260Coupe Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Hey Guys If you are looking for an absolutely first class restoration or just an accident repair then talk to Hardy Kuhn at H & R Classic Restorations in Lilydale, Vic. Hardy specialises in Austin Healy's (mutiple international Concours' winners) and has moved onto Datsun Roadsters and now dabbling with Zeds. Hardy is a first class fabricator (he hates the term "panel beater") and can frabicate any part from scratch if the need arrises. His work is certainly the best I have ever seen with his eye for detail that surpasses most others. http://www.hrc-dat.com.au/ My Zed went from this Quote
260Coupe Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 and more ........radiator support panel twisted and inner guard compressed Quote
260Coupe Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 Paint match was perfect and new custom made brackets for the spoiler and grill were fabricated. The Grill was almost destroyed in the prang, this was completely dismanteled and every slat straightened and the vertical joiners re-made from scratch ...............and mounted so solidly you could use the grill as a tow point ! C.A.R. Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Possibly the best restorer in Vic atm, from what I've been told. Zed looks as good as new Alan Quote
reverendzed Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Big $ no doubt...but with that comes quality, warranty, no headaches, less stress and quick turn around - think I should have done this! Rev. Quote
dazzed Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 why didnt you get Lou Mondello to fix it?????????????????????? Quote
260Coupe Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 Quite simply Daniel............like yourself Lou only does mechanical work Quote
260Coupe Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 what price tag comes with the quality work? His work is certainly not cheap (my repair was claimed through Shannons and was around $8.5k)...........but like all things you get what you pay for. If you a want a faultless finish that you will be 100% satisfied with then it costs money........I would not suggest he is for every body and every Zed, but if you want more than a average job then he is worth considering. zzzzed Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Not before you consider lurch and rev of course ;D Quote
luvemfast Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Looks good Alan, glad to hear its all fixed. I'm assuming that Shannons paid for the repair? Another reason to pay their higher premium! Quote
C.A.R. Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Mick, Im not even in the same orbit as Hardy...! Quote
zzzzed Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 maybe but i bet he has a few years experience on you guys.. Yo both do rather well for people who are self taught Quote
260Coupe Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 Simon yep ...........Shannons coughed up with no issue, the assessors always try and knock 10% off the price so the there was some "up lift" in the quote to allow for the knock down. BTW All repairs were made by pulling out the front panel on a jig and then straightened with a hammer and dolly......no cut and shut welding going on here........hence the labour intensive price......$800 in parts (bonnet and r/h headlight surround) .............and the rest in labour and paint. The whole car was then cavity waxed (again) to ensure it will remain rust free for another few years Alan Quote
