reverendzed Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 hey guys, Just received this email. If it's real I'm OK to help but if it's a fake someone needs to let 'Garvice' know what's happening. here's what i received minutes ago. Hello, I'm sorry I didn't inform anyone about my trip to London, United Kingdom. Unfortunately I was mugged at gun point, at the hotel park am staying. My mobile phone, cash and credit card was stolen but luckily for me I still have my passport. I was able to make contact with the UK Police and directed to the Australia Consulate, but they seems to be taking things too slow. My flight leaves in few hrs from now, and am having problems settling the hotel bills. I already suggested to postpone the bills but the hotel management insisted I should contact my family & friends at home to send funds my way to settle bills and also have extra money to return home. Please get back to me asap. Thanks, Bradley Garvice Walters Cheers, Rev Quote
PZG302 Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I have seen reports of this type of email as a new scam, also done by hijacking facebook pages as well. If it is a genuine problem, then the hotel and credit card companies are usually OK with making arrangements, especially with police report. Quote
garvice Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Sorry about that mate, some one has got into my GMAIL account. Probably a good idea to start changing some of my passwords, have been getting lasy with that. Quote
Thomo260 Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I got the same email just now Rev. Thought the name sounded familiar, that's how I found this thread. Interesting. Quote
garvice Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Oh yeah, I have tried to freeze the account so if anymore emails come through can you let me know on this thread. Cheers, Brad Quote
620Z Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Well if I got it I would have left him there. That's the price for going to the UK anyway. Ha Ha Ha Na in these instances you have to correspond directly with the person before sending any money. By that I mean by phone or back and forth on email to verify some details. Cold contacts like those are pretty easy to pick. As if you lose everything except your passport anyway. Quote
reverendzed Posted January 17, 2011 Author Posted January 17, 2011 Just glad to know you're OK man. freaking crooks trying to prey on people who actually give a rip! they need to get a job!...and a life. Rev. Quote

dat2kman Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Dear members, I am in Tokyo right now, and am off to Kameari Engine Works tomorrow, then to Nismo then Zama Storage wharehouse on Wednesdat, then to the Nissan engine museum on Thursday, and being a regular tourist, as well as a bit of skiing at Nagano next week. I have not had anything stolen, and the cops here wouldn't understand me anyway. Just love this place! Found best sushi joint, 150 yen a plate three mins walk from hotel in Shinjuku. Using trains on a SUICA card, cheap, but cant get iPad microsim card for gps navigation, Just have to log in on hotel wifi, amazing place, Wangan expressway is fun! Will be ordering some sample engine parts from above, now, who else wants anything!! PS send no money I will bill you later!!! Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 17, 2011 Administrators Posted January 17, 2011 Just to clarify guys, these emails are being sent via your personal email addresses and not via the PM system correct? Quote
garvice Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Yeah that is right gav. Personal email. I had a bunch of these guys on my address book (gmail automatically stores them). Some one got into that account and sent emails to everyone in my address book. I put a report in with google, any idea how long three investigation takes? (i couldn't remember some details like my join date or activation codes etc) Quote

. Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Oh so the excuse is a hacked Email account? Is that why I got an Email asking me to donate my 240z to the Garvice relief fund?? Quote
garvice Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 ^ Dammit, was trying to benefit from it. And you thought the offer to house your Datsuns in my shed during the floods was out of the goodness of my heart. HA. Quote
peter t Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Pocession is 9/10 of the law. That is why my shed is available also. Just think of the bits you could nick. Just kidding guys. Good to have a good laugh at the moment. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Quote
sco_aus Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 The fact your whole name was signed at the end, would ring alarm bells. I have had the same email twice when advertising on allclassifieds.com.au and its the little things that Aussies wouldn't do that make you realize it, but thats just my experience anyway. Glad to hear your ok mate. lol Quote
garvice Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 ^ ha, that is my signature. Only way the would have known my full name I reckon. Brad Quote
sexual_sushi Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Hope you didn't get a nasty virus after googling sexual sushi the other day Quote
garvice Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 HA, I wasn't game enough to google that. Turns out google doesn't believe that I am who i say I am either. It seems silly, but you essentially need an email address as your backup for gmail so that you can have them verify that it is you. Who keeps multiple internet based email addresses? I have my work email and my personal email, that is it. Quote
