matt drago Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Hey George, Nice shots. Can I assume by the shot of the lens cap that you have gotten yourself a CanonDSLR? Which one did you get? I've got a 10D with a few lenses. I play a little and would like to do more, but between work, trying to get the Z back on the road and getting the house ready for my wife's and my first little one, there just ain't enought hours in the day I'll hopefully be down at PI for the 'nats and give my 70-200 a bit of a work out. Cheers, Matt Quote
George Posted March 18, 2007 Author Posted March 18, 2007 hi matt yes i got myself a 400D. im really happy with it after returning the first one due to sensor dust that was too stubborn to be blown away. the 10d's are very nice. i'd love the 30d but the budget just doesnt stretch that far. i might be at the nats and if im there the camera will be getting a big workout. George Posted March 18, 2007 Author Posted March 18, 2007 all up it was 1700 with two lenses, a memory card, bag and card reader. it was comparative to ebay prices but from a store in sydney. Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 yea i got similar, canon 350d from an insurance claim, had to buy bag, 2gb card sling style bag etc, worst thing about these DSLR's is the bloody CF cards. crap old mechanical technology, carefull of the pins in the camera or in my case the reader slot on my printer!!!! bloody miss's got no reapect   bent 2 pins and took my an hour to straighten them. lucky  nato oh yea the 75-300 is great at the races clipsal 500 a couple of weeks back!! Toecutter Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Hi George, I also enjoy photography but have tucked my Pentax film SLR away some time ago. I use a small pocket Cannon and do a bit of touching up with photoshop, but it sucks not having a zoom so I take the company camera out when I want to get arty. I hope to buy the new K10 Pentax SLR when it comes down to a good price and use my existing lenses with it. I've also been having fun with my miniDV camera. I bought a mini DV camera for video about a year ago and when time allows hoping to make some more Z videos. I hope to organise a cruise down the Great Ocean Road some time after Dat Nats with a sleep over somewhere past Lorne, hopefully get some nice footage of the long sweeping cliffe edge runs. My fave Z shot to date below, this one was taken with a little pocket Cannon digi cam with fixed lense: Quote
sexual_sushi Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Heya, i work as a retoucher for a photo studio. I'm working on opening an online retouching site (mainly for cars, see pics below) and eventually lead into car photography aswell. Still need to buy my own camera, i just borrow ones from work atm. I'll post details when i get it up and running, there will be discounts for club members Edits: Originals: Quote
Toecutter Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 hey sexual sushi that looks excellent! Ah thats Nigels "old" car hey!? Quote
zedevan Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 that looks awesome, the only thing i think that could b improved is the blur lines on the ground should go horizontally, instead of a zoom type blur, since there are none down the bottom so is putting a weird direction onto it which isn't there took a couple of shots using my bros 300D (bought it as said the newer ones are to small and then the other ones out of price range lol) at the f1 yesterday, will upload some when i have time Quote
dave_hl Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Where abouts at the F1 were you evan? I was working as event staff on the inside of turn 3 in the corporate section. By the way seeing as cameras are on topic, does anyone know if the olympus mju 770 is a good buy. Just been realesed. It's one of the water proof/shock proof/crush proof ones. i can get it for about $520 + xd card + case etc from dick smith. No online reviews as yet, but it looks pretty nice as i could take it diving and trail riding etc without worrying about it. Quote
zedevan Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 i was just in there as general admin, so was around turn 2-11 at different times i was thinking one of those shock and water proof cameras would be good just to take everywhere, however their picture quality and ability doesn't compare to a DSLR, but still for the price etc you may as well as you'd get more use out of it i assume? but you should buy some rims first is hte mju770 one of the ones with titanium cases? i wouldn't mind camping in a backyard or something possibly for a night over easter, only reason i'm not is coz i'm disorganised and couldn't commit, when are the actual dates of easter? Quote
dave_hl Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 well the mju770 doesn't have an external case to make it waterproof and all that, it just has good seals. its 7.1 megapixel but i'll get my bro or other friends who are into cameras to see if its other specs like the lens and all that is any good. should be good enough quality, I dont need the sort of crazy quality from an SLR. dunno about titanium... its got anti scratch-ness... hmmm. RE: wheels.... My car isn't really my financial priority at the moment, except for $80 i just spent to put some sound in it. I'm probably gonna blow 900 ish on a bike and then 600 on this camera. (just earnt ~1100 at the F1  ) I'll give my mate a buzz to see if he'll be down there once i get some dates for going. Quote
Toecutter Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Sexual Sushi, you gotta get some of your Z pics posted up on the galleries for easy reference and for others to admire! Cheers, Sulio Quote

George Posted March 24, 2007 Author Posted March 24, 2007 took some street pics yesterday. street stuff is pretty hard i think but i like it. his guy was holding up the wall, i'm sure of it. busted! cool little skater kid. going home finally! Quote
onrelas Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Some nice photos guys. I'm into photoghraphy a bit too. Got a 400D at the end of last year, and i think its a fantastic camera for first time DSLR users. I've also used a Nikon D70s to take product shots for somebody in a studio wich was nice too. Do any of you have pages on www.flickr.com ? It a good place to store pics in albums etc if you like, we could make a Zcar group on there also, and post pics up (when i eventually get my Z  ) I'll upload some pics when i get on my other computer. Quote
Toecutter Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Nice photo's George. Great hobby especially with digital cameras in that you can just walk around and look for something that would make a great photo with most oblivious to the details you focusing on, sort of forces you to slow things done a notch and really take your surroundings in. I've always thought a medium size zoom lense is good for those street shots as it helps keep people candid as you can take shots from a distance with less notice on the camera. Just post your photos on the sites gallery!? I think it needs a lot more quality pics. Ohhh...so tempting to go out and buy a new camera. Quote
George Posted March 25, 2007 Author Posted March 25, 2007 thanks. first day out with my camera i was really shy and did use a zoom lens but they come out different. zoom lenses don't suit street photography. second day out i was mainly out there to try and get over the shyness and it worked to a degree. i really did get in peoples faces, so to speak, and the photos were better for it. you know you want a camera! can't wait to get some quality long exposures of the car at night. onrelas, http://flickr.com/photos/two40/ don't think i'll be using it too much. just trying it out for now. oh there is a pic of my old Z on there one more from martin place.
