Bigfella Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I just wondering if any one here has got an vicroads temporary permit for picking up a car. As I hope to be buying a car in the next few months and it will more than likely be unregistered. I am looking at my options like Tandem or if it is drivable a permit. How much do they cost and are they hard to get. Thanks Matt Quote
bryan3976 Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 not hard i think it was $36 just paper work Quote
Scoota G Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 You can get it for the day a week, 28 days. Make sure you have the last rego number or the chassis and engine number. I think the last time i got a 28 day permit it was $62.50 but prices on everything went up at the end of July. Quote
fufu Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 what your after is called a UVP = unregistered vehicle permit. can get any timeframe from 1 week through to 1 month. Fu Quote
dat2kman Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I'm gonna need one for a cute little Datsun 120Y i have entered in the Targa High Country tarmac rally, in November. Just what info do i need to supply to Vicroads to get this, and as i am not in Vic, can it be done over the phone or by internet? Do I get the insurance component with the UVP at the same time is it included? I can "use" an address in Victoria for the purposes of the UVP, I just need it so i can drive this little old Ditsan around the Mansfield area for a few days!! It was last registered in Victoria in 1994, and it still has it's old number plates attached and an old rego label on a window, and I have an old Vicroads rego certificate/label thingy. Any one who has done this please school me! Quote
Scoota G Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Just what i told my dad.... Google is your friend. http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Registration/PermitsModificationsAndDefects/UnregisteredVehiclePermit.htm Quote
mouse240z Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I thought those permits had very strict conditions attached, such as you could only drive the car from the place of purchase to your home and out to places to get the car repaired. I would look into it. Quote
Scoota G Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Fudge, i've seen people dropping off the kids to school and going to the supermarket for smokes. You pay more for a permit than Rego Rates and you should be able to use the car as a normal vechile, within reason! Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted August 18, 2010 Moderators Posted August 18, 2010 Some conditions are that the car can only be used between 7am-7pm, to and from places for repair or to do with the RWC. Not sure about weekends..but i know they do pull you over if they see you driving with the permit on a Sunday...with me twice! Quote

You pay more for a permit than Rego Rates and you should be able to use the car as a normal vechile, within reason! Yep. And if the cops pull you over while you are there, you'll most likely get booked for it. You must take the most direct route from your house straight to a workshop. No stopping off on the way. However, there also exists some kind of 'single trip' permit, which can be used for a different reason. A rare left hand drive Alfa (90's vintage, ineligible for club plates) was driven to Philip Island for the purposes of an Alfa only race meeting, and then driven back. One permit each way. Not sure on the particular details, but this was, according to Vicroads, above board. Quote
Bruce Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I'm gonna need one for a cute little Datsun 120Y i have entered in the Targa High Country tarmac rally I am assuming this is the ex George Fury 120Y? Looking forward to seeing some pics? cheers Bruce Quote
MaygZ Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 As has been said - very easy to get. Can be done over phone and permit faxed to you. You can have a single trip permit - as mentioned Highway permit that allows travel for the purpose of obtaining a road worthy Special use - usually for agricultural or other special purpose vehicles for use on the roadside or moving from farm to farm. This is the one that MAY suit your purpose. Check with VicRoads. Yes, these permits are abused, but use outside the permit carries a fine of ove $600!! and the coppers love them!! MaygZ Quote
