am thinking of importing vertical defrost glass (if available). Anyone else keen?
-
If only I had that much influence. I didn't push prices up in North America, Europe or Japan. I just got tired of hearing people dismiss these cars for so many years.
-
Thanks I didn't have that recorded (so that's another blue car). Did your car have black interior and manual from factory also?
-
Hey when you get a chance, can you confirm if it's matching #'s L24 (I couldn't make out L24 number on engine bay stamp in photo resolution was too low)? It appears it was auto from factory, my data says the sister car was also an auto. It looks like factory colour was metallic blue (114) and not the earlier solid 903 blue. Either way blue is rare of all the 420 odd cars I've recorded so far (HS30s) only 12 are 903 or 114 Blue. That's 2.8% of all HS30's.* *Of course that's what I've recorded so far.. I've seen a few Blue 240z's over the years, not sure if they are all originally blue though! It also explain why I've never seen an HS30 with Blue/Blue colour combo before. So few Blue ones to start with and the blue interior is rare enough, let alone a combo of the 2.

Looks like good buying and blue is quite a rare colour for a 240z as far as I can tell.
-
Only way to know for sure is to cc the head and then calculate your compression ratio in my humble opinion of course. You could retard ignition timing to compensate and run premium fuel but you may find little wiggle room.. My L28 runs an early E88 head with flat tops, gets a bit of pinging under load, but plan to regraph distributor. In the interim octane booster in the tank seems to shut it up.

Photo you posted is for reproduction sets. A few on eBay. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DATSUN-240z-TAIL-LIGHT-ASSEMBLY-PAIR/272987436001?epid=6011584680&hash=item3f8f51b3e1:g:NrMAAOSwry1aN3eD https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DATSUN-JDM-240Z-260Z-280Z-TAIL-LAMP-LIGHT-ASSY/202221909000?hash=item2f155d7408:g:9TAAAOSwiCRUmTaz https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-240Z-Fairlady-Z-Tail-lamp-Euro-type-Reproduction-Sport-look-import-Japan/232604032904?hash=item362847df88:g:iVUAAOSwfVhaOzRx If you want the original "Koito" stamped lamps that's a different story however.

The internal panel will be the same regardless of year 240z, the outer 1/4 panel can vary but just weld up the circular vent hole if req. In terms of cost the expensive bit will be the 1/4 panel, I already have a couple of folks interested in rear 1/4's on driver side. The inner section however I am hoping will come with an entire rear cut. But I won't know prices until I present the list of demands to Crow in the US who can then give me a run down on more exact pricing.

Looks fabulous.
