Administrators gav240z Posted March 10, 2011 Administrators Posted March 10, 2011 Hi Guys, This is a general question although it still applies to your projects. However I'm wondering what methods you use to find parts you need. What I'm looking for is a list of websites, contacts, tools you use to find the part you need? If you are in the trade I'd also appreciate some info on how it might differ for you in the trade when it comes to finding parts you need. Has anyone ever had luck with any of the car part search engines? If so which 1? I'm toying with the idea of building a car part search engine to help people find new and used parts for their cars. Ledge Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Hi Gav You know its amazing how useful the internet is now days for finding bits and pieces. I don't use any one spot , Useally google or ebay what I'm looking for then troll through the million hits you get, very time consuming. For the workshop we use suppliers such as motor traders, rare spares etc etc for anything that we think is still available but as we specialize in old cars most of the time is spent phoning yes that's right phoning our old parts contacts that wouldn't no what the net was let alone email. Think back 20 years before the net, How did we get any work done is beyond me. Some sort of Parts Google would be useful to say the least. Something to sort out the Actual parts from the wasted web pages. You know what would be good as well. If it only came up with pages or adds that have been listed or modified in say the last 6 months. Nothing worse than getting excited cause you found a part then realize it was listed 10 bloody years ago. Regards Paul Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 10, 2011 Moderators Posted March 10, 2011 One good way I find hard to get bits is by politely asking members on HybridZ; the last two times I have done that, they have been extremely helpful and patient. Once I imported a complete vinyl interior for the zed and a turbo 280ZX distributor which you cannot find here at all; unless you pry it out of someones cold dead hand. Like Paul, either eBay Aust or US is a good start. edit: spelling boo boo's! Quote
620Z Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 That's a good idea Gavin. Probably only want to put up tried and tested contacts. Maybe even have a 5 star rating system against them. As some will be average and some will be great suppliers of parts. Quote
Linton Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Gav I am a new member here and I have had a z for about a month. like this great forum I am a member of each of my toys forums, and I check each one every day I read as much as I can, to gleen out that elusive part or supplier, I commend you for your plan of a part search engine to help members, I think all you can do is request from members genuine links or contact details to a parts suppliers and develope from there, it would be nice to have more premium vendors on board also a good way for the site to make some dollars, I look at this site all the time and just wish we could get even some of the gear locally :'( here's your first one. http://www.motorsportauto.com/ Linton Quote
Sirpent Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Gav I know this may not be a parts supplier, however in my travels on the net I came across a listing of parts with Nissan part numbers and also a plethora of pic links for the listed items. This may serve as a good search media for obscure parts for members. It wouldn't be bad if this could be incorporated somehow with the links into our database, just an idea. peter mc Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 AUS has more parts than most no the only problem is that is cheaper to get the parts from the USA as our labour is very expensive. i try and by parts hear but it makes it hard to make a profit on parts ,but there are lot of z shops hear and we should support them in any way we can it would be a shame to see them go Quote
zr240 Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I go out to my shed first If that fails I look on this site, ebay, hybridz and if that fails its probably not available! Ash Quote
Gordon Dobie Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Having retired five years ago I am in the process of winding up my business and will be selling off all of my stock and equipment. I have a number of low mileage Z engines and gearboxes diffs etc. Some of these have done as little as 20,000 miles. I also have a small number of body panels. Any auszcar members are welcome to these parts at about half of their real value. Gordon Dobie datcar54@hotmail.com Quote
