Is there a steel plate between the extractors and the head? Why?

Looks like Gasket to me.

Was hoping that's the "Simon" mentioned  ;D

Duh, my apologies. Looked too reflective, but with closer inspection have to agree.

Great job though Mark and Co.

If you come and convince the missus that I NEED to spend more time in the garage, maybe at least more work would get done here too.

Nice work guys. Did you have some fluid in the carb floats?, sounded a bit flat when you were trying to rev it. But I guess you hadn't really checked the timing or anything as it was only first start.

Gotta be happy with that for a cheap L28.

That's what I love about this forum, everyone seems to benefit. I'm stoked that my smokey old $50 motor has been put to good use. I'll be keen to see it next Z meet.

Benny Boy,

There are lots of 'Simons' on this forum.  It could have been anyone really.  I think it presumptive to assume that he is referring to me.  It is more an indication of your feelings and beliefs that you have assumed Scoota is referring me.

We will discuss this further when we next meet.

MaygZ

Good work Scoota and gang.

Pretty conclusive on Facebook Simon.

Mark has now started the many tiers of Simon.

And it looks like you are the cope shiver Simon  :P

Keep up the good work though Simon

They're all just jealous,

What was the coolest detective 70's hit show? Simon & Simon!

What was a super cool electronic game in the 70's? Simon!

What about the new improved game? Super Simon!

Who played with Garfunkel again? Simon!

I didn't see anyone one else talking to the pieman, who was it again? Simon!

And last and not least,

I've never heard of Ben Say's, who say's? Simon says!

You may notice a trend here too.

Most of those examples are from the 70's.

Simon abviously rocked the 70's, you have to agree.

What year is your Z? 70's!

Yeah, we may take slower to get work done on our cars, but we are super cool and we really do ROCK!  8)

Good to see you guys have her running, pretty well by the sound of it.

But seriously Scoota, you really will film anything, won't you??

Took the car to Euroa show n shine on Sunday, 500+km round trip.  Ran really well, found few bedding in issues alternator bolts, fuel pump etc and the carbs need to be re jeted for the L28 all very minor things.

Its a strong motor, once it cams on at 3,500 (std 240z A grind) you can clearly hear the exhaust note change.

This thing is a tyre smoker now, dale did an Excellent doughnut with Rob in the car. It used to be called Yellow Slug but now she needs a new name.

I had so much fun rebuilding this motor and learnt even more along the way. Thanks for the feedback Guys.  :)

C'mon guys, get inspired  ;D ;D

Nice work guys.

I'm inspired already!

Got some Kameari bits coming from the US, along with another P90 head from NSW, and I've just fitted a 60mm TB. I plan on having my 'mild' turbo engine back in one piece by the end of next moth, and hopefully turning 300HP in plenty of time for the nationals.

Good read.

Just gotta get an engine stand & I will look at doing the same.

Need to send the block to a shop though, gotta get the oil pickup and dipstick converted to suit the front bowl sump to suit the R30 Skyline...

Also need to decide whether to boost it or N/A (gotta decide sooon!!!)

Posted

Bah, just fill in the dipstick hole and make sure you change the oil regularly

:P

(PS the Kameari bits I've bought are - oil tensioner, thermostat and radiator cap)

I'm really trying not to hijack this thread - any more discussion on non Scoota-rebuild stuff should go elsewhere, but here it is:
