1979ZED Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 When cutting out rust what tools are people using? Obviously there is the angle grinder, but what about for those small cuts? Thanks. Quote
reverendzed Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 You may need to use a dremmel tool with a fine metal cutting wheel. Rev. Quote
FLEXZED Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 hey mate I use a standard jig saw with a metal blade or my air hacksaw or depending on the position of the peice that you want cut out, a pair of good quality tin snips work well Loui Quote
Scoota G Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Yea i have one of those electric die grinders that i got from Bunnings. Spent 60 hrs on the cylinder head and extractors and then it blew up, soi took it back and got a new one. Lots of uses, what area do you plan to cut rust from? Quote
Brabham Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Air driven die grinder with a 3"x1mm thick cut-off wheel works well. As the good Rev. said for detail work a 1" or 2" wheel on a dremel is good-if you have the flexible drive cable this helps as well. Cheers. Quote
1979ZED Posted June 27, 2010 Author Posted June 27, 2010 the main area I see at this point in time is in the roof just on top of the quarter windows. I'm sure there are going to be many more I find along the way. I've also got rust in the boot where the spare wheel goes which I have no idea how I am going to tackle yet. Quote
Zeddophile Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 9" Cutoff. Just the thing for precision work.... Scary pieces of shit them. Quote
drifta1600 Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 These are realy thin! These work so good, even when there worn down, there good to use for realy small cuts. Quote
C.A.R. Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Scary pieces of shiver them. Not really - they are fine as long as your not a knob when using it. 12" Petrol powered cutoff is a bit more of a challenge though... Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 air hacksaw, small metal blade and 4-5' grinder with 1mm thick cutting wheels. Quote
MaygZ Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Reciprocating saw with a fine metal blade. Mine's a cordless DeWalt and gets used for everything (almost) that has some room on both sides of what's being cut. Quote
