Well i love long projects. This is not one. Dale bought an N42/N42 off Dimitri and we stripped the cylinder head off on the weekend, hmmmm not bad condition with a fair amount of Carbon on the valves. So we took it apart and cleaned all the pistons, bores did not require an overbore so a quick hone and...

When you regrind the valve seat like that (backyard style) don't you put the valve in the right way with the grinding paste on on the seating surface then spin? You look like your doing it the other way around.

Well done Scoot! Love your show and tells :)

The valve lapping looks normal to me, It looks like a stick with a suction cup on it attatched to the valve that is resting in the seat. Fun job :D

Does anyone know why the exhaust valves would marked with an S ? It also has dished pistons.

All N42/N42 and F54/N42 combo's I have see have dished pistons. This so the engines have 8.8 CR and run on low RON Unleaded Petrol :(

Pretty quick turn around there Mark.

What did you do in regards to water and oil pumps, timing chain and all that other guff?

I had a nice selection of parts from two other motors, one with new timing gear. I'll get video of the start up tomorrow  8)

Good to see my old engine nice and shiny! And not blowing smoke clouds... REALLY BIG smoke clouds!

This engine is a bit of a mystery... someone set the crankshaft/ camshaft timing wrong at some stage and it has two tiny dents in every piston. The cylinder head  must have been replaced. I have a lot of confidence in this motor and look forward to firing it.

Can't wait to move Mustard (AKA the slug), and properly try out the modified valve body in the auto and hear the new 2.5 exhaust system and hpc coated headers working without raw oil coming out the exhaust pipe.

Scoota and Rob have done a power of work considering we only took the head off the block Sunday evening. (Thanks guys)

and this motor received one of my spare 240 A grind cams, it had a B grind in it!.

I am keeping the 74 cam and e31 head for another high comp motor which will happen as soon as orange is back on the road.

You mount the oil filter with a oil stud replacement - I have the part number (will post when I get home from work) last one I purchased from Nissan was under $10 Funny NZ money.

you only need the right angle adapter in the 280zx otherwise it fouls on the p/steering.... or as luvemfast and myself found out you can get a shorter RYCO FIlter!! Im sure simon will chime in with the part number!!
