Moderators Zedman240® Posted November 3, 2009 Moderators Posted November 3, 2009 Just curious if anyone is going to the Calder event on the 22nd. Last one for the year before they start handing out $100 fines for loud cars. Getting the zed dynoed this Friday so then I can let all those Kw's loose and hope nothing falls off! Quote
Riceburner Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 I may be able to make it...... Whats this talk of fines for being too loud? Quote
luvemfast Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 From Lindsay Coleman 3. NOISE AND CIRCUITS – 2010 You thought NOISE REGULATIONS were a problem in the past? Ha! Just wait for 2010! While you are rebuilding your Machinery over the Christmas/New year period, spare some thought to overall noise management. EXHAUST INLET DUCTING TYRE DRAG TRANSMISSION/GEARNOISE AERODYNAMIC DISTURBANCE. All these items can and do add to the reading on a dB meter. The first event next season is SANDOWN. New noise requirements will be in place by then. This is the new deal: In addition to the Sandown dB meter, operated from a fixed position, and whose operator usually gives a 10dB margin, a MOBILE meter operated by the local council and/or the EPA will be rigorously applied. This new meter will have a ZERO TOLERANCE policy at 75dB. When a breach is observed, a fine of $100’s will be given to the operator (SANDOWN). This fee will then be passed on to the applicable competitor. So in addition to a 1 strike and your out policy, a fine of $100’s will arrive in the mail. TAKE NOTICE OF THIS WARNING. WE ARE NOT KIDDING. Do NOT turn up with a setup marginally within the limit. You will NOT be able to back off to miss the second and/or third dB meter. They are MOBILE. You won’t know where they are. SANDOWN, PHILLIP ISLAND and WINTON. Circuits have a ZERO noise before events begin. You may, until someone decides to stuff up the system, unload cars and drive to the Scrutiny Area. Otherwise cars will have to be pushed. Since Phillip Island is the same level as Sandown at 75dB, you may as well give up trying to have a noisy exhaust wherever you think it is OK. Since noise has become the single largest threat to the continuing survival of amateur motorsport in OZ, and since TAC has demonstrated the success of slogans to get you in touch with your commonsense, so too can the MSCA have a slogan. DON’T BE A %@^WIT! DON’T LET THE SIDE DOWN! KEEP IT UNDER 75dB! Quote
620Z Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 Ooohhhh they are some strict rules. So many people will cop fines it won't be funny. Most people don't know how loud there car is at full noise. I would have thought one warning would have been a fare thing to do. even if it was for 6 months till everyone has worked out where their cars set up needs to be. My car is reasonably quiet but at idle it is 92db with the metre 2-3ft away. But on the track at full throttle and the metre maybe 50-100metres away who knows. I have never been pinned before. So I reckon a lot of people will be in my situation. I wouldn't be surprised if 20-30 cars get done each meeting in the early months. Typical of authority over stepping the mark as usual. Quote
luvemfast Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 At the end of the day, its all been created by people who buy a house near a racetrack. Then complain that its too load. WTF! The tracks have been there longer that the houses. They closed down the lost dogs home in Kilsyth from doing the same, it was there long before any houses. Pisses me off! Quote
620Z Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 Couldn't agree more Simon. Typical council do gooders bowing to the Johnny come lately's. Quote
Riceburner Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Typical... Fine the hoons on the road, they deserve it! But the people who do the right thing and speed legally at the track are now going to be punished as well, what a joke! Maybe we could chat to MSCA and see if they can check cars with a db meter at scrutineering for the first few events? Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted November 5, 2009 Author Moderators Posted November 5, 2009 If they fined all those Honda's with fart cannons for excessive noise, the government would get more income than the tax they stick on fuel! Like with everything, only takes one idiot to whinge to ruin it for the masses! Quote
C.A.R. Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 What a crock of shit! How is one to know if their car is over the limit, even if their exhaust reads under 75db?!?! Quote
Lgee Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 my mate dave and i will be there datto wont be ready, we are going to run the VK Commonwhore, with the grunty 3.3 :'(, still atleast we will be out there doing it. Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted November 13, 2009 Administrators Posted November 13, 2009 With Noise restriction rules like that I'll be in the slammer overnight. I had to get it tested for RWC when I first purchased it. My L28 240z with 2 hot dogs and straight pipes registered and a kid you not! 119 dB at 4200rpm. I've had her at 8000rpm before lol. It was loud enough for the guy with the dB meter to exclaim "sh!t that's loud". I thought if not legal on the road, at least at the track! Guess I'm wrong. Sounds like Australia is turning into George Orwell's 1984, Big Brother is watching you! Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted November 13, 2009 Author Moderators Posted November 13, 2009 Gavin, I'm determined to design a pair of twins that will be legal for the road noise wise. Problem with the 240Z is the lack of room underneath for large resonators in the middle. I will have a set one day! Quote
620Z Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Dimitri no probelms tucking those two resinators under the tunnel of your Zed. Mine fit either side of the Tail shaft easily. Quote
