nizm0zed Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 got the same deal with my welder. I bought a 15A female plug and a cheap extension lead, 1+1 makes 15A power cable adaptor Just make sure you have auto circuit breakers. To this day almost 8 yearrs after doing it i have only ever tripped the breakers once and that was because i was welding something really thick, the welder was up at full power. Quote
MickyG Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 You could just grind down the earth pin on the 15A plug to fit a 10A socket... but depending on the quality of your wiring, circuit breakers, etc your house might burn down. It's worth spending the $ on a registered sparky. Quote
620Z Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Rev, I bought this adaptor lead from home to Van 15amp to home 10amp 240V adaptor off eBay. Would this do the job? Cost was $160- and had a circuit breaker or trip switch on it. Might be cheaper than an electrician and easier? The link won't work but I can get you more details if you like. PM if interested. Quote
Bruce Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 we have got one of these for our van as well http://www.caravansplus.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=8993 works well Quote

This is what I have done, except the 'cheap' extension cord. I cut down a quality 15A cord (to keep the inlet side as short as possible for obvious reasons). I have never had a problem. The power in my shed runs on a seperate fuse from the main board and is fused again at a fuse box in the shed. I've had a mate, who is a licensed sparkie, check it out and he assures me that it is completely safe. for your info. Quote
nizm0zed Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Maygz, i have a mate whos a sparkie who shakes his head at my patch cord and walks away. yea, not ideal i know, but im in rental properties, its not feasible to get things constantly rewired. Once i buy a house though, the shed will have 15A outlets next to all the 3 phase outlets Im not a fan of grinding the earth pin, its very unprofessional and borders on ghetto. Quote
