My car stolen then found dumped,

first of the car is a 1983 toyota corona, Last night was at a friends place having numerous number of beers, at around 5am in the morning, went outside to get a jacket from my car, and wam the car wasn't there, thinking some drunk friend took it i went back inside and with my drunkeness forgot about it, got up at 9am to go home, and relised the car wasn't there again, and found broken glass on the floor, after realising the only valueble thing inside the car was my sunglasses and my phone, i wasn't to stressed cept for the car not being there,

 

friend got in his car to take me to a police station, we drove for about 10minutes, and there was the car near the cop shop, and everything still in it, nothing damaged cept for the window....

 

by that time it was 11.30 and was supposed to meant a person who was going to look at my car at 11am, i think it was gordon, so sorry that i stood you up, i'll contact you asap

 

How much to those small windows cost???

nah I dint, it was the "stolen car"  that grabbed my attention.... maybe admin should dump OLD, like really old postings...

You are REALLY starting to annoy me with your postings Salty. More-so for blaming us Admins for old post that YOU bring up.

You don't need to comment on every irrelevant post on forum. LOOK and THINK before posting next time.

if the posting is old like 4 years, why are you dumping on me for commenting on it? if its felt its an old irrelevent posting thats been left there  and not removed thats for someone to do........... hey I just replied to the post

 

Removing old topics would be a massive job for the admins and moderators of the site. Since it would have to be done manually to ensure that "old topics" that were useful or had useful information for members were not deleted.

 

It might be possible in future that old forum topics get archived and some sort of weighting issue would allow members to vote / rate posts so that old topics that were still relevant appear in results pages etc.. (if you have ever used Gmail, you'll probably be familiar with this).

 

In general before posting a reply it's a good idea to check when the last reply was made to a topic so you can get a sense of how old the thread is.

There's an internet forums etiquette that you may not be aware of Salty. Basically if a thread is really old, don't reply, unless its absolutely something that's going to make a difference to the thread. Dumping on people that revive old threads is par for the course on most forums.

 

Old threads are there for reference value (Some better value and some worthless), but deleting them is not really the done thing.

So what are peoples thoughts on continuations of old threads with relevant topics?

 

For instance, if someone is having a high RPM ignition cut out issue would it be better to start a new thread (assuming you can't find the answer with a search), or add to an older existing thread with a similar topic to build onto previous ideas?

I would suggest that a new thread (if an older similar one didn't contain the info you needed or if you were adding fresh info) detailing the information you require and all the relevent information would be much more succesful and appropriate than resurecting a dead thread.

 

If you are having high RPM ignition cut out (and not knowing your set up):

 

Points system - broken/weak points spring not allowing them to close - or - incorrect gap - or - loose or missing advance weights - or - incorrect or malfunctioning coil -  or - malfunctioning capasitor - or - broken leads.

 

Electronic System - (depending on your definition of high) malfunctioning ignition cut out - or -  incorrect or malfunctioning coil - or broken leads

 

Carby -  lean fuel at high RPM or fuel supply (pump/lines/tank) issues or fuel quality issues or valve bounce (due to weak or broken valve springs) not allowing compression to build up pre detination.

EFI - ECU issues, injector issues, fuel quality issues or some of the listed carby issues.

 

What colour smoke is blown when the ignition cut out?  Black, grey or white?

 

These are the reasons it's good to start a new post.  If you ask Lurch nicely, he might transfer all of this into a new post for you  ;D

Sorry! I should of been more clear, actually i was just using that as an example of a typical type of post that pops up. But yes i did have that issue, it turned out to be a faulty ignition module (280zx elec. dizzy).

 

Although you raised some good points (no pun intended) that i should have looked at before replacing the module... blind luck really
