Hey

im sooo desperate to get this 240z on the road, really doesn't need much, around 600ish parts, and a few solid hours work, but i just can't find the time to do anything on the car...

im working 45-50hrs a week, in a new managers position at work, and can't get time off, + got exams coming up .... and finding time to work on the car other than on sunday for a few hours other between family/friends occasions that keep on popping up,

I really just want to drive the car at the should i just send the car to a mechanic, and get the car on the road??

im more than capable, mechanically, to get it all done, but by the way it looks time wise it won't be done for another month, and it has already been 2 months, ahhhh just really fraustrated, and want to get the car on the road,....and will be over 1k to get to a mechanic im sure, the money isn't the issue, its will i know my car 100% if i give it to someone else, i got another car to drive daily, so thats not the issue either... just fraustrating, and i have to have a little rant, anyone else in my situation???

Yer Nate, I've had to leave my car at my folks place whilst I move house and worst still I have no garage at the new place so the Z will have to wait till I build a garage which might be 6 months away. Look if you get some spare time to finish your car off maybe you could pop in to my folks place and install the cross drilled rotors I've got sitting in the garage!:)

On a seriuos note; have you sold the 260 project you have? Dave Galloway at work has done some serious damage to his lower back so I don't think he's gonna be working on any cars in the short term anyway!

sounds like a lot of us actually.... Maybe we should have an update of where everybodies at...might share the pain and make Natez feel a bit better!!!

Me? I've got a V7 260Z at the moment with no time, money of expertise to work on it. Needs serious valvetrain work on the left cylinder bank (and probably the right one too), a new cam, new inlet manifold etc etc. Also hasn't got a RWC yet so still on NSW plates. But it drives and even with the dodgey rockers, still hauls like a train - can't wait to get it right........

Anyone else want to add their .02c worth?

Yeah I,ll have a say, if you can spare the money go ahead & get it finished.. You will get a lot of pleasure out of your car whenever you get to drive it , even if you dont drive it a lot at least you have the quiet satisfaction of knowing its ready to go when your ready to go.

Natez, you recon another month if you do the work ...betcha it will be a lot longer than that!!!

Also any info on the 260 you want to sell thanks ...Jimbo...

Whats a v7? Is it a typo and you meant v8? What engine is in 260 anyway? :)

I thought David was being sarcastic in that 1 cylinder of his V8 is out but might be a typo!???

Ah I've read somewhere that half the fun of having a Zed is the journey that is getting it finished but I guess that journey can be a pain in the butt if you can't jump in your car and drive it hey!

Yep we all feel the same way. It's very frustrating however I've decided to take charge and start a blog on how my project is coming along.

Some of you may have noticed it here: http://datsun-240z-blog.viczcar.com/

I want to detail the work i'm doing and give myself some goals to achieve. I work full time and have been busy with Uni also part time. It is hard to find the time I wanted to install my triples just to hear them roar but haven't found the time to even tinker with it.

I'd pay a mechanic so you can enjoy it mate.... plenty of other things to do yourself later it never ends, you know that.

Ahh.... ok, didnt get the sarcasm....and was hoping to see a different engine layout. :D

ok its 2am just got home from having a few beers with the mates, i had 5 minutes to spare today, so i just stared at the car, and was happy just looking at it for a while actaully....

but tommorrow waking up early, and doing some things, but again will be shutting shop early to go to a party, damned social commitments...

but yer

list to do is, restorembrakes, H4 lights and twin relay for front headlights, manual converison, clean up engine bay, install fuel pump .... and watever else RW guy says... hopefully can click a few off the list tommorrow,

I'm in the same boat at the moment....my zed is within 1k of being finished (just need to put carpets & a doors on...but just don't have enough time with uni exams and everything else.

It gets even more frustrating when you can legally drive it on a permit.....

If i were you, the small annoying things (like anything electrical related etc) I'd send them off to someone to: save time and to save sanity :-)

Good luck

yeah i'm also waiting for uni exams to be over, atm still working on assignments though...and after all that i'll be working as much as i can so i have no idea how much time i'll have

nate skip the h4 conversion and go straight to HID, it's well worth the money, i haven't regretted it at all...except maybe the day or two i thought i'd blown them up and would have to buy another set! driving at night is so much better when you can actully see!

i aim to bog up the rust on my doors along the bottom and paint it black, either install or have installed the bush kit and shocks and springs, finish off my lights and comp installs, paint up the flares and redo the front spoiler, get part of my bumper rechromed...buy some rims and brakes so i have a reason to put the flares on...

...how long a break do we get again? :?

Well its been 3 years and i've managed to strip the car back to a bare shell. Still need to finish stripping the underside. The car is spread over 2 houses, (the one i'm renting and the chassis is back up at the parents house.) over 30km apart.

I have a big shed here, but when you have a big empty space you always seem to end up with another car or two, so now the shed is full.

I plan to take a long hoilday from work and get one of the cars closer to being back on the road.

Working full time and restoring a car is difficult (if you insist on doing as much of the work yourself). Previous restorations I've done have been while I was studying, so I had lots of free time.

I haven't had time to work on the cars or even update my blog at http://www.datsun240z.tk/

yer when i mean H4, i mean HID, white lights, right now i got sealed beams, so gotta transplant to H4 with HID setup....

oh yer i got till march 07, break i taken a semister off to work....

Posted

Yep, in the same boat. my car is at my mums and is running but needs to be pulled down and swap some piece, but working full time really kills getting anytime to work on the car......... its so depressing

Posted

deferring a semester would be good! but i'd have to take a full year off due to when my subjects run :S i was kinda wondering why you were working full time while uni'ing full time, coz that sure is a way to have no free time at all!

not wanting to get to side tracked but hid's in any reflectors that weren't designed for them is dodgy. here's a pic for comparison. u can get just the e46 projectors for about $100, so i prob coulda done my lights cheaper...but either way it's an upgrade, just one way u'll blind more ppl!

good to hear you only want white ones though, any of the bulbs that are above like 6000k produces less light, but i guess the colour is special? i was behind an r32 the other night which had 6000k+ bulbs in its stock projectors and i could see a shaddow infront of his car from my lights :D

cool, yer i do 2 subjects at school, and 2 subjects over the net, and only actauly at school for around 5-10hours a week, which is jack all... but i do shit loads of work over the net and when im at home, as i just finished a 10k assignment on my new disign for next year....

yer im taking next semister off as i got no more subjects to do till my final year next year... so thats why i taking it off, and i got a full time job, cause well it kinda just worked that way, and i want the cash....

Posted

its alright....I'll just finish my car in a month or so (money pending (as always)) and then I head off to Japan for the year after only having driven it for a couple of months :-(!! might see if i can speak really nicely to mr OS-Giken whilst over there

Was so close to getting it rego'd then discovered that: gearbox isn't right (out it comes again!! and that my 404 is built like a tank (won in an accident but at fault)....

Are the HID swaps hard?

I've jsut put slightly uprated Hella units in, they a lot better than original but still not brilliant for country driving.

i'd say its easy, the only real problem is that they stick out further into the wheel well so depending on how you do it, you have to cut into the part that seals it off, but in short its as easy as dremeling a hole in some h4 lights, drilling some holes for the projector mounting and plugging it in, now i just need to modify mine so they look more like this
