Graedat Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Hello members, I have decided to rebuild the Zed. Engine and box replacement and a bare metal respray. I have decided to sell the Chev and supra box and source a RB26DETT with a RB25DET 5 speed. Lots to do and heaps of work ahead of me so I thought I would keep track of the whole build and tell my story. Starting the stripping down. Quote
C.A.R. Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 WTF Graham?! Bit of a downgrade to the RB26 from the Chev! LS Series Chev FTW! Quote
Graedat Posted November 23, 2012 Author Posted November 23, 2012 I want to make her all Nissan, straight six turbo all the way! Quote
Ledge Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Hi LSX Yawn, may as well put an evinrude outboard in it. RB26DETT with all the fruit will scare the living s##t out of you Cheers Quote
pauly_adams Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 i like that idea but one thing, look at a z32 twin turbo box there much stonger then rb25 Quote
Graedat Posted November 23, 2012 Author Posted November 23, 2012 I have started the stripping process, paint stripper and elbow grease. I have unearthed a few little problem areas but she is pretty straight. Advertised the Chev and it sold within a week. I have sourced a RB26 and a 25 box with a few parts included, so that should be here any day now. Let the stripping continue. Quote
mossy Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Are you going to use this kit http://mckinneymotorsports.com/prod_240+260+280Z+parts or build one yourself? Quote
nizm0zed Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 fu<k yea!!! I'll be watching this one for sure, this car was early inspiration for mine when i first go it. Quote
Brabham Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 +1 for the RB26. Love that Nissan turbo power What kind of HP will you be asking from it? Did you consider a 30/26? Cheers Quote
dat240z Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Nice mate, just be wary of mckinney kit, although good (i use engine/box race mounts) the rb25 box sits very close to the tunnel and as a result its difficult to install a speedo drive unless your willing to cut a hole in your tunnel. I used a GPS electronic speedo with new white autometre guages. Other than that the shifter sits in stock position, engine sits in bay way back (about an inch off firewall) and its all good quality... Quote
Graedat Posted November 24, 2012 Author Posted November 24, 2012 Thanks for the comments guys. Are you going to use this kit http://mckinneymotorsports.com/prod_240+260+280Z+parts or build one yourself? I was looking at those mounts but might go the Castlemaine Rodshop mounts. Thanks Dat240z I have been studying the Hybridz Nissan RB forum, some guys there have had trouble with the speedo drive also. Dash out, I have to get to that heater core! Started the engine bay the other day. Quote
Graedat Posted November 26, 2012 Author Posted November 26, 2012 Here is a few more pics of the stripping. Quote
Magnet Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 I like LS engines but just doesn't seem super legit in a Z. Rb26 is perfect, mate had a 3540 with external gate on one, best sounding car in the world, sounds like a fighter jet i like that idea but one thing, look at a z32 twin turbo box there much stonger then rb25 Rb25 and z32 boxes are the same, rb20 is the box that's weaker Quote
Graedat Posted November 27, 2012 Author Posted November 27, 2012 Thanks for the box info magnet. I think the best sounding Z I have heard is Ledgers car. Quote
Ledge Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Hi Graedat If you mean my car Did you look at both youtube links ? Quote
Graedat Posted November 27, 2012 Author Posted November 27, 2012 Yes I did mate. It sounds amazing. What type of exhaust are you running and how loud is it? Quote
Graedat Posted November 27, 2012 Author Posted November 27, 2012 Received my engine and box on Monday. Very excited! Quote
zzzzed Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Nice. You won't regret this one. I have been in lots of chev power cars. And none of them scared me like my bosses gtr skyline. Quote
Ledge Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 HI Graedat It has 3 inch dump pipes into single 4 inch pipe then after about a metre back into 3 inch them out the side of the car just near rear of passenger door. Because of two turbos and its a track only car it doesn't need a muffler. To be honest is really isn't stupid loud anyway. Yeah at 9000 rpm it gets up there. Hey mick imagine your bosses GTR engine in something that weighs 600kg less mmmmm yeah RB26 all the way man Paul Quote
zzzzed Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 The mind boggles. Willall racing built my bosses gtr. He dosnt have it anyore though. Quote
Fairlady Z Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Woohoo. I loved ur car always just wasn't a fan of the engine. not that is a bad engine just it was wrong brand. Cool another RB26 Monster to be created. pitty my car and RB26 are collecting dust atm. :'(I will get to it. Good luck not that you will need any but progress pics are must. good motivator. Quote
