JP240z Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 I'd suggest that you keep an eye on the tradingpost and carsales.com.au. watch out for anything with rust and 2+2's  . there are some nice zeds in these advertisers if you wait for the right ones. good luck with your search. Cheers, JP. Quote
Azman Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 exactly whats so wrong with a 2+2? especially as a first Z? I know I would rather have a 2+2 than no Z at all. Yes indeedy watch the rust! Quote
JP240z Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 lol...just having a go at u guys...and yes..a 2+2 is better than no Z. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Well the front half of a 2+2 is the same as a 2 seater, so you could say A 2+2 is half as good as a 2 seater. Quote
RBZ 260 Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 heheheh love the debates 2+2 VS 2 seater. well i didnt even know the diff when i bought my 260Z 2+2 (well i did but i thought they looked identical and i did need two so called extra seats so i preffered a 2+2) but after noticing the differences are lot more noticable. though now i have a 240z cause i couldnt resist the short wheelbase and preffer the rear lights over the 260Z so just had to have it but not as an everyday car bit impractical. after few month i didnt like the 2+2 but after noticing few nice ones around they aint bad after all. so i dont bag the 2+2 as much actualy i like it looks lot longer and bit more of a musle car. though sales of the 2+2 compared to the 2 seater speak for them selves back in the mid to late 70's. i like all s30 models including the JDM ones they all have their benefits and undesirabilities. just have to figure it out what you need. Rust wise they are same they rust but i did see quite bad examples of 240z so be carefull check every inch of it. near the front subframe on the chassis and chassis rails. also have a good look underneath. Check near battery for rust on firewall and in the air box. usualy near steering and bonnet lock usualy hidden rust are near rear 1/4 windows and where roof meets the rear 1/4. also they rust around the rear wheel arches. have a good look if u dont know too much about body inspection drag someone with you that does. other rust spots are visible and can be noticed easy. its not a write off but be prepared to pay for the repairs to be fixed properly. eaither buy a cheap one with all visible rust so you know what u dealing with or pay bit more for a good one with picture details to prove the repairs done properly (ie no fiberglassing rust holes and body filing it over= JUST SHONKY and unsafe) 2+2 are bit easier to come by for parts. finidng a rear 1/4 panel and doors for 2 seater can be bit of a headache. most frontal parts can be still ordered through nissan. any model can be turned into an animal (RUNING FOR COVER  ) ive modernised my 2+2 all the way. rb20det conversion and all other goodies like climate control, power everything big brakes lsd diff .s30 are very easy to modify (run for cover again) expecialy when using from nissan stable. ebay has occasional good priced one and some crapas. but dont buy anything without looking at it first. good luck Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted December 20, 2006 Administrators Posted December 20, 2006 The same question was sent through via club email and I thought I'd post my response here for others with a similar question in future. Hi Jeremy, I take it you recently signed up on the forums & asked a similar question. We have had several others ask similar questions in the past and if you do a search on the site you will find some good info. From my experience with Zeds the best cars to buy are those that are as original as possible with minimal rust and original paint work if possible. I say this because too many have been resprayed and rust bogged up. If you find a relatively original car with minimal rust or accident damage your 50 steps ahead of the next guy with a non-original car and lots of body work to do. Mechanical work is relatively easy and fun! These cars rarely experience major mechanical issues unless maintenance & service is few and far between. An early 240z is hard to find in good condition for a cheap price, when I got into these cars at the age of 17 which was 7 years ago now it was hard to find a good 240z at the right price. A good 260z however can still be picked up at a relatively good price although 2 seaters are climbing in value. Most prefer the 2 seater shape, you may not mind and therefore you have the option of a 2+2. For me the 240z is the original classic and there are enough differences in the early model to set it apart from the later 260z's. If you want an original classic car buy a 240z. If you plan to modify it and slap in a turbo engine at some stage the heavier but stronger & more refined 260z is the way to go. Kind regards, Gavin. Quote
juxstapo Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 You people mean to infer these cars are supposed to be not rusted?! Well that ruins my world outlook. Quote
24OZ Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 Hey' date='I have been a fan of datsuns for a while and now am looking to purchase my first datsun; either a 240Z or 260Z. Where/What should i look for??? Any replies appreciated, Cheers Skippa[/quote'] where to look...park'n ride carparks, basement shopping centre parking, train stations what to look for.....no alarm,no surveillance, dim lighting,no security ............ah sh#t,just read the post properly, you're looking at buying one  seriously, the various forums are a good start, have you posted a wanted ad? Z drivers prefer their cars to go to other enthusiasts to keep it in the family so to speak, members are also happy to alert you to ones for sale they know of or have seen in their travels also another area of potential rust(that is nigh on impossible to fix properly)is the plenum under the windscreen wipers,it can rust if the drain holes block up over time.easiest way to check it is pour a bucket of water into the slotted vents near the wipers....if the footwells get/are wet just keep looking good luck paul Quote
