Z Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I have been stuffing round with getting a build thread going for ages now... shall I post, shant I - weird really when it aint world peace is it! Had the car for nearly a year now, just stoked to have a Z again, with not a lot happening, but now as I don't have any car and being determined not to let this project fester (like they can), I have stepped it up a notch over the last six months. All running gear is in place with L26 and the twins (original block on stand), interior needs fixing up, or replacing, plus front and rear (lights etc) need doing. It sounds simple writing it, but it has not been that way for me so far! These shots are how I got her... Here we go! Quote
Z Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 Since the last pics I have moved house and a few things have been sorted. Got the rear lights done, paid too much for a JDM wheel, hatch on and a 3" inch mandrel exhaust...Beef lol! Quote
MaygZ Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Looking very nice. White really does look good. Keep up the good work. MaygZ Quote
Z Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 And lastly, since last pics (just getting u updated fellas) got the front/rear bumpers re-chromed with new rubbers. So yeah thats it, really - looking forward to getting this thing out on the road this summer and finishing off the car properly. There are further plans down the line (as always), but really just happy to have a zed again that will be tidy, have a nice set of rims and dropped a little. Cheers as always:) Quote
Z Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 Thanks MaygZ, its been good seeing the other guys builds take shape, hopefully mine can work out as well! Quote
reverendzed Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Well done Z, just keep 'plugging' away at it and it will be ready for that blessed summer cruise! Rev. Quote
Z Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 Heya Revsey;) Thanks for the encouragement, a little more should be happening soon which is satisfying, not fast enough though! If u end up Zedless come up for some R n R, Hayden has too many to count. Quote
garvice Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Looking good mate, started on that coil loom for you, not too happy with it though so might redo it again (probably why my projects take so long because I keep redoing things). So what is the new deadline? Come on, post a deadline to the registration date, then work like buggery to meet it. Once the date is public it is much more motivating (which is why I am not putting a deadline on mine, HA!) Quote
luvemfast Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 If thats how you got it, you've done well. Good luck with the build and keep posting updates Quote
Z Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 Thanks very much Luvemfast, these things are like kids! Another kid is Garvice... You and Galderdi better not meet up, he gives me stick about how long its taking every time we catch up, it would be in stereo! Deadline is 15 Oct then - 6 pack on it:) And thanks on the coils G. Z Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 Shes at the panel shop as we speak lads, hears hoping it works out, it was VB wasn't it?! Its on like donkey kong! Quote
Z Posted September 28, 2010 Author Posted September 28, 2010 Howdy, I've got rubber on the Simmons and the right nuts (they gave me 1.5) but the front hubs stick out through the wheels, I cannot fit the front wheel caps on... I've searched the forum for "260z Hubs", "Hubs" etc but am I on the right track? Is the answer to change to 260z hubs? Sorry, this average shot is the only photo I have right now, any advice would be appreciated guys... Quote
Roberto Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 If you can't modify the wheel cap to fit, you could just leave it off all together and paint the cap on the hub black or silver. Quote
Z Posted September 28, 2010 Author Posted September 28, 2010 Yeah I could but I have the four Simmons caps that came with the wheels and I would like to use them if I can. It's a pity the caps aren't deep like some (they are just flat covers if that makes sense) because I would have no problem! Love the wheels though, had to wait 9 months for 16 x 8 Simmons - Dish! Quote
garvice Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Is it running yet? When are you bringing it around for a look? Turns out I won't have the three phase for another good 4 weeks because the electrician is going away for work, so no hoist till after that. Quote
Z Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 Well the Simmons caps are now the least of my worries! Took the car down to Jim Milliner just down the road thinking she only needed a SU tune after we got the engine running last week...how wrong was I. Cylinder 6 has blow through, a few cam lobs are poked, NHJ - Not Happy Jan! Got the car back to my place sounding something like a cross between a tractor and a whipper snipper in the pissing rain with no wipers - I know were all the leaks are now. But it looks like Galderdi is going to try a new cam and oil railing to see if we actually need to work on the head before we take it out. I've taken off the leads/rocker for his arrival, Garvice I owe you VB! Quote
garvice Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 You owe me VB? I'm not getting the reference. Can you remove the cam without taking the head out? I thought it would have hit the radiator. I guess if you drop the transmission you might get the angle to get it out. It is hard enough driving a Z in the rain at night (shocking lights and no visibility) add the no wipers and that would have just been scary. Not to mention it was pretty damn hard rain yesterday. Z Posted October 21, 2010 Author Posted October 21, 2010 Bit of an update, car came back from panel shop recently with a new front spoiler, mirror, H4 harness fitted, door trims and rear surrounds all fitted (plus one million other things that the shop now hates me for! It's due back there next week to get the rear arches rolled. Suspension shop went over everything - replaced bushes, fitted Koni Reds (lowered Kings already in) and just sorted it - drives far better now, even with a sick engine... Quote
Z Posted October 21, 2010 Author Posted October 21, 2010 Huge thanks to Greg (Galderdi) for all his help with the L26 - Whole weekend spent taking everything apart, sanding back head and block, fitting new gasket and then putting it all back together again. Also thanks to Stevo_gj for coming round and getting the carbies far better than what they were - Karma man. Since dropped the car to Jim Milliner to get this 26 as close to good as possible (poor bugger)! Clearances and tappets now done, carbies tuned as good as can be - think this will do until the new engine arrives... Mnaged to get the fuel gauge to work by... plugging the wires in! PO told me a new sender was required! Temp gauge was a little more tricky, eliminated gauge and found the temp sender was stuffed, replaced that so now I watch it overheat lol. Quote
garvice Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Noticed that there were no photos of the passenger front quarter. Quote
RB30X Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Looking good mate. Get some further back shots when it's out of the shed. Quote
Z Posted October 31, 2010 Author Posted October 31, 2010 Just had my rally clock (of sorts) delivered, I think its from a JDM 280z? Anyways its off to Ron at www.zclocks.com tomorrow, he's going to change: -The bezel, black part you see from the dash, has to be changed to a 240 bezel which is very different from the 280. -A new lens is fabricated for the 240 bezel to accomodate the single knob of the clock. -The bracket on the back of the 280 housing needs to changed (fabricated) to fit the 240 mounting in the dash. The difference between the two is completely different. -A harness adapter is fabricated to convert the 280 connector to the 240 wiring (this is a jumper harness so you do not have to cut or splice the 240 harness)-keeps you 240 original and all electricals the same. In addition the clock mechanism needs to be refurbished. Regardless if it's working or not so there are no future problems. These are the minimum items that need to be done so the clock will be a plug and play installition on your 240Z. So it should take a few weeks to get it back and ready to plug in. Also picked up a JDM speedo a little while ago too, I like the 240kph! Quote
