peter mc Posted May 14, 2012 Author Posted May 14, 2012 just getting gordos carbs sorted , lucky we took them apart so many parts are different , spent some time getting 3 carbs all the same , i think gordo wont know him self when he drives this thing Quote
luvemfast Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Carbs not matched? That would explain all the trouble Gordo's been having with them. But how has he been so quick all these years? Good driving in a poor set up. Man, how fast in a good set up? Quote
peter mc Posted May 14, 2012 Author Posted May 14, 2012 just goes to show how in-portant the man behind the wheel is and Gordo knows how to do it Quote
d3c0y Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Just a tip dont soak them in degreaser or pull the butterflies and throttle shafts out... Quote
luvemfast Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Just a tip dont soak them in degreaser or pull the butterflies and throttle shafts out... What did you do Jake? Quote

Brabham Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Awesome work Peter sounds nice. Will have to get you to build me an engine one day too, love the work . What power figures did you reach and what size are the carbs? Cheers. Quote
peter mc Posted May 20, 2012 Author Posted May 20, 2012 I don't wont to say as its a race car , Gordo can say if he wants ,, all ill say its very healthy and over 300 the carbs are 45mm Weber's , with 42mm chokes we will have it back on the dyno on Tuesday with new pipes to see if we can inprove the fuel mixtures Quote
Brabham Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Would there be any benefit in going bigger on the carbs or would you just be over-fuelling the engine? Wondering if it is worth going to 50mm Mikuni's or 50 or 55 Webber's. Cheers. Quote
peter mc Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 Well you can put 50mm and bigger but as you go bigger you start to have problems under 5000 its a bit dodgy 50 and bigger are all out race cabs or for a bigger motor for 2.9 45mm carbs will make 310hp and that's it ... 50mm will make more after 5000rpm if you have a cr gear box and 4.3 diff and a real race motor 12.5 comp and rev it to 9000 rpm your 50 are all go Quote
Brabham Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Thanks Pete. Would also love to get you to build me an RB30/26DETT one day if you are willing to build more engines. However, I have to finish project Datsun #1 before I get to this. Cheers Quote
V8Datto Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Thanks Pete. Would also love to get you to build me an RB30/26DETT one day if you are willing to build more engines. I second that Quote
Gordo Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 The Eagle has landed. Many thanks to Peter and Les. Quote
peter mc Posted May 22, 2012 Author Posted May 22, 2012 thanks Gordo we are very happy with the resolts and hope you have a ball with it thanks pmc Quote
Gordo Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Hi guys, I will put the engine in tomorrow , but the 3.9 diff that I have been using is to low. My 4.1 is having a makeover and should be ready early next week. Like Pete says could almost do with a 4.3 as this engine reves hard. But will put the 4.1 in and see how it goes. So if I get my act together I might be burning rubber next weekend. I also plan on putting it on a chassis Dyno to see how many killer bees it makes at the wheels. cheers . Quote
luvemfast Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Where you getting it dynoed? Can I come for a looksie? Check them out for when I'm ready too Quote
Gordo Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 An up date guys. Started her up today, wonce warm idled nicely at 1000rpm. Went for a drive and the first thing I noticed was how smooth down low it was and the torque was awesome , with a 76 high lift I didn't think it would pull clean in 5th gear from 1500rpm, was so drivable ,like a road car, for the first time I can see this car having no problem doing drive days with the guys. Putting the boot into it, she just pulled and pulled. 7500rpm in 2nd and changing into 3rd with the boot to the floor all the way to 7500rpm, woo way to fast, backed out of it and drove home with a big smile on my face. Thanks to Peter and Les Collins I have the car I was ment to have all those years ago. Going up my drive way in 2nd from 1000rpm pulled smoothly all the way to the shed, you can't beat that, so much drivability I am blowen away how much better the car is. Looking forward to Sandown . Happy face here. Cheers Gordon. Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted June 4, 2012 Administrators Posted June 4, 2012 I definitely know who will be helping build my stroker when time comes. I want to know how much quicker you'll be around the track now Quote
Gordo Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Don't want to jump the gun Guys, the car feels. good, just won't to have some fun and do a competitive time, and Gareth I have to get a new vid camera as the old one died. Have to talk to Dimiti to see what he thinks is a good buy ATM. I could have noise issues at Sandown and may need to tread carefully ,if you now what I mean.Cheers. Quote
