positivetennis Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I was just curious as to whether anybody knows anything about the 280zx' raced by Peter Mckay in group E productrion racing. From the photos I have seen they looked like series 2 models with the bonnet duct and side window treatment but were hard tops. Did they specially imports these cars for racing as you could not get hard tops usually after 1979, even though I've seen a few 81's going around (possibly j spec imports). Or were they 1979 models that were modified? Are these cars still around somewhere? Does anyone have a 1982-83 2+2 Aust hardtop? Quote
zzzzed Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I wrecked an 82 hard top not to long ago Quote
260DET Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Stick the photos up, I'm sure there will be interest. Re hardtops, as far as I know they were available ex Japan. Quote
positivetennis Posted January 13, 2012 Author Posted January 13, 2012 Thanks guys, I'll try to scan some pictures up. I do remember that Mckay's 280zx finished second many times. The car that was leading group E at the time was a Volvo 242GT. The 280zx had a 1983 black side clinker covering the side B pillar. Quote
pauly_adams Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 i have a 82 zx hard top and its aus delivered , i originally thought it was a 79 then i actually looked at the build date and its a 82 hard top and i must say its the cleanest z Ive seen only has 2 little rust holes in the drivers door and she's all bog free. long story short they do exist cheers Pauly Quote
luvemfast Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 The 2 seaters are mostly hardtops. Dad has a 2+2 hardtop in his garage. Unsure of the year though Quote
dat2kman Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I got some early to late 1980's Australian Motor Racing Yearbooks, and theres pics of other 280's as well, i think Peter Giddings, had one, could be the same, from Amaroo and Oran Park. I'll rustle them out, take digi pics, and i can stick pics on my pc. Then send me your email addy, cos i still cant work out a simple easy way to shrink to forum site freindly size. Dont picasa me! Moderators Zedman240® Posted January 15, 2012 Moderators Posted January 15, 2012 Jason, Quickest way to resize I found is with Windows Paint; right click the image you want to change, Choose "open with" and select "Paint" Once it opens in that Windows Paint program select "Image" from the menus along the top Select "Stretch / Skew" and you will see the top pair "Stretch Horizontal 100%" and "Vertical 100%" and change the percentage for bothe equaly. If its a big 2 meg file, around 40% will do but anything smaller, around 50-60% should be fine. You can play with different percantages.. Hope that helps. Quote
dat2kman Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 last pic its Peter Gidings car Group E mainly Amarooa, and oran park Quote
luvemfast Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Do you have a scanner Jason? I'd like to read the text too On a side note...... Its official, Black 280's are the fastest ones Quote
dat2kman Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Yes, i do have a scanner it is in the cupboard do i know how it works and how to use it??? no easier for me to take a digi pic, resize using the MS paint thingy Dimitri told me about, and shrinki it, then post on here, just need a steady hand, those pics were a bit blurry! I cant see the screen on back of digi cam that well! Quote
Agno Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Check your camera settings and see if there is a "Macro mode" option. The little symbol is a flower Quote
260DET Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 A bloke came up to me at Lakeside a couple of years ago when I had the 280ZX there sprinting, said he used to race them back in the day and how well they went. I was pretty distracted with what was going on so I did not get his details, pity. Quote
