Administrators gav240z Posted October 29, 2006 Administrators Posted October 29, 2006 Hi everyone, just thought it was interesting to see this lot of items go for the price they did. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140044335867&ssPageName=ADME:B:EF:US:11 I know the chrome headlight surrounds are expensive but these didn't even have the plastic covers with them. I placed a bid at the start and was probably willing to go to $120 at the most. Quote
RUSSJZ-ZED Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 The headlight surounds were interesting, but seriously why buy bits? I picked up a Car, rolling, near complete (no engine, box) bare metalled, 99% rust free, new carpets and never fitted recovered dash for $350 off ebay, over 2000 hits on item- so much for "rare","collectable", admittedly,it was a vatican version with stowage for children in the back, still had heaps of parts, I kept the front seats, dash, front guards, bumper, suspension and diff, the rest went back on ebay as bits, (over $1000 worth) Henry Ford summed it up perfectly when he said"I will give everybody a free car, providing they buy their parts from me" He never followed it through, but he knew how the parts market worked. Anyone know anything about the bronze 260Z on ebay at the moment? dead motor, looks straight? Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 im sure i could get that motor going in less than 2 hours!!! im probly going to go have a look at it during the week if i can make it down there. nato Quote
Bruce Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 You guys in Adelaide get all the bargains looks pretty good from the photos: 260z on Ebay cheers Bruce Quote
VertexZ Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 its all about the space! not many people have room for a wreck. but to give you an idea...I got around $2.5k for the parts off my 260Z 2+2, but had zero interest when the entire car was advertised for $1k. Sure, a fair bit of work went into dismantling, but it does give you an idea of how pricey the parts can get, given alot of stuff was sold significantly cheaper than what you would pay from a zed wrecker. Also, I had no front end panels, which would be worth easily $600 in good cond (bonnet, guards, headlight buckets, indicators, valance, bumper etc) although I did have a few sought after bits like the electronic dizzy. If you have room, the wreck is the way to go! Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Well, since I was bidding on them....... The last set of nissan headlight covers that were on ebay, were also sold as is, without the plastic. ie, just the stainless steel loops. They sold for about $298 from memory. The plastic cover is the easy part to replace (I already have a set of the other type of cover, that you have to attach with little brackets), its the stainless steel surround that is no longer available anywhere. Someone in the USA has started making repros, but at US$400 a set, its a bit rich. I was only interested in the headlight surrounds, and had I won I would have probably re sold the other parts, recouping some of the money back. I have this car as a desktop background on my PC, and decided i must have these covers, but not at more than $300. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Hey Gav, I saw you were bidding on some fender mirrors a couple of weeks back  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290040054555 As for parts cars. I bought a 260Z 2+2 for parts ages ago, stripped it, cut up the chassis (It was way too far gone with rust, and had accident damage - gave parts of it away to another guy that was doing up a 2+2) and kept the rest. I sold off a few parts cheap that I knew I wouldn't need. I think I paid $500 for the car, and probably sold about $250 in parts so far. I still have all the suspension, diff, engine and gearbox, front end panels, seats, grill etc. I'm keeping the rest for when I finally finish the 240z and work out what I need and what I can sell. A parts car is defiantly the way to go if you have the space. You'll probably make money out of it. Quote
Lynton Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Back in 1975 I had a pair of those chrome headlight covers, they were off one of the Zeds shipped out from Japan for rallying in Australia that were to expensive to send back to Japan so they pushed the cars over board on route back to Japan but some parts were scavanged and re sold back here in Australia. the headlight covers being one example the perspex is very thick compared to the after market headlight covers generally available with different screw hole points into the headlight cowl with a quite thick and wide foam rubber gasket much more durable and permanent. By the way I sold this car in the early eighties and I have never seen it since! See Pic: Regards Lynton Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 P.S. people will pay between $600 to $1000 US (in USA or Japan) for a complete original set. (Rings, gaskets and plexiglass). Quote
NZeder Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 I have set of these chome headlight bands and lense I will sell if someone is keen PM but I don't want to lose $$ on them so I will sell them for what I paid which is $360 + shipping (I could bring to Melboune on my next business trip next year) They are new never installed. Way cheaper than the G-Nose light covers I have purchased now that I have G-Nose. Quote

I'll try to keep them in mind and set aside some money for them. I think they look awesome with the chrome band, shocking with the rubber. I had a set of aftermarket ones on my old 260z they were tinted aswell. I really didn't like them. The chrome band ones add a nice vintage look (very Ferrari). When it comes to a ZG it just looks wrong without them . Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted November 9, 2006 Author Administrators Posted November 9, 2006 Hey Gav' date=' I saw you were bidding on some fender mirrors a couple of weeks back  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290040054555 [/quote'] Yeah that was me, I set my budget wasn't going to pay more than what I thought they were worth. You can get a brand new set for only a bit more than what the final bid was. I think I'd prefer a chrome set anyway. I've bid on a few sets before but there seems to be quite a few people in need of them or at least wanting them. Quote
zedevan Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 gav if u happen to buy some black ones then change over to chrome i'd be happy to buy them off you . i was thinking of bidding on those ones on ebay but thought the same thing. re the headlight covers, i'd like a set and retro fit two projectors into the bucket behind them instead of being in the 7" housing, kinda like fto/z4/db9 style, but i dont think that will b happening anytime soon...still have the rear lights to do lol. however atm i'm not a fan of the chrome surrond, i think it attracts to much attention to the bucket on most colours, but there are some that look nice, and on a gnose its a must Quote
NZeder Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 wow - such demand for the light covers - to Gav and Russjz-Zed sorry but first in best dressed so Mr Camouflage will be the new ower of my headlight covers. The winner was chosen by the first reply/request to purchase that I recieved. These are new items and I might be able to get another set however they might cost more not sure yet until I find out from my contact in Japan if he can still get them. Here is pics of what they look like Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted November 9, 2006 Author Administrators Posted November 9, 2006 Damn gotta be quick around here....I thought I had that one in the bag . There is a guy in the US importing lots of cool Japanese gear his website is www.datsunspirit.com I believe he has got access to some reproduction ones not sure if there is any difference between stock Nissan ones and the ones he gets but that's always an alternative I guess.
