OK my baby still has a whole list of things i need to fix but the main concern at the moment is Ive noticed that when ever i tap the accelerator theres a dounk sound comming from either the diff or control arms i think, also it feels like the the rear axle moves forward then the chassi catches up if that makes any sense.... any ideas on what i should check

Have a look & see how stretched the nylon diff strap is.

Common practice is to replace it with a length of chain with some radiator over over it, pulled down tight ;)

This will stop the 'clunk'.

it must be the Z season for this probelm, check out Nedlohs(Dave) thread for more info. Most likely the mount, however in my case, the Uni joints were a little loose. I had same symtoms as you, loud clunk on Acceleration.

Another thing to look for on the uni's is that rusty red/orange dust on them. means they are running dry with no grease and could be well worn. When I found that on one of my zed's that was giving me a mysterious "clicking" sound when accelerating.

I just bought and CADed this part from Dat2Kman, its designed by Alan Stean (once Z car workshop in Brisbane) to swap out for the factory rubber strap. You can adjust the height of the rubber knobs using the nuts to sit against the diff and the whole thing just bolts in using existing bolts.

Not sure how Alan would feel about me giving the measurements out since technically its his invention, but I'm sure a picture is fine. If you can be bothered emailing him (i'm sure his email is on here or google) and get his permission I'll email you the technical drawings for it. Surely every Z owner is going to find one of these useful.

This was my attempt... Many celica fans/owners may remember the transmission mount from the 72 (pictured) with the transmission side part cut off. A piece of 40 X 5mm plate was bent up and then made to fit Dales parts car but when i went to fit it to the red one it was way out.

This leads me to thinkin that these parts may have to be fabricated for individual cars.

Then i tack weld it under the car it was meant for and Arc Welded it... with some shrinkage... which is easy to adjust.

The celica mount already has two threaded bolt holes in the top for 14mm bolts which provides the adjustment.
