dumb question, how do you know where the needles on the gauges are?
-
stewart wilkins is another choice - not cheap tho... you find him in the white pages
-
nope, the guy's gone cold........ 2 reminders and not a thing.........

Wasin a Mazda dealer yesterday looking at replacing the aging Calais with a CX7 and glanced at the new MX5 which is a car I've always liked. Small, nimble, cheap to run etc. Saw the price and nearly fell off my perch. $47,000 +ORCs!!!! I thought these things were meant to be a cheap sports car..... incidently the ORC push it into the Luxury car tax bracket. Maybe Mazda has lost the plot too... David

Saw these today. As an ex WRX owner, I'm really partial to these little rockets. interested in other's opinions of the design as Subaru have a habit of stuffing it up..... having said that I quite like it although at first glance I thought it was a pumped up Nissan Murano........

john, you should have received a PM from me re the cost etc David

looks really nice in the photos but at the moment 12.5K is more than i want to spend. it won't stay on the market for long, I'll bet. it'd be a good one for Van maybe? the ACT car photos havent arrived yet, dammit so I cant make a comparison.

after having driven around this week in a Saab with full leather, i'd have cloth anyday. 30 - 35* and leather = sweatly clothes = yukko.... even with a/c...

man where is this going??? i'm hopefully getting some pics of the ACT car tomorrow.. if i do i'll post them and your collective wisdom will help..... Sulio, your idea of the seals and interior appeals cos I can do that easily. its the engine drivetrain stuff with the V8 that was hard - nothing is original, and no manual or wiring diagram will help - where's this wire go?? oh sh*t that's a chev/datsun/skyline/commodore part -who do i talk to about this? I loved it but boy its like your best girlfriend ever - REALLY hard work but oh so rewarding when you fire her/it up....!
-
yeah, as I said I'm sorry to see it go, and in hindsight I could have left the V8 in the corner of the garage, not done anything to it, and bought this one with the money I spent on the other - convoluted logic but you get my drift. there's another for $7 -8K in ACT with a L28 turbo and discs all round, good exterior but ropey interior so maybe that's a better bet........ Or, maybe I should sit back and watch the market for a while and you guys make a good point - if it's orginal then everthing is old and will need replacing, so why worry if the sticker in the glovebox is still there? Evan, your seats look pretty good, were they expensive? David

Hi Guys, the V8Z is sold and will be off to sunny Brisbane on Wednesday next week, I'm sorry to see it go and if circumstances were different, it'd still be in the garage. So I'm just cruising the ads to see what's out there and I came across this z at Carsales.com.au. Has anyone been to see it and if so, whats the general impression of it? I had a chat to the seller and it appears he's pretty keen to sell and is negotiable. the a/c doesn't work and it's got 'some rust' in the usual places but offsetting that is the 'originality' of it. any thoughts? cheers, David dunno if this link will take you to the page http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/DATSUN/260Z/details.aspx?Model=260Z&__Nne=20&__N=4294966615+0+4294966410+834+285+257&Make=DATSUN&State=All%20States&silo=1003&state_id=0&distance=25&Cr=1&seot=0&__sid=10F10A44A6AD&R=742382&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32|1||pCar_ImageCount_Int32|1||pCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime|1&trecs=8

thanks for the vote of confidence, Graeme, the car isn't perfect but then when is a car like this ever finished?? I really don't want to sell it especially when you see so few around, but i need to raise $50k for the business (without going to the bank) so the 4WD is gone and this is next, maybe.... interest has been excellent including calls for the NT...... Van, see you on tuesday...... David PS Graeme, how's yours going?
-
Guys, this is just a quick note to say that you will see my car for sale in Carpoint.com. This is not something I want but as my business funds my toys, sometimes the reciprocal has to happen. It may not get to the point of actually selling the car, but right now it's the right thing to do. If it sells, then I'll be in the hunt for a repacement within a couple of months. And Craig, I know it's not cheap at 13k but there's about 8k in the engine alone and i believe over 30k in the orginal rebuild.... time will tell. I'm not even sure you can still build 5.7litre Zedcars anymore, so if that's the case... cheers David

see you there David

What parts would you like offered through the club?

I think the discount on oil and such would be really useful - I wouldn't mind a 20L drum of oil and 4 or 5 filters sitting in my garage. Another thing that would be good would be access to a workshop/hoist where we could do our own work, although insurance might be a problem. Most suppliers would want to see regular sales in quantity in return for a discount, so we'd best be sure we can deliver on our end of the deal. Group buys of selected items might be an avenue to pursue. We all seem to want consoles for example. Tools might be worth considering. just my .02c worth............... -
love the 1st to 2nd gearchange....

A good read on some "abandoned" early Z's in the U

Sulio, thats pretty impressive, I assume that was your 260? I got my 1st one in a straight trade (no cash) with a dealer in Car City. I traded a KA Laser Sport which had a front end clip fitted. He rang me afterwards and said he didn't get the 'cherry' Laser S he thought he'd got. I was happy, I got a 1 owner S30.... -
is this going to be held at Como on the 3rd again? thought i might have a look.. looked at the NDSOC website but it has very little info other than the date.
-
Sulio, yes my car is reliably mobile, at least more than before. still stuff to be done (as all of us have) but 97% there. checked on progress at the auto elec on friday - spagetti everywhere but the promise monday (ish) the n off for roadworthy and vic rego. Chris (my son) wants me to register DATMAN but it's gone - thank god. what rego ideas do you guys have?? saw OH~ENZO on a ferrari which was quite clever.......

http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales/!cs_content.private_vehicle?total_rec=7&search_distance=25&selected_model=10&vehicle_id=3419240&selected_region=0&state_id=-1¤t_rec=2&search_type=20&model_id=457&used_rec=0&make_id=37&category_id=3 no idea if this link will work but it's no biggie to find the car. I was just thinking it's a nice looking car, price is ok, maybe worth a look.... then I though I'd go and see it in Baccus Marsh in my Zed... then i thought what if a bunch of us rock up in Zeds to inspect a car for sale? it'd freak the seller out. could be fun......! just imagine the look on the seller's face if 4 or more zed arrive outside his house at once! AND the combined knowledge and experience when checking it over could be REALLY valuable....... David

so did Jim Carey in Bruce Almighty

thanks guys, I saw a 260 bonnet with surface rust and paint crows feet sell on ebay for about $80 (i think) the vents were in good nick tho. I still might need more openings that the std ones I run my car with the windows down ALL the time, yes the best sound is a V8 idling at the lights - that and a ducati hang on, through a tunnel's not bad either.... but I haven't smelled the exhaust yet. mind you, you can't smell carbon monoxide can you?
-
i think that in getting rid of all the heat thru the firewall, it would be alot better than a hole in the roof. I must be alone, but i think the idea kinda cool. need to get some vents/louvres in the bonnet too......... anybody got a late 260 bonnet for sale?? Nato, the chev is running now, new lumpy cam, lifters, carb, fuel pump etc. currently at the auto elec getting fuel pump safety circuit, tach and wiring clean up done. with the new cam, it's making too much noise so new rear muffler next. David

Has anyone ever adapted the opening rear quarter windows from the 2+2 to fit the coupe? i realise it might be a bit more difficult than just adapting the hinges and the opening mechanism. any ideas? cheers David
