Scoota G Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I have another major project on my hands which may bear a little more relevance than my last client based work i showed you guys. As the title says i'm fitting an SR20DET to a 1980 Datsun 200B. Quote
benny Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 awesome project scoot!! If you need any parts or whatever hit up nissansilvia.com Quote
RB30X Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Nice. Is it going to be a sleeper or all JDM spec? Quote
Agno Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Very cool. IRS rear end or the railway sleeper of the later model 200B? Quote
Scoota G Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 Nice. Is it going to be a sleeper or all JDM spec? Sleeper even with stock hupcaps Very cool. IRS rear end or the railway sleeper of the later model 200B? This one has the non irs i have read you can convert) Check out engine test fit pics below. I also heard of people using R31 or S13 engine mounts but i tried it with the stock 200B items. Quote
Agno Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 It is possible to convert to IRS... But the rear end needs to be completely chopped and changed as the rear section was extensively modified to fit the localised rear end. Will still boogie regardless of the rear end! Quote
Scoota G Posted November 8, 2011 Author Posted November 8, 2011 Should be a bit of fun I fitted an inexpensive 240Z coilover conversion to the front, an s13 sway bar to clear the sump (which requires a modification to the front chassis bracing) and i'm using 200B hubs with Modified 260Z discs and S12+8 Toyota Hilux calipers. The transmission crossmember is the 200B centre with S13 ends required to position the transmission mounting point back 20mm. Quote
Quandary Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 I miss my 200B. The chassis is incredibly rigid. I bet it will handle your SR20 no problem. Quote
Gyra Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Awesome project. My first datto was a very mint 180b station wagon with the SSS carbs - sold years ago, but I really want it back! (anyone seen reg IKZ-479?....) The SR20 looks a really nice fit in there! How hard is it to get something like this registered? I presume that's what the brake upgrade is for. Quote
Scoota G Posted November 9, 2011 Author Posted November 9, 2011 How hard is it to get something like this registered? I presume that's what the brake upgrade is for. Not sure on the legality of the conversion but i'm doing the whole package so it stops and handles as well as it goes. We only just registered the car a few weeks ago and then fitted a downdraft weber and electronic ignition. It blew the head gasket not long after. We added up the bills to turbo the L- Series and decided the SR20 was a far better option. Quote
Scoota G Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 Yesterday was a busy day, parts arrived tuesday which gave me time earlier in the week to finish the brake setup. I ended up using modified 260Z discs and hubs but i want to change to 240Z struts on the front to fit the bigger disc. The standard 200B discs are 245mm diameter. The engine, gearbox and 30mm shorter tailshaft are now fitted. The stock clutch slave cylinder bolts straight up and as you can see the shifter is not to far off from where the stock one protrudes. Z Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 This has to be the quickest mod ever! First post on Oct 31 and you prob have new driveline, engine and brakes etc before xmas! This is not possible Awesome Scoota. Quote

This is not possible Awesome Scoota. Yes, Scoota is one motivated dude. He and Rev put most of us to shame :'( Quote
Scoota G Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 Honestly i can't take all the credit, these 200B's are nearly perfect for this conversion. The intercooler, intake and and blow off valve only require two fittings (in transit) to be completed. Next stage will be the wiring and i hope to fire her at the end of this week. Quote
RBZ 260 Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 love it. awsome job. you going to love the sr20det. Crazy little engine. had mine for over 12years now and still going strong. I gave it reasonable hard time over those years. Quote
Scoota G Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 Going to have to get the owner (Sam) to join one of our cruises. I have the intercooler plumbed and my next job is to tackle the wiring with this neat little diagram. Quote
Scoota G Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 Most everything is done now except for fuel pump, engine wiring (which i'm sending away to an expert), fan and exhaust. Just waiting on parts now which will take two weeks. Quote
Riceburner Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Looking good Mark. With the break upgrade, are 200b hubs the same bolt pattern as zeds and do they take the same bearings? Just thinking, if they are the same and have the same 25mm hub face thickness then these could be used as an alternative to 260 hubs for the magna & 12+8 vented upgrade.... Also what sort of spring rates to the coil overs come in? Quote
Scoota G Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 Looking good Mark. With the break upgrade, are 200b hubs the same bolt pattern as zeds and do they take the same bearings? Also what sort of spring rates to the coil overs come in? The bearings are the same, the hubs are slightly thinner and the same bolt pattern (i'll take a measurement and report back). Spring rates for the coilovers are 5Kg front 6Kg rear. I'm just finishing up the little jobs now. Quote
Linton Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Damn you blokes are clever that looks awesome :D Quote
Riceburner Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Thanks for that Mark. Damn tidy install, looks like it was made for that engine bay Quote
Riceburner Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 That will be a great Xmas present for the owner, perhaps you should deliver it in a Santa suit Quote
Scoota G Posted January 1, 2012 Author Posted January 1, 2012 That will be a great Xmas present for the owner, perhaps you should deliver it in a Santa suit I'm grey enough in the beard deparment but not nearly fat enough For the last few days i've been doing some product testing and development but had an issue with one of the intercooler pipes blowing off just after i had the 3" mandrel bent exhaust fitted. I limped her home and fixed it but now a couple of days later she has developed a misfire. Sometimes it will fart and pop then all of a sudden it gets a huge surge of power like it has a rocket strapped to it. List of mods is as follows Black Top SR20DET Chrome Moly Flywheel GkTech Exhaust Manifold S15 GT28r Garrett Turbo Adjustable boost Commodore fuel pump 70psi 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust Front mount Intercooler The car still runs the stock ecu which we have a Mines ecu on the way to replace. It only started running like this when we put BP 95 in it but i'm just seeing if anyone here has any hints before i go chasing the issue. I am thinking i fouled the plugs when she fueled up! Quote
