NZeder Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Very nice LY there...want that in betwen my strut towers! Now I have been sitting on this a while now....but I found out about that some time ago and it is not an LY the engineering that has gone into make this head look like that is nothing but outstanding. Now the original site I found has many many pics of the build. You all will be surprised to know the head is common and in Oz will be easy to find. Now all we need is the guy to make the other parts available for sale with info on how to do the rest This pic will give you an idea on the work that went into this build Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 16, 2011 Moderators Posted February 16, 2011 Well that fooled me! hahaha You'd never guess that was a custom one off. Some more pics would be nice.. Quote
NZeder Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I will let this thread run a little longer while people think about this and then I might let a little more info go slowly yes I know bit of tease but it is a very interesting build and does get the old grey matter working. But for now I will Quote
NZeder Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 FYI here is a pic of a real LY Ford OHC? Mercedes? Keep guessing Quote
BenZed Posted February 16, 2011 Author Posted February 16, 2011 seems too different to be an RB30E head, but then again... Quote
C.A.R. Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I'm thinking Toyota at this stage... Edit: Damnit Mike - JUST TELL US!!! Quote
peter mc Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 rb30 with lots of work is my guess with custom rocker cover Quote
NZeder Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Ok.......ok pressure.... Some more pics then. One of these is the real LY head The other is the donor this was built on in its natural form. Peter you are correct it is a custom cover as in the sump and the intake manifold all cast in a foundry. Last pic is the head during the rework phase. Quote
peter mc Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 i revise my guess rb20 sc the real yb head at the top then the rb heads Quote
RB30X Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 The one at the top is RB30 with the rockers showing and so are some of the other pics with the evenly spaced exhaust ports. As for the heads with the odd spaced ports? Quote
NZeder Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 The odd spaced head is the FIA LY cylinder head made by Nissan back in the day that was FIA approved and sold off the sports option catalogue. Also homologated for Group 4. I know of a local cylinder head business here in NZ that makes/cast/sells new head for the Nissan Z20/24 range of engines. Now have a close look at these heads (see here) http://www.kiwicylinderheads.com/modelphototest.asp?partid=68&productid=&companyid=5 and compare to the FIA head above.....see where I am going with this. Now we just need these guys to cast up one with the extra 2 cylinders and we have a FIA replica head Quote
RB30X Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Well those with the keen eye that spotted the small separator Plate between the rb30 head and L series block should very interested. Cheap Crossflow L series anyone? Quote

peter mc Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 hahah if only it was that easy the work this guy has put in to this head is incredable lots of work on the oil in and out side of things for a head that has bad ports but it looks real cool Quote
DatPilot Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 golly I wish I could thing of stuff like that. Maybe I'll make a thread on how my uncle got his RB30e crank to fit in the L28 block.... Quote

BenZed Posted February 17, 2011 Author Posted February 17, 2011 as in the sump and the intake manifold all cast in a foundry. Sump appears to be a Kameari cast sump. Quote
NZeder Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Sump appears to be a Kameari cast sump. yes it does look like it....but here is pic of the their sump fresh out of the cast. And also the wooden pattern they made cast these up Having access to a foundry would be so so cool Quote
BenZed Posted February 21, 2011 Author Posted February 21, 2011 Too bad it doesn't have the oil control flaps etc of the Kameari one Quote
260DET Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Arizona Z make the Kameari sumps so I'm told. Quote
