PeterAllen Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I've heard many dramatic stories about the Datsun wiper motor so I thought I would try to install the Holden wiper motor that came with my LS1 donor car. Mechanically it's a piece of cake, so simple (details later). The problem I have is that it doesn't operate. Electrically I don't know an amp from an ohm but I have ended up with a 5 pin connector from the one-off wiring loom that was made up for the car (Killa Kustom Kables) and a mating 5 pin connector on the wiper motor. Can someone suggest how I could use a multimeter to try and match the pins themselves. Thanks Quote
RB30X Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Do you have a VZ or 240Z wiring diagram? I copied this from a service manual for ya. 28113_e8d92b3f26c3cf61405b1fae57d65cd687b5bec9.doc Quote
PeterAllen Posted March 1, 2012 Author Posted March 1, 2012 Okay - thanks to the HYQ (RB30X) the wiring is all figured out and the motor works perfectly... now the arms. The 'soft' spacers are pretty well buggered; can I buy new ones or does someone know the shape of the originals so I can find/make replacements? Thanks Quote
aussie240z Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I did the Honda wiper motor swap a few months back but went a little further by also using the honda arms and linkages. The zed ones were aging and the centre bores and swivel arms were both worn so I "adapted" the honda arms, bushes and connecting arms. This gave me the clip on nylon caps as well as a new seating with nylon bushes. I took a few photos of the steps i went through and will do a quick build doc and post. Ended up i got the newer/stable wiper motor, no looseness in the swivel arms (with nylon bushes) and more stable connecting arms. Initially I wasn't going for looks but functionality and intend to "finesse' the job at some stage with better finish all over. At this stage, it was to make it all work. will drop the build outline shortly Quote
PeterAllen Posted March 1, 2012 Author Posted March 1, 2012 Ian - I will be keen to see your writeup. From what you are saying I think the Holden has the same ball-joint arrangement. In fact the hole size on the Datsun link arm is the same size as the socket end of the Holden so it was a fairly simple matter of swapping the different fittings. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted March 1, 2012 Administrators Posted March 1, 2012 I'm eager to watch this space since I've had my fair share of lights on at night, wipers on, indicators on, stereo on and everything moving very very slowly . The 240z wipers unfortunately don't do a great job. 1 Solution is of course not to drive in the rain Quote
PeterAllen Posted March 1, 2012 Author Posted March 1, 2012 Gavin - I don't want to pre-empt want Ian may write but mounting a new motor is very straightforward (drill three new holes). The rotating arm off the motor is the same configuration as the Datsun so the wiper movement is exactly the same. The Holden motor is made in the UK (not Lucas I hope!) and someone suggested there are only a few manufactures in the world who supply all the car makers so there should be a great deal of commonality with motors. As shown above, the Holden ball/socket fit straight on to the Datsun linkages. The tricky part, for me anyway, was the wiring but I sure any sparkie could work it out in a flash - no pun intended. However, as you can see I now have a u-beaut motor driving old linkages and fittings. Quote
aussie240z Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Have attached w rite up if it assist at all. The PDF outlines what I did with the Honda assemblies and may provide some assistance if anyone is thinking of something similar. Cheers Ian 28773_e4d28f914ce909ec3f98d35a8c0cb5a803d3d60d.pdf Quote
ultrasuede Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Not to revive a super old thread, but i just finished spending the better half of 5 hours putting in a wiper motor i scored for $20 from the wreckers, out of a 2012 Ford something something (lost the piece of paper with the model written on it) With no wiring guide for the new motor, I went through 3 fuses and 1 set of batteries for my multimeter. Finally it works! But it doesn't go back to reset position for some reason, I think the relay that resets the motor position is seperate from the wiper motor. Quote
zeds4ever Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 Peter I bought a VT/VU/VX/VY/VZ Commodore front wiper motor circa 2004 , Turns out the color code is different from what yours is . The colors are Black=N Red=A Blue=A Brown & Green=A=Park Red to active gives slow speed , Red plus Blue to active gives fast speed , Brown plus Green give park position Regards:Alan . Quote
