hey guys

Could someone tell me briefly

do all the 260z 2+2 parts fit on a 260z 2seater

i know there is a difference in the body length but i was wondering if interior , doors and everything forward of the windscreen fit

thanks

Almost 100% of the dash/windscreen forward will fit a 260 2 seater; some exceptions with a 240Z. Diff from 2+2, rear arms but not struts, rear tailights but not surrounds will fit into a 2 seater. There are some small details that I can't think of also..

Do the lock mechanisms interchange? I've got a problem where my driver side door lock will fall back down, so I have to hold the lock top up to open the door. I am pretty sure I need to replace the mechanism.

Doors are different, inc innards (regulator, door release linkages etc).

Lock mechanisms can be changed, though i believe there are two different types depending upon the vehicle year, visually very different.

but not struts

That is dependant on the model of 260z 2 seater you are talking about my 260z 2 seater which is after/around 08/76 build ie 77 model by the time is made it to the sales yard does take the 2+2 rear strut I know this as the rear suspension from my 260z is now in a 2+2 and the race suspension for the that 2+2 was in my 260z (the 2+2 was returned to a road car when the guy started racing a Z32 TT so we did a deal on the suspension his koni, lovell, rose jointed section struts for a complete standard setup - worked out fine)

So if the 260z 2 seater is the larger rear strut tower type (easy to id) then all suspension will interchange.

Given that this question tends to come up fairly regularly, perhaps we should instigate a sticky thread with a list of interchangeable parts?  Not just for 240/260/260 2+2, but include 280zx, r31, 240k etc?

$15 bucks for a replacement. Let me know if you are interested.

Mike, I thought the casting at the bottom of the strut where the wheel bearings/axle for a 2+2 was a bit longer because the rear of a 2+2 is a tad wider, they made the casting "poke" out more so having a longer axle? Did a comparison years ago but could be wrong...

That is true, but I'm not sure if the 2 seater and 2+2 axles are different...anyone know for sure? It's got me thinking now...may not be able to sleep tonight.

I know the 2+2 rear struts have a stronger stub axel. I dont know how it is stronger though ???

The stub axles have a slightly larger cross-sectional diameter and 27 splines compared to the 25 splines on the 240Z.

Well I thought I would look up my factory Nissan parts catalogue to confirm. And from 09/74 there are 2 struts listed, Europe spec and non Europe spec but nothing that states 2 seater or 2+2. However there is 2 seater and 2+2 listed separately for 08/73 to 08/74 (2 seater) and 10/74 to 08/74.

And checking the stub axles there is only one partnumber from 08/73 (ie 260z stubs) so all 260z be it 2 seaters or 2+2 have the same stub axles (well there is 2 partnumber but one is just a replacement for the other ie new supplier or something slightly different) however it states these are for the 2 seater and 2+2.

The 2+2 is wider but the rear suspension geo is the same - have you noticed you can fit a wider rim on the back of the 2+2 vs the 2 seaters :) this is due to the extra width in the body and the suspension in the same location as the 2 seaters = 0.5" more room in the inner guards

Yes the stub axles are stronger and also the casting of the lower bearing holder is larger too. I need to get some pics to show the differences but the bearing holder bit is no londer were the axles fits. It is however larger were the strut tube is welded to it.

1. Of the reason for this is that the casting needed to change for the larger tubes the 260z's run.

2. I assume while Nissan was at the re-casting stage they decided to add more metal/meat to this area were the strut tube joins the cast piece.

I would guess (from memory) this area is about 15mm taller vs a 240z strut casting.

Also did you know the rear arms as slightly different. Both appear to be made from the same gauge steel just on the 260z arm Nissan took/added some extra re-enforcement at the inner end - again a pic would help.

All these parts are interchangeable into a 240z, if you section the rear struts and install a different insert a 260z strut will go into a 240z. I now have 240z struts in my late 260z with coil overs as this was what I could get my hands on at the time as I did not want to cut up my other 260z suspension (the already sectioned koni/lovell setup as I might sell these later....just keeping my options open currently)

I will get some pics of the differents in the rear casting and post up before the weekend.
