620Z Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Hi, I want to instal a new windscreen into my 260Z before the Thredbo trip. Does anyone have a good contact or am I better off just calling Windscreens Obrien. They seem pretty reputable and work in pairs plus they will do it at my home. Open to suggestions. Thanks Quote
Scoota G Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 I just got a New windscreen fitted from Windscreens O'brien and first they told me they couldn't get the first one out without breaking it. So i did and drove the car down with no windscreen. Then They fitted the new screen with a new rubber i supplied and damaged that in four different places putting the chrome trim on. Then they didn't clean it and when i did i found that you couldn't see through it properly, a condition that is know as "Hazing" and also it leaked in all four corners. I took it back and showed them and i'm still waiting to hear back from them, my advice, watch them put it in and look over their work very closely. Quote
Nacks Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 I recently had my windscreen replaced by Noves Windscreens in Mitcham. I had to get the rubber seal as Novus couldn't supply it, I got it from Rare Spares in Bayswater. All up it cost me just under $400 for the lot. Cheers Quote

Bloody Hell Scoot, its stories like that that make you wanna do everything yourself. They must have let the work experience kid do it. Quote
peter t Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 I used this guy in Brisbane. Paul 0418974122 Can't remember the company but he did a great job. New rubber was supplied by me. Rare Spares and as I was missing parts of the chrome surround he used the plastic chrome replacement. Give him a call and he can put you in touch with someone I'm sure. 12 months warranty an fitting and screen. Quote
lightmaster240z Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Craig I used Novus but there all use the same screen supplyer. Are you insured with Shanon because you get a new screen every year under there pollicy or at least check with who ever you are with. It may save you so dollars regrads Bruce Quote
620Z Posted January 6, 2011 Author Posted January 6, 2011 Thanks for your reply guys. Yes it will be covered by insurance. I reckon my existing rubber will be OK to use again. Maybe who ever I use I just ask them to send out their best guys to do a top quality job. Sort of lay down the law before they arrive. If they can't accommodate me then I can go elsewhere. :-\ Quote
Johnboy Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Hi, I was dissusing getting mine replaced with Daniel Moore recently as he can do them properly. Burwood, VIC. PH: 9808 2590 John Quote
gilltech Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 I had my front screen replaced on insurance & the glass supplied & installed was Australian made & clear, so if anything has that slight greenish tinge of clear glass, not the light blue tint that the original factory screen had so doesn't quite match the rest which to me is annoying. So check what's available first. I provided the rubber as it wasn't worth re-using the tired old one. Later I had windscreen guys remove the rear screen & install a new matching rubber at back. Both times I used the opportunity to make sure there was no rust in the body seam. Both times the guys struggled with getting the stainless steel trims to seat well at the corners & I ended up re-doing them. Quote
620Z Posted January 6, 2011 Author Posted January 6, 2011 Yeah I don't have the S/Steel surround on my rubbers. I didn't think of Daniel Moore. Thanks for the hints I will keep you posted. Cheers Quote

I thought i would do an update on Windscreens O'brien, they replaced my windscreen with another unit that is 100% better and even has a better fit around the top corners. Nothing wrong with their fitment just a wrong choice in glass supplier i guess. Anyways thanks muchly to the guys at Ballarat Autoglass for getting that sorted for me. Quote
KatoKid Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Craig. Just saw this and dont know if youve had yours replaced yet but I can strongly recommend a business called For A Windscreen, Mark Marley on 0418 374877. This guy does all the work for Porsche Australia and many other prestige dealers. David Quote
