Hi Guys,

I'm after a set of used 260z seater (to fit a 74) original shocks. I beleiev they can be rebuilt with heavier oil!?

Can anyone confirm this to be the case with standard KYB's? I did'nt think these can be re-oiled????

Thanks

Sulio

I don't know about anyone in Melbourne, but I use a company in Brisbane called WW Shock Absorbers, and they have rebuilt a number of shocks for me. I haven't had any Z ones done, but I think they can rebuild just about anything. I have the same idea - although not so much heavier oil but putting an additional seal inside i.e less compression, to make the ride firmer. I don't know the way they do it so this was only my idea but I am looking for a solution to make my '60 Buick handle better than the typical American "boat".

Give Craig at WW a call - he might be able to recommend someone in Melbourne, or alternately, send them up to him. His number is 07 3265 2133. Tell him Craig with the Tatra recommended him !

Sulio, I think I have a pair of fronts here and should be able to get you some rears within about a week or so. With the original ones, you can modify the valving or just use thicker hydraulic oil in them. The workshop manual tells you how much oil and how to bleed them during assembly.

Sul, I re-oiled the origanal inserts in the Bus - I used ATF & it worked a treat!

240 inserts are the same IIRC

Aftermarket inserts like KYB's & Tokios (sp) can't be re-oiled (Unless you do something dodgy...).

Aren't KYB's gas shocks? I bought some a loooong time ago and I just thought they were cheap gas shocks that can't be disassembled.

You might be right Dimitri. ???

240 & early 260 used the same, if not very similar damper insert.

260 2+2 & late 260/280Z rear inserts are longer & the glad nut is a different because of the larger strut tube, IIRC...

Sulio,

I have a pair of front 240 strut inserts if you want them,

(or anyone else if Sulio doesn't want them)

cheers

Hi Guys,

Thanks all for the feedback fellas. Bruce thank you for the offer, I think I'll just pick them both up from Dimitri rather than going to two places. Bruce do you mind holding to the fronts you have just in case there is an issue with the set i get from Dimitri. Thanks Bruce, Dimitri!

Lurch, yes I've heard this from quite a few people running just heavier oild nad getting good results. I figure I'll set em up with coilovers to reduce the initial cost and later get adjsuta ble inserts like Aluminas when cash allows.

I've got a 74 260z with the shorter rear stutt towers so shocks should be the same front and back. I want to stiffen the rears to keep the tyres from rubbing.

Just to put it out there I will have a set of heavy duty lowered King Springs for sale, the ones o the car atm. They sit the car at a really nice height. I've noticed some of the "lowered" Springs people buy don't really lower the car much but mine have been really good. So send me a PM if you want me to put them away for you, cost $100 for the 4. Ride is firm but comfortable.
