C.A.R. Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Too easy mate, but I'll let everyone else have a guess first Quote

Mr240z Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Yer lurch you actually owned one of them Ash It's not one of them blow up dolls is it.. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 24, 2009 Moderators Posted April 24, 2009 Top one is L28 and bottom is RB? you were right...so close but ends have some differences.. Quote
Zeddophile Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Looks by eye like the top one has longer stroke than the bottom one, and going off the larger flywheel boss and massive nose of it where the balancer bolts on, I'd say the top one is an LD28 crank, against one of the L6 series petrol crankshafts? The bigger thrust bearing journal in the centre and the chunkier counterweights also suggest diesel crank to me.... Quote
zr240 Posted April 24, 2009 Author Posted April 24, 2009 Ha Dimitri is right The top is a l28 and bottom is rb25 I acctually put the l28 crank into the rb block (just for somthing to do) and it fitted! and gave me much bigger stroke Not much has changes since the l series was built hey. Anyway not sure if it has any real use but just though it was interesting. Ash Quote
Zeddophile Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I noticed you changed your post Lurch (snicker) Not often we catch Lurch being wrong Not that I went much better! Quote
zzzzed Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 what would be rely cool is if we could put an rb head on an l28 bottom end. Then how easy wold it be to do the rb conversion Quote
NZeder Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 FYI. The RB head will bolt on top of the L6 block - they have the same bore spacing (and hence the crank fits) and head bolt locations - however oil and water galleries are out. If you play around enough you find other parts that fit But a little hit with a little work you can make a crank curdle for the L28 from RB parts I have been told this can be done and I will be trying this out with a mate later this year Quote
zr240 Posted April 24, 2009 Author Posted April 24, 2009 I was wondering about the crank curdle (brearing brace thingy) Might have to give it a shot. Jane they are actually the same length (think it may be the angle of the camera) Yer would be nice to bolt th rb head to the l block but it is alot of mucking around. You would have to also do somthing about the belt/ chain issue! Ash Quote
NZeder Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 And by the time you do the mucking around just put a RB block in and be done with it - now if only the S20 engines were easier to come by or the OS Giken TC24-B1 head - this is why some of us have gone RB for the DOHC look. However if I did not want the DOHC look in NA form then I would have stuck with L6 as even though they are only a 2 valve head with the correct setup good power gains can be made. Nissan did a great job on the L series engines, strong reliable and excellent power can be extracted. Quote
