sco_aus Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Hey guys. Well myself and the missus broke up on Thursday night and its looking like the zed wont be ready in time for Thredbo (same thing happened last Feb for Tassie..) I have been contemplating over the last 2 months on whether to sell up both the Z and the Landcruiser and just get a daily as nothing seems to go right for me on either of these. I just need some inspiration to keep going and just finish it. It needs: *Bigger brake MC, easy. *Roll cage, its too feckin fast not to but too bloody expensive. *Full dyno tune, only has a road tune from the dude who installed the Autronic. *Lots of fine detail things, like I want to use the Alumniclad stuff I have to make a bit of diffuser type stuff and shrouding for the intercooler. *Have something made up to marry the rear left sway bar with the control arm, i have no fecking idea how it was originally mounted and I dont remember taking it off.. *Tighten bolts, I think it wise to go back over the car once all the above and whatever else needs doing and re tighten most of the cars bolts with some loktight. It just seems so far away and my original idea of racing it is financially not an option any more and it doesnt even seem worthwhile to have spent so much and only race it once a year, so maybe it should go to someone who could use it?? cheers Scott Quote
Zeddophile Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 *Roll cage, its too feckin fast not to but too bloody expensive. Its a pity you aren't in Melbourne, else I could put you onto a guy who would do a welded in 8 point cage for about 2500-3000. And the workmanship is superb. *Tighten bolts, I think it wise to go back over the car once all the above and whatever else needs doing and re tighten most of the cars bolts with some loktight. Definitely a good idea. It just seems so far away and my original idea of racing it is financially not an option any more and it doesnt even seem worthwhile to have spent so much and only race it once a year, so maybe it should go to someone who could use it?? Maybe you should take a step back, and a break from working on it for a couple of weeks, and you'll find the motivation will come back - you'll go out, tinker with something easy, then next thing you know you've fixed a whole bunch of little things which, although not serious items, make you feel much better about the car. As long as you enjoy driving it, what does it matter if you only race it once a year? Quote
sco_aus Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 I havn't been able to drive the car, which has been my problem. Unfortunately $3k for the roll cage is just way out of my price range. I think i'll sit on the car for 6 months to a year and save some money for a while. I might find some more motivation later on or something. I agree though, doing small things on the car do help to motivate, but there are too many things to be done that I have to pay to be done like the brakes etc. I dunno Quote
oldmates260z Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Obviously your head is not in the right spot at the moment to make any major decisions. Take a step back for a while and spend time with things that do not give you stress. Maybe its all too much now and that is why you have the issue with the missus. Just remember the harder things are to get, the more you appreciate and enjoy them in the end Quote
Cdr Zero Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Sorry about you and your missus. I would leave it for a while, like the others have said and have a think later when you have a clearer head. In my opinion you would miss the car later on if you sold it. It's something unique and special that's yours. Quote
chris240 Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 There are 100's of thousands of potential girlfriends still out there...yet only 98 1977 2-seater 260's ever made.. forget racing for the moment. Turn it into a streeter...you dont need the rollcage now. Have a good talk to Simon next week, hes a brilliant "part-time" welder. yeah Im with George, have a e-hug Quote
C.A.R. Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 WTF?! I leave the forum for a few hours & this shit happens! Pick up your damn phone!!! Quote
zr240 Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Yer I know how it goes Im rethinking the race thing myself (no prob with the missus though) Luckly I have two cars and one is going to be a street/racer and one is the full racecar. I am actually going to go race karts for about 12mths and mothball the rb25det racecar, I will hopfully have my street/racer ready in a few months so I have somthing to cruse in and do the od club event. I think its best not to do anything sudden as cars are not selling all that well at the moment and you will only regret it. Also I think there is nothing better to get your mind of a brakeup than getting stuck into finishing the zed. Ash Quote
lightmaster240z Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Sorry to her about you and the Missus. :'( I find this is not the time to make any discision. Best review your life and pick yourself up dust your self down and move on. Happeness is aways not far away. good luck. regards bruce Quote
sco_aus Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 lol, thanks guys. I re read my original post, it seems so dire. It wasn't intended to be, but I can see how it came across. Once again, thanks for the input, it is helping to make me see I should hang on to it. Like I said, I have thought about this for about 2 months so it hasn't just come up, just seems like if I dont get myself into debt to finish it, im not going to have it done in time before getting a mortgage etc and i have to pull my finger out and start doing this shit while im in a good position. Cheers Scott Quote
Scando Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Don't sell it when you're so close to being finished. I got my cage from Bond cages in Sydney. You get all the bars already bent for just under $1K. All you need to do then is find somebody that will cut them to size and weld them in for you cheap. Quote
sco_aus Posted February 15, 2009 Author Posted February 15, 2009 That sounds pretty good. I want to make it CAMS approved so yeh it would need to be the correct thickness and would still need it to be done to the right measurements and all that crap. I dunno, probly be the last thing to do. Quote
Scando Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Was that in 3140 molly, Shane? I wish! I think they do chrome molly cages if you have that sort of cash but that's well out of my price range It's just a steel cage but the bars they provide are all to the correct diameters and thickness for CAMS approval. sco_aus Posted February 15, 2009 Author Posted February 15, 2009 Very cool, will have to look into it. Quote
