Hi All

I am looking to move the fuel filler to behind the license plate, just like the older Falcons have.

Has anyone here done anything like this? or know exactly what would be involved apart from getting the tank modified, a bit of extra tubing, and the rear panel off a falcon.

Cheers

Yep I have done this on my Zed. I put in an Alloy tank and moved the filler behind the number plate and filled in the old filler cap/door for a smoother looking rear.

Just a matter of moving some plumbing I guess. But then again I took out the wheel well and centrally located the tank so you might have a few more difficulties getting around the spare wheel tub?

Considering the fuel dump pipe comes down from the original filler position to a rubber joiner at right hand rear boot floor level, I would almost bet with some silicon intake elbows and a bit of grey matter behind the process you would be able to plumb it to the original tank.

Run the original filler repositioned at lets say 30 degrees downward slant towards the right hand side, then have some 100mm piping madel bent to meet the rubber dump transfer pipe.

Of course this would mean you would need to do some custom trim work to the rear inner back panel trim panel, but do-able.

Cheers

im currently in the process of doing this, but not behind the plate, coz thats too eazy ;D

I'll try and remember to get some progress pics over the next week or so.

the custom built hinge is done, now i just have to make some time to build the other parts from scratch.

I guess my question would be why are you moving it?

To smooth over the filler door or put in a different tank would make sense. But just because you want to fill behind the number plate would not be enough of a reason for me.  :-\

My car is with a restorer at the moment (it was a pile of rust before)

and i asked the guy to put in a aviation style filler, but instead he has removed the door and made the whole panel flush, it looks really good, but i need to put fuel in somewhere.

Thanks for the replys. I was planning on getting the neck moved, and as i am doing all the interior myself there will be no problem covering it up.

Cheers Guys

I know with my 4wd I removed the auxilary tank and moved the primary tank forward (race truck) and I had no problems with rego. Didn't need to get an engineers cert or anything. (QLD). It was really common to put drop tanks in the old muscle cars as well with quite a few of these being filled from behind the number plate or the rear of the car like toranas and falcons. Quite a few of these didn't even have a filler outside the car. You'd fill them up inside the boot, but these were sedans not hatches hence the boot area was separated from the cabin.
